Clarkson blames blazes on God being embarrassed of Australia, 'stupid creatures'

"He created it as a continent far, far away where he could house all his experiments that had gone wrong," Clarkson wrote in a column for British tabloid The Sun.

Basically, only the wilderness is burning...the cities and their basins, sprawling suburbs, are all just fine.

And you believe Clarkson. Got it.

And no, it is not "only the wilderness." Plus people in cities are having a hard time breathing, too.

But why would you care?

OK, 'mostly in the wilderness/remote bushland'. Cities and their suburbs are not burning.
Most of the million acres burnt are not in towns. They're out in the mountains.

"Only" destroyed 1,400 houses, so far. Wilderness. "Entire towns have been engulfed in flames," including outer suburbs. Sydney's atmosphere was 11 times the "hazardous" level for particulate in the air. Canberra was over 20 times.

New South Wales government's director of environmental health called the haze "unprecedented," Reuters reported.

"This smoky period we've been experiencing for the past month or so, it is unprecedented, so these conditions are a risk to people's health," Richard Broome said, according to Reuters.

Many locals are experiencing sore eyes, nose and throat irritations, he added, but those with pre-existing conditions, as well as young children and the elderly, "were at particular risk," Broome added.

Your cavalier and callous attitude toward the suffering of your fellow Australians is duly noted, asshole.

Wall Street poops itself whenever oil prices change a couple points.  Yet,  somehow, to certain minds it's unpatriotic to talk about alternative energy sources that would give independence from the vagaries of the global market.
No one does more  research on alternative fuels than energy companies.

In 2018, the top 24 big oil companies spent $3.38 billion on low carbon energy, their most yet. 70% of that was spent by the European oil majors.

The US has averaged more than that annually for the last decade. China, most years, outspends the US 3-1 in this domain.

So, no, unless you are engaged in your usual sophistry of saying you mean that nobody spends more than the alternative energy companies.
Or you can’t read.

Cannot believe some are complaining about the death of a terrorist leader who caused so many to die. Oh no, Iran declares war on the US, Israel, and the Saudis. Too bad they did not have killer drone technology in the 1930's.

The complaints are about multiple things, Luee.

One of them you seem to have grasped, then dismissed for no apparent reason: If this assassination leads to war, who will have caused those deaths?

Another is rule of law: we have established processes for how such things are to be handled. Trump chose to ignore the law. You seem to be fine with that.

A third is Trump's lack of circumspection: he apparently told random Mar-a-Lago guests that something big was up with Iran. No problem for you, huh?

And a fourth is the lies he has been telling about why he ordered the strike now. Again, okay to Luee?

12,350,000 acres have been burnt.

The city of Brisbane in QLD has not been destroyed, business as usual.
The city of Sydney NSW has not been destroyed, business as usual.
The city of Melbourne VIC has not been destroyed, business as usual.
The city of Hobart TAS has not been destroyed, business as usual.
The city of Adelaide SA has not been destroyed, business as usual.
The city of Perth WA has not been destroyed, business as usual.
The nation's capital Canberra ACT has not been destroyed, business as usual.

Most of the land that's been burnt is in rural/coast areas on the edges of bush/scrub/woods/wilderness/remote forests/mountains [call it whatever you like]...and in such bush/scrub/woods/wilderness/remote forests/mountains itself.
Very small towns/villages have been impacted.
Most of the people who've died were killed while "staying to defend their homes".
Most of the homes that have been destroyed were in the bush or on the edges of it, including in coastal hamlets/villages/very small towns.
Australia is not a uninhabitable moonscape.

Three fires spanning two states are threatening to merge into a terrifying 'mega-blaze' as authorities repeatedly urge locals to flee - but many are defying the orders.
In the early hours of Monday morning nothing but a river - about 10kms of space - stood between Victoria's Corryong blaze and the two fires burning out of control at NSW's Kosciuszko National Park.

Tallangatta incident controller Leith McKenzie said on Sunday more than half the people living in nearby alpine areas had ignored dire warnings fire crews won't be able to reach them if disaster strikes.
'For anybody in that area, it is getting up to the stage where it could be really serious for them. We will not put our people at risk to go into these areas to protect assets,' Mr McKenzie said.

The nation's capital Canberra ACT has not been destroyed, business as usual.

CNN reports all flights cancelled in Canberra,  due to bushfire conditions.

Given the number of bushfires in the southeast of Australia, where most of your nation's population live,  I would think the dense smoke in the air is affecting many and not just in sparsely populated rural areas.

It certainly is...affecting everyone, including me.
Worse some days than others, depending on the wind, but it's always there to some degree. It's turning the snow brown in New Zealand.

The fire in the 'Snowy Mountains', which started recently is suspected of being arson, the new police strike force is investigating.
Canberra is out near the Snowy mountains, a city cut out of the wilderness/mountains. It's not a sweet place by the sea like Washington DC.

Yeah, yeah.
