Trump beats Obama! Congrats, huh?

I take it the Obama gang is no longer claiming credit for the economy?

I take it the Trump gang is no longer claiming credit for the stock market.

—-

Two arguments can be made:

One, that this shows the foolhardiness of taking the position “I know this President is so bad in so many areas and is making life worse for so many Americans but I support him because Economy.”  When not actively enacting policies to pull the country out of recession (or enacting policies that hurt, like, say, starting a trade war) a President’s ability to control economic conditions is limited by externalities.

Or, you could also argue that had the US had a competent leader in place able to direct a competent response to this epidemic, then we would not be looking at a possibility of it spreading out of control here and the economic blow-back would be far smaller.

Either way, as I said this morning, supporting Trump because of some belief that he was good for the economy was stupid as shit.
Actually,he has been good for the economy.

Poor delusional Ward.

The possibility of viral encephalitis is another reason to respect CV as more than "just another flu."  Here is a Canadian's take on CV and the benefits of universal healthcare....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/10/how-could-us-better-handle-coronavirus-follow-canadas-example/

Quote
We Canadians have been watching the United States closely to see how the country, the only developed nation without universal health care, manages the crisis. Canadians are used to public health care. For us, it’s normal in an emergency to not have to consider costs before you decide to go to a hospital. The emerging coronavirus crisis is a good reminder of why we have the system we have.

Thanks to Canada’s health-care system, Canadians can be seen and tested for free: There is no cost barrier that would stop someone from entering an emergency room if they were worried they might be sick with the coronavirus, or covid-19.

There are also no costs if the patient has covid-19 and needs to access medical tests, X-rays or ventilators, or receive medication in the hospital. There are no costs if they must see multiple doctors or are hospitalized for several days. The upfront barriers that stop millions of Americans from seeking medical aid are simply not part of the equation...

I think the nom is Squinty McGaffe's if he can keep his speeches short and soothe the disgruntled Bernie Bros to where they might show up at the polls in November.  IOW, the Millennial apathy of 2016 can't repeat in 2020.  Purity positions are fine when you're fixing dinner ("I will not eat any gluten or animal protein!") but not so much when you're ending a proto-fascist regime.  And sparking Millennials will be as important at the congress level (and farther down-ballot, too) as the potus contest.  If the proto-fascist somehow holds onto the presidency, we will need a solid blue congress, both houses, to keep things in check.

This is a combination of how this administration, under Trump's command, is failing to protect people from COVID-19 and the inhumanity and cruelty that they specialize.

This is the kind of shit I keep trying to explain to you, Luee, as well as the hopeless ones of Kid and Ward:

Pence has gotten the OK from insurance companies to cover copays.

Meanwhile, large gatherings in many places are being shut down.

Ivy league has cancelled all out of season athletic competition - such as spring varsity  soccer exhibitions - and also had crowned their basketball champs so that they can forego the conference tournaments

Harvard has ALL STUDENTS LEAVING CAMPUS by March 15th.

The Trump Administration backed down on the order to immigration judges to remove the CDC coronavirus posters.

Hey, a step in the right direction!

This is excellent - and yes, does criticize US preparedness:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/10/opinions/osterholm-coronavirus-interview-bergen/index.html

I do have concern about that some people are highly reliant right now on the use of face mask (i.e. surgical mask) protection and think that's going to reduce transmission. It is not. We are urging that all N95s respirators be used by health care workers or critical infrastructure workers only, not for the general public.

This dude sounds like a national treasure

Any kind of face mask will offer protection.  Good face masks will offer much better protection.

I worry that too many health care pros rely too much on face masks and don't consider protecting their eyes.

If you work in the service industry, at a restaurant or store where you serve lots of customers and come on close contact, a mask is a good idea.  Also in crowds.  On airplanes.

US should have used that 4-6 window when the disease was largely contained to China but spreading throughout the PRC to get masks distributed to hospitals and clinics and to ramp up mask production.
Seems there was a lot of dawdling and denial.
