One anti-viral combo therapy didn't pan out for SARS Covid-2:

A pill containing two HIV drugs that was touted as a potential treatment for the novel coronavirus was not effective, according to a study released late on Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

A test in Chinese patients with severe COVID-19 disease found the 99 who received AbbVie Inc's Kaletra, a combination of lopinavir and ritonavir, fared no better than the 100 who received standard care.

Never understand why the Dems allow the GOP to run down the gov't so much.  They claim they love the Constitution, but not the federal government it set up.  Just what do they think the Constitution was constituting? 

Sometimes a mini-civics lesson is in order, to explain that the US Gov't is the embodiment of the American people and serves to protect their health, safety and welfare.  That the gov't provides all sorts of essential services (including funneling money from wealthier coastal states to poorer more backwards rural states) that help people live longer, healthier, more productive lives.

And the party that believes gov't is the problem shouldn't be allowed to run the gov't because they will naturally fuck it up by removing oversight and regulation and slashing necessary budgets.

Tell that to the WHITE people who keep putting these assholes back in power after every major fuck up in the last hundred years.

The Law and order, anti welfare queens, defending the sanctity of marriage while defending the unborn voters say, “hey! take another shot st killing my ass!”

A Republican congressman from Alaska reportedly appeared to downplay the coronavirus pandemic to a group of senior citizens last week, saying it's a problem caused by media "hysteria" and that its deadliness has been "blown out of proportion."

"They call it the coronavirus. I call it the beer virus. How do you like that?" Rep. Don Young said during a luncheon at Mat-Su Senior Services on Friday, reported the Anchorage Daily News, which obtained audio of the event. He was apparently referring to the Corona beer brand.

"It attacks us senior citizens. I'm one of you. I still say we have to, as a nation and state, go forth with everyday activities," Young, 86, said, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

"Again, guys, this is blown out of proportion about how deadly this is. It's deadly, but it's not nearly as deadly as the other viruses we have," Young said Friday, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

And this week, his staff is spinning like crazy:

"It was my understanding that the Congressman was trying to urge calm, stressing his confidence that we will weather this storm," Young's campaign manager, Truman Reed, told the Anchorage Daily News.

Reed added, "This pandemic's impact is very real, growing and causing all of us — our governments, businesses, health care professionals and as individuals — to have evolving views and protocols to face its challenges," the Anchorage Daily News reported.

But the Congressman himself is not done:

"We have to be aware of that because even the President's proposal sounds good, $50 billion, $50 billion we don't have. We're gonna borrow that money from the future generations," he said, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

"We (would) solve a problem right now that's been created primarily by hysteria," he added, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Young argued that "whether you realize it or not, we are at war now. But mostly because of the presentations by the mass media," the newspaper noted.

Blame the GOP.

Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar unexpectedly praised President Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday night, saying it was "incredible and the right response in this critical time."

Omar, normally a staunch critic of the White House who herself has repeatedly drawn the president's ire, went on to quote Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., as saying "unprecedented times require unprecedented leadership" -- and, Omar added, "we are seeing that in our country right now."

"Finally, we should never let politics get in the way of good policy," Omar concluded. "This is a great start and hope others will be part of a united front to push for good policies that will help us work through the economic anxiety the country is feeling right now."
