  But before an anti-malarial with strong side effects is widely administered,  it needs to be clinically tested.   

Chloraquine has been used widely for decades.
It doesn't have strong side effects.  For short term usage such as malaria treatment and a viral flu, side effects are of limited to no concern.  Though there could be some if the dosage needs to be significantly increased.

Let me answer this clearly,  so I don't get trolled later by El Sanctimonio.  Yes,  it's well tested insofar as malaria,  lupus,  and RA are concerned.  All I really meant was that some testing phase is needed insofar as its interaction with a novel virus,  and also cocktail interaction if it's blended with Zithromax to treat said virus.   I am not pessimistic about this at all,  but only want people to understand that hype is not useful until more data is gleaned.   

And I hope people stay focused on things we know boost the immune system like zinc,  selenium, ginger,  turmeric,  red bell peppers,  and exercise.

My favorite miracle drug is prednisone, a corticosteroid that does wonders.  I first heard of it on relation to cancer patients.  I was given it when I had a severe food allergy.  It's also very good for arthritis, and used to treat lupus, ms, leukemia and more.  Problem is its very powerful and has a long list of horrible side effects, so can only be prescribed short term.  But as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant it's truly amazing.

From some very quick research:

Prednisone is also sometimes used with antibiotics to treat a certain type of pneumonia in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

I was going to suggest prednisone should be tried with the corona virus and its complications.  They should look into it.

A couple of thoughts on available goods from over the counter...

When I was a kid and when I would get a chest cold, my Mother would rub Vick's VapoRub on my chest when she put me to bed, and it seemed to help. And she would put a little bit under my nose.

And then there is Nyquil, it helps me when I get sick, I take it before bed and it helps me to sleep.
