Bo - maybe you can update us on the wisdom of testing "not so sick" people now .  I would think the system as is shouldn't be inundated with millions of tests (is there enough manpower for this) - but that's just me.

As more testing is approved and becomes easier - where a more immediate result can be seen at a doctor's office (even then I can imagine mad rushes, complaints, etc) - maybe we get closer to what you - citizen Bo living abroad - want.

Serology testing is interesting.  We can in time see who has developed an immunity.  Of course the test you can take at a doctor's office - and possibly get same morning/day results - is also a prominent goal.

As far as I can tell, every serious health professional in the US and abroad says that more testing is the key.  The sooner you identify people who have the virus, the sooner you can get them into isolation and disrupt the transmission chain.

Anyone who has been in contact with someone who has tested positive should be tested as soon as possible.  Results should be available quickly as well.  Time is essential to get this under control as soon as possible and have things return to normal.

A lot of testing in conjunction with lockdowns, social distancing and face masks has proven effective.

I just dont think this jibes with testing everyone who wants a test - or everyone with a cough - immediately.

Test everyone who came in contact with someone who tested positive.  Test everyone with any symptoms.  This should/would be happening if there weren't a shortage of test materials.

You simply don't want people who might be positive and might be contagious walking around interacting with others.  Would be helpful if everyone wore masks as well.

Unfortunately the US response has been slow and poor.   An assortment of shortages in the richest country on earth.
