Knowing the probabilities of mortality and/or serious complications can inform treatment, including providing experimental drugs or deciding who should get scarce resources such as ventilators.

More information is almost always a good thing.

CDC info has been spotty throughout the crisis, including their map that for a time just had Yes or No for each state, then switched to a range, instead of an exact figure for the number of known cases in each state.

I was in San Marino last year.  They rely heavily on tourism, so everyone is friendly and helpful.  The parliament building was closed when we got there, but the guard opened the door and let us take a step into the Lobby to have a quick look.  The theater was closed too, but the manager stuck his head out to check on the rain before leaving, saw us outside and offered to let us come in.  He turned on the lights so we could see the interior, talked to us a bit, and then even gave us an umbrella to fight the rain.  Apparently, San Marino umbrellas travel around the country pretty freely.

One night we had dinner at a terrific restaurant in a tucked-in part of the hilltop city.  We asked our waiter if he could call us a taxi.  He said he'd drive us back to our hotel.  Told his manager, took off his apron and zoomed us back.

Heavy fog and intermittent rain during our 2 1/2 days there, so we only stayed up on the hill in the City of San Marino, and didn't get to check out the surrounding low-lying part of the country.  The country only has a population of 33K.

San Marino sounds cool.

There seems to be a consensus forming around the very stable genius

"We should all be following developments in hydroxychloroquine use with interest and measured hope. Why wouldn't we be? Well, here's why: Donald Trump is for it," Carlson said. "Several days ago, the president expressed confidence in hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the epidemic. That was it for the media. If Trump is for it, they're against it, even if it might save American lives."

Bull shit.  You and Faux News see everything through the lens of your slavish reflexive worship of.Trump so you assume people who disagree with Trump are doing so through the opposite lens. They are not. Trump's comments on new medication are harmful to people the same way his Easter comment is. Large numbers of people have been convinced by him to ignore the media and take him seriously as a news source. Not just people who drink fish tank cleaner. People who thought in February that this was the flu and did not take precautions. People who should be self isolating. People who have ignored medical professional advice. People who are going to want to avoid the hardness of the necessary steps to stop the spread of disease.

Useful how?

By allowing better medical care and advice.

By better preparing our medical teams for what they will be needing more of.

By informing public service announcements.

I dont think male/female breakdown does any of that
You could have stopped after your first three words. It does all those things just as knowing how risk factors like diabetes impacts the disease.

Senate bill passes.
Now Nancy gets a chance to fuck the poor.

Sorry, was it Nancy or Senate Republicans that were holding up the stimulus bill because it was too generous to unemployed low-wage workers?

---

A few points.

1) Stimulus is absolutely the right thing to do right now, and the $2 Trillion may actually be short of what is needed. (Outside of any debate about whether or not this particular bill has the correct amount of oversight of how some of those treasury funds are spent)

2) We should all be able to agree that if the President was a Democrat this bill would never have happened, and REDSTATEWARD would be roaring with laughter at Administration claims (Trumps Administration making them now, mind you) that the $2 Trillion is actually worth $4 Trillion to the economy via multipliers (a word the GOP pretended they didn't understand or believe in under Obama)

3) Should a Democrat be elected President in November, Republicans will drag the nation into a debate about the resulting deficit, even though they have ignored it as an issue under Trump, and will put a stop to this spending even if the economy is still recovering.

So tell us again how Nancy wants to "fuck the poor."

Asshole.

Any guesses what the WSJ editorial board would be saying (and REDSTATEWARD would be parroting) if it was a Democratic Administration handing out $1200 + checks to Americans set to arrive 4 months before an election?

Not like we've ever heard them make the argument that Democratic policy tries to "buy votes" from poor and minority communities, right?

Right?

So we know Republicans were selling off stock after private briefings on the Coronavirus while telling Americans don't worry, buy stock.

Now we find Administration officials were desperately getting tested while telling Americans it is a hoax.

These assholes and REDSTATEWARD deserve each other.

Deal was agreed to.  Rug was pulled out - not by Senate Republicans, smart guy -

and thus - a delay.  Now - hopefully solved.  We will see with tomorrow's vote.

I dont care what is in the bill. I dont care that 25 mil goes to Kennedy Center funding.  I dont even care about the delay. Just people of differnt strokes doing theirjob as they feel is appropriate in their world.

The delay?  The "meanwhile, people are dying" folks need to fumegate themselves.  The "shortage" of ventillators, for instance, in NY - is not killing anyone today.  It's the MODEL (of future patients) that has everyone's hair on fire.  It's important of course to have that model - but acquisition of vents just has to be made over time, not tomorrow.

The cash payments to citizens?  Again - be thankful- don't go out of your way to roast the government for not getting the cash sooner.

We are a GREAT nation, doing GREAT things.  Those that die - it will be quite sad - but it will be from the VIRUS - not any lack of anything, not by the absence of staff in China last fall.  Those that almost die - and survive - should be thankful of the millions that helped- through various means (including simple prayer) - in the most trying of times.

It will be saddest to have to revisit all this in September-November as politicians rehash in order to sway voters.

Facts: Lindsey Graham, Ben Sasse, Tim Scott, and Rick Scott.  Those are the names of Senators that delayed the bill because they thought the unemployment benefits were too generous.  Those men are Senate Republicans.

But kiidcarter8 isn't here to debate with facts.
