I am not comforted, though it's nice to see that "Deb" is. (And I hate listening to the misogynistic pig call her that.)

After reading you the last few weeks we can't judge anything by your negativity - sorry.  It's just neverending.

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin
Give the audience a grin
Enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow

So, always look on the bright side of death
A-just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

"Peter!"
...
"Peter!"

Hearing his master's voice, Peter scrambled from where he had been hiding to the top of the hill where he found Jesus, on the cross, calling to him. He made himself known.

"Peter!"

"Yes, my lord?"

"Peter, I can see your house from here!"

This is what I am hoping we can avoid - not just the numbers, though those are bad enough, but the kind of abrupt death that September 2018 brought.

It’s unavoidable as long as bog standard morons like Red and Kid stand by the personal crimes against humanity they’ve committed by supporting the imposter and his failing programs.

This motherfucker is trying to get us killed! Part 2

"Why. Isnt. Trump. Ordering. Companies. To. Make. The. Fucking. Ventilators?"
Quote

Conservative acquaintances, following the president himself, told us that the companies were doing it all on their own. Somehow, apparently, they would make the ventilators needed in a miraculously short period of time without the shoring up of start-up capital from the government. All the states and cities would get what they need through supply chains from various companies that weren't centralized. The bidding wars between states are just the free market at work and the Invisible Hand will provide the miracle of the perfect amount of ventilators needed.

But actually, the president has now made clear it's not going to be as much of a miracle as that answer made it sound like initially. Actually, he said, you don't need 30,000 ventilators. You need far less. After all, he noted as his proof, major hospitals sometimes don''t have more than two ventilators.

Governor Cuomo, according to the president, is just plain wrong about how many ventilators we're going to need. The president has determined we're not going to need that many. So the companies will just produce the amount that Trump believes we need, which isn't as much as anybody who knows anything thinks we need. So it makes sense that righties think the companies will get it done themselves and that Trump didn't need to order them to do any of this two months ago. After all, according to conservatives, the companies will get the needed amount of ventilators to the right places all on their own.

Kid has realized that he can no longer say that the pimp who turned him out, donald “bone spurs” trump, hasn’t driven the car off the cliff. Now he’s testing the idea that the car is about to grow wings, so no harm no foul.

You’re such a precious poodle Kid, bust still as always no one wants your shit.

Very cool for her. And I would guess that she is neither harbinger nor outlier. This is the key sentence, to me:

The just-released French study reported that 70 percent of hydroxychloroquine-treated patients, or 14 of 20, were negative for the virus at day 6, as were all six patients who were treated with hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin (which Novins also received).

She was being treated for pneumonia. The Z-pack kills pneumonia, depending very much on the type of pneumonia at issue. We don't know what type because the article doesn't share that data.

If it was viral pneumonia, then the Z-pack should not have done anything about it. If it was bacterial, then most of the time the Z-pack would kill it in 3-7 days.

Curious, yes. Not knowing.

And also if that hospital is doing that consistently, where are the other stories from them?

So... the 36 person study (20 getting meds, 16 getting placebos) results were promising, but they did not include any serious cases and neither will the next studies from those folks. Further, their next study is being delayed, as is Eli Lilly's study. Troubling - not because of anything wrong with the meds, but because of the impact the delay will have on beating back the pandemic if the meds are effective.

Herein lies the crux of the problem:

President Trump does not understand or accept science. It is the same problem we had when he wanted us to just use flu vaccines, since we didn't have one for this virus. Or when he thought perhaps we could nuke a hurricane.

He's not unique in having these ideas and he is not unique in thinking he understands things better than the experts - but because he is the President of the United States, his belief that he knows better than the experts is a major problem.

Yesterday, that manifested in his decided that NY and Governor Cuomo are lying or wrong or something when they say they need so many ventilators.
https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/489789-trump-questions-need-for-30000-ventilators-in-new-york?jwsource=cl

Quote
The president phoned into Sean Hannity's show on Fox News, where he swiped at the governors of Michigan and Washington state and cast doubt on the need for mass ventilator production to meet the demand of certain states.

"I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they’re going to be," Trump said on "Hannity."

"I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you go into major hospitals, sometimes they’ll have two ventilators. And now all of a sudden they're saying, 'can we order 30,000 ventilators?'"

"Look, it’s a bad situation," he added. "We haven’t seen anything like it. But the end result is we have to get back to work and I think we can start by opening up certain parts of the country."

The president compared purchasing a ventilator to purchasing a car, calling the machines "very expensive" and "very intricate."

"And you know they’d say, like Gov. Cuomo and others, they’d say we want 30,000 of them. Thirty thousand?" Trump said. "Think of this, you know you go to hospitals that have one in a hospital and now all of a sudden everyone’s asking for these vast numbers."

The numbers of people needing ventillators is far higher than usual. (And it is not like they are asking for 30,000 in that hospital that had one, anyway!)  FAR higher.

The length of time that a COVID-19 patient will need a ventillator is up to 11 days versus the 3 or maybe 4 days for a regular flu patient. That means that while one ventillator might have served 3 flu patients, it won't do it for COVID-19.
-----------

And if he has his way and the restrictions are pulled back, what is already looking like an overwhelmed medical system will drown in patients.

(Kid, this is not my negativity - this is the medical community's consensus. That is, among the virologists, the infectious disease specialists, and the epidemiologists, it is there consensus. The thoracic surgeons, the OB/Gyns, and the dermatologists may disagree with them, but their opinions are worth a small container of warm piss.)

NETEC was the National Ebola Training and Education Center. They have changed their name to the National Emerging Special Pathogen Training and Education Center, to serve beyond Ebola. The slide below is from their presentation about a month ago.

One emergency solution is to use one ventilator for multiple patients at the same time.  I don't know the logistics and dangers of that.  But NY Presbyterian Hospital got a waiver to be allowed to do so.  And has started trial operations.  Another hospital was testing out a system to allow one ventilator to supply 4 patients with mechanical breathing.

In emergencies, and shortages, one has to get creative.

I still think an important question is:
Why have more Americans been infected than Chinese?

And the followup:
Why will more people likely die in America than China?
