Why would the president have any democrats at a signing ceremoney? It's not like the bill passed the Senate unanimously or anything...

But... it's not just that. Note the complete lack of an attempt to demonstrate "social distancing" or anything approaching safety.

So many interesting posts,  so much to absorb.   Stay well,  Larry.

RIP a GOM of civil rights.

Red,  have you actually read Reich,  or Fukuyama?  I doubt it.   Why engage?

Sanitary procedures on outings make sense,  when you really think out the contact points.   Like I was in a big box store yesterday, couldn't make the automated checkout touchscreen work with my elbow,  had to use fingertips.   Ditto the card reader,  inputting my pin.   So made sure to use alcohol sanitizer on way out,  wiped the card,  cleaned hands, and so on.   No indication from the staff that they wipe down touchscreen and pad after each user, so I had to assume a potential vector there.

Another random thought - what happens to mass transit in this country?   Or carpooling.  Or any transportation option that reduces pollution?  Will this situation strike a long-term blow to them?   Many of our greatest cities are just not designed to handle a fleet of nothing but single-passenger cars.

There are ways to make public transport safe(r).

NJ Transit should do a temp check of everyone entering any station and hand a face mask out to each rider.  Digital thermometers take just a few seconds.
Then no passengers would have fevers and all would be wearing masks.  If I were Mayor/Gov of NYC/NY I would require it for incoming trains.  But also NJ should require it for all trains/passengers.

Despite whatever kiid was getting at, Manhattan has a strategic location since you need to use either a bridge or tunnel to enter.  Natural checkpoints.  I'd certainly have train and bus passengers screened before arriving.

In 2006, ProPublica editor Daniel Golden stumbled on Kushner’s admission while writing a book about how wealthy donors to elite colleges routinely get their kids who otherwise wouldn’t make the cut into those schools. While investigating Harvard’s Committee on University Resources, a.k.a. donors, for The Price of Admission, Golden discovered that both Kushner’s parents, Charles and Seryl, were members. He also found that in 1998, when then-unknown New Jersey high school student Jared was looking at colleges, Charles Kushner pledged a gift of $2.5 million to Harvard, to be paid in annual installments of $250,000. Jared eventually graduated from the college in 2003.

Which seemed like an extraordinary feat to those who knew Kushner in high school: “There was no way anybody in the administrative office of the school thought he would on the merits get into Harvard,” a former official at The Frisch School in Paramus, New Jersey, told Golden. “His GPA did not warrant it, his SAT scores did not warrant it. We thought for sure, there was no way this was going to happen. Then, lo and behold, Jared was accepted. It was a little bit disappointing because there were at the time other kids we thought should really get in on the merits, and they did not.”

Technically legal methods that skirt ethics—and remain tax-deductible. “When parents make a big donation directly to a university that’s tax-deductible,” Golden said, “is that really a gift or is that a purchase of a good or service?”

In this new $2T bill is the suspension of Affirmative Action rules in federal contracting...the GOP insisted on that provision.

The basis of the slander against E. Warren was she used Affirmative Action to advance her career.

Right now the nation is being run by two incompetent recipients of old fashioned Affirmative Action; money, power and connections.

They’re surrounded with the same.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/28/health/coronavirus-hydroxychloroquine-trial/index.html

Dr. Fauci's agency (the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) has not put any money into trials for hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine. Neither has the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

These leads me to suspect that despite President Trump's enthusiasm for them that they are perhaps less promising than Trump, Kid, and other fans seem to believe.

There will be careful studies done of them, I am sure. But I would look in other directions for your miracle cures, Kid.

The epicenter of the United States’ COVID-19 pandemic has started clinical trials on pharmaceutical drugs that could potentially treat the virus. According to a news release by New York Gov., Andrew Cuomo the observational studies began on Tuesday.
The news release stated

During a press conference on Tuesday, the governor showed confidence in the face of unprecedented concern. “We hope for optimistic results,” Cuomo said of the clinical trials. “The president and the FDA accelerated that drug coming to New York the hospitals will start using that drug today

Desperate times lead to desperate measures.

Still no comment about your president's refusal to do his job because his feelings are hurt?
