“Basically, the US was unprepared, there was and somehow still is a face mask shortage and then the medical professionals lied to you to make you feel okay about that.”

And that, dear friends, is the bottom line.

I understand the ‘rationale’ of not wanting to cause a panic but fucking common sense says some protection is better than none.

Don't worry, Bo. Kid would agree with you 100% if Obama were still President.

Thumbs up emoji.

....

So Wuhan could be expected to have a backlog of 12,500 urns, from 10K normal deaths and 2,500 viral deaths.  Suddenly things seem a lot less sinister.

Good analysis.   The media is a hungry beast and sometimes gnaws on its own foot for sustenance.

Simply: the US Gov't failed to prepare and plan and protect.

Nothing we were to do in late January was stopping this thing.

It's about how it's handled now.

People are fucking dying.  It's sad as hell.  And disrupting.  And scary - in whatever way you get scared (little, lot or batshit nuts).  Many of those who get through it will need to keep talking, rehashing, etc.     Some will be total dicks.  Others will just move on.  And LIVE.

Good night.

kid you're half right, its about how we handle it now.

This is our blood sweat and tears moment. we all have to help in the ways we can to beat this fucking thing. For some that's just staying home and not helping spread this disease.

BUT you're wrong in that some pro-active leadership early on and being educated about pandemic diseases might blunted this curse early on.

Trump was ill prepared and overwhelmed by the science of the disease.

So he he called it a hoax, and a politcal ploy to make him look bad and made it a red/blue repub/dem issue.

its was a public health issue and the guy who does not believe in facts or science or sacrifice is in charge of an issue that can only be dealt with with facts and science and sacrifice and credible leadership.

God help us and bless us.

To all Elbanese I hope you and your families are well.

Fauci not so good at math - or is it this particular Yahoo writer?

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/coronavirus-live-updates-global-pandemic-killed-more-30-075002087--abc-news-topstories.html

100-200,000 is 10% of 1-2 million

At 2% the number of dead off 2 million cases would be 40,000.

heh

ya think?

Media members allowed to go about their business.  Doesn't matter their prowess - just that they are "media"

Many of the best and brightest are told to stay the fuck home.

Seems a funny way to attack a real national crisis.

On the issue of gentrification in our neighborhoods...

Some people view gentrification as being a bad thing, they just want cheap rent, and they do not care about issues like drugs, crime, murders, and stuff like that. But, with gentrification the prices go up, and in order to live in the area you need to have some sort of means of making more money, which means that you have job training, or are some sort of educated professional, and so you end up with a higher class of people, and the crime goes down, and people begin to expect more from the community and more from themselves. Instead of jumping into a gang and dealing drugs or whatever, you expect more from your life, so instead of prisons you build colleges. Instead of raising gangsters, you are raising doctors and lawyers, and future world leaders, etc.

Making things nice and expecting more from ourselves is a good thing. Building colleges instead of prisons is a good thing. And the children have better role models. The children want to be more like Elon Musk, and less like Lil Wayne.

It is worthwhile to clean up the neighborhoods and make them nice, and to have nice restaurants and stuff, even though the prices go up.

I have seen areas go down, and I have seen areas rise, and it is much better when areas rise. And some people are taught that pride is a bad thing, or that it is only for gays, but that is all bullshit, we should all have pride, and we should try to make our Moms proud of us, etc. Pride is natural in nature too, just look at a stallion, you can see the pride in a nice stallion.

And instead of numbing their brains with drugs, the kids can feed their minds with books. They can be proud and smart instead of being self loathing and drug addicted. They can be the ones who help others, instead of always needing someone else to help them. They can be givers instead of takers.

Gentrification can be a good thing for a neighborhood. Higher rents are worth it if crime goes down, and if people expect more out of themselves and more out of each other, and if people take pride in their neighborhood instead of complaining about living in a ghetto.

Those are just a few thoughts on that.

Salute,

Tony V.

Gov. Cuomo (NY) has become the new FDR, and that is meant as the highest compliment, with his daily updates "fire-side chats.  He has shown leadership with his truth, no bullshit, but down to earth updates to keep people informed and comforted.

history will remember him well.

Mario would be proud.

In a head-to-head presidential matchup, Biden is up by 49-40 percent over Trump, a lead that is outside the poll’s margin of sampling error. Another 11 percent would vote for someone else or are undecided.

Many of the UNDECIDED are decided - heavily leaning or set - but simply undeclared, of course

Indeed, strong enthusiasm for Biden among his supporters – at just 24% – is the lowest on record for a Democratic presidential candidate in 20 years of ABC/Post polls. More than twice as many of Trump’s supporters are highly enthusiastic about supporting him, 53%.

Trump’s still-strong rating on the economy is another challenge for Biden. So is this: Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who prefer Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for the nomination, 15% say they’d back Trump over Biden in the fall.

While trailing Trump by 29 points in high-level enthusiasm, Biden makes up some of the difference with those who are “somewhat” enthusiastic. But he still trails Trump by 12 points in the combined measure, 74 vs. 86%.

Yes.  Quite impressive.

I expect talk to ramp up regarding the possibility of Cuomo for 2020 - not that he is willing to run - this being unknown

Would make a better VP candidate than Harris.

Tricky part is how does he even campaign - unless the crisis is over?  Plate's a bit full.

At 2% the number of dead off 2 million cases would be 40,000.

The Yahoo (not a good news source) writer left out a couple figures that would have helped that make sense.   There are different statistical models,  some which say that reported cases will be only ten percent of actual totals.   So those models put total cases at 10 million, if there are one million reported.   One percent of ten million is 100,000.   It's possible the writer mixed up the U Mass-Amherst study and the Imperial College study,  and which one Fauci was referencing.  I notice several news groups got this same mix-up.  Possibly from just clipping partial quotes from other news feeds.

The numbers right now are 1.6% of REPORTED POSITIVES that have died (in the US - rising from earlier 1.3ish)

If you think 10 times more are currently infected - then that "dead" number falls to 0.16% at least for now
