Note the spread of COVID in the nation has been linked to a.religious service.

I've seen figures suggesting  that services with singing produce much greater contagion than,  say,  Quaker meetings or other relatively silent gatherings.   Apparently forcefully putting air out through your mouth will put more virus in the air.   Seems fairly intuitive.
Wife has been doing online services,  and did a Zoom chat with the priest last week.   She also goes to Adoration,  a prayer thing where you just sit in church and there's usually a couple other people in the sanctuary, all widely spaced of course,  and everyone washes their hands as they leave and uses an elbow to go out the door.

Bo - I think you've fully chronicled America's weird relationship to mask wearing.   I think it just shows the power of misinformation.  And repetition of it.

I will confess to very possibly being wrong.

While the number of new cases and number of new dead continue to be in or close to new record territory in the US, the rate of increase has definitely slowed or stopped over the last couple days.

It's too early to be sure that this is not a lull, but it isn't just a single day blip. We haven't had a new high in daily cases since April 4th. We haven't had a new high in daily deaths since April 7th, though I would caution that new high was 48% above the previous high, three days before, and we were within 71 of that peak yesterday. We'd seen four out of five days between 1000 and 1330. Now we've had 3 between 1900 and 1971, going into today. Still, reason for cautious optimism.

SAN FRANCISCO— Apple Inc. and Google will together build software that would alert people if they were in contact with someone infected with the coronavirus, an unprecedented collaboration between two Silicon Valley giants and rivals.

The project is certain to raise privacy concerns but offers the most concrete technological solution to date for governmental authorities searching for ways to lift, at least partially, lockdown orders that have swept across the nation. The companies are by far the world’s biggest smartphone software providers, with billions of users world-wide.

Line item in my checking account this morning.
US Treasury Dept.- Covid-19(CORVIR) Stimulus   +$1200

You must have more need than I do.

So, it turns out that Ward was out and out lying.

Pretty revolting, Ward.

How can one not love this guy?

Teaching the meaning of religious occasions to Trump is like teaching calculus to a dog.

What's weird is that Rapid City,  in the heart of Lakota country,  has the lowest rate of COVID of any metro in the US,  AFAICT.

If anyone finds a lower rate than RCSD for a comparable sized metro,  please let me know. ...

Boone County, where I'm at,  has almost same exact population as yours,  but 11 times the cases.   Since the county seat is Columbia (Go Tigers!),  that's no real surprise.

Why is it no surprise?  Just curious.  What goes on in Columbia?

Mizzou??  Thousands of overseas students,  many Asian,  coming and going (at least until February) from a large densely packed university campus.   Also,  we're on the main interstate between KC and St Lou.

1   "What happens after we are done hunkering down?" Levin went on. "Doesn't that mean millions of people never had the virus because they successfully hunkered down? Doesn't that mean millions of people will be highly susceptible to getting it again or getting it the first time? They are not developing an immunity.

"Tens of millions of Americans, as a result of this mitigation that Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx are focused on, will not have developed any immunity to this."

"Why aren't you issuing guidelines to states and localities that help them [stay open]? There [are] thousands of small businesses, medium-sized businesses ... who can mitigate and remain open," he said.

Levin noted that Trump and his task force are not responsible for restricting commerce beyond issuing social distancing recommendations, including the avoidance of gatherings of more than ten people.

Levin claimed that there will be great damage done to the U.S. as a whole if both medical experts and governors with strict restrictions watch as "ten [to] 25 percent unemployment" creeps up in their states.

However, Levin noted that Trump and his task force are not responsible for restricting commerce beyond issuing social distancing recommendations, including the avoidance of gatherings of more than ten people.

"To be clear," Levin said, "President Trump hasn't shut a single business, the governors did."

"Are you tracking the number of people who might have lived but for the directive against so-called elective surgery? Individuals with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc.? What are the numbers of suicides so far in February and March that have occurred? We have no idea," the former Reagan Justice Department official added.

"How many people who had the coronavirus are living today because they used hydroxychloroquine? Are they tracking that? They have been very ambiguous about this, I think it's a perfectly good question."

Levin is an idiot.

Vaccines.
Extreme social distancing works.
He has no clue what an elective surgery is.
Only a complete fucking idiot does not understand why you analyze the effectiveness of a treatment in a clinical setting.

One cannot separate the content from the source, Kid.

Mark Levin's questions are derived from his ignorance.

Building herd immunity by having everybody catch the disease was "fine" when we had no choice - but way more deadly than even what we've seen so far.

The goal is to develop immunity by vaccination, not by primary exposure to the disease.

My guess is Levin is correct - in that businesses (churches and schools as well) - after careful thought - WILL in fact be opening sooner than now being projected by the understandably careful masses.  And in states where not allowed, citizens will ask why they are waiting.

Didn't need the massive number of ventilators demanded.

Won't see the staggering number of deaths projected.

And now WILL see the economy "open" when reasonable, despite outcries from certain groups.

I do wonder, with regards to the schools - will they re-open on a non-mandatory basis?  And how exactly would this work?

Could be states keep their schools out longer to avoid this - for example - 10% of parents refusing to send their kids back.
