We’re embarked on a grand experiment to see what will happen during a pandemic when there is no coordinated federal response. When it comes to running uncontrolled experiments on unwilling or unwitting subjects, republicans are all in for science.

Today, Kid's hero Dr. Oz proposed that if it would "only" cost 1,200 - 1,800 additional lives, that reopening the schools would be okay with him.

Sure, he said, "a life is a life," but letting this kids get back where they would be safe and fed seems important to him.

NOTE: a lot of folks have misinterpreted him to be talking about 2-3% of all children or of all people in the country, or perhaps, more generously, "only" of all COVID-19 cases. I am pretty sure he means the even smaller set of all deaths from COVID-19. Otherwise he's talking about  13,000-20,000 in the most generous of those.

So, "only" 1,200-1,800 deaths is much better, right?!

(Don't forget the additional deaths of kids killed in the re-opened schools' mass shootings, Dr. Oz!)

Kid, you should skip this post altogether. It's discussing how the deaths get recording in the US and changes made in the CDC's recommended reporting procedures which have changed both present and previous number of cases and deaths.
For those of you who care about accuracy in our numbers and who do want to understand what is going on:

We had cases which were deemed "probably dead from COVID-19," but which were excluded from the totals. They will now be included in the numbers - going in on the date reported, until and unless they are broken out for historical accuracy, whereupon the worldometer (dot) com folks will adjust even more numbers retroactively.

This means that yesterday was up over 2,600 deaths instead of a "mere" bit above 2,400.

Just part of how trump gets the overall death toll including collateral deaths back up to the yuge numbers predicted earlier.

It's safe to say that many collateral deaths from cv19 will never be part of the count.   Just read about myths on social media that mislead people in dangerous ways.   Last month, Iranian media reported more than 300 people had died and 1,000 were sickened in the country after ingesting methanol, rumored to be a remedy through private social media messages.   FB has started factchecks, then issuing warnings to users who encountered false claims,  but there's so much toxic spew out there.
