It’s going to be a winnowing summer with pure evil from the White House in the United States. Larry would be quick to point out and I would be as quick to agree, as would several others, that the White House has always put forth a steady output of evils. In this case there will be nothing countervailing of benefit to offset the evil and very little to constrain it. Trump is combining the rapaciousness of pre 9/11 Shrub with the defensiveness guilt and paranoia of last days Nixon. He’s doing it in the middle of a pandemic. He starves and stresses that which does the most good while promoting and resourcing parasitic initiatives of which he expects his cut.

I expect when we finally control this here, in the end we will nationalize certain industries and stop subsidizing some others. It will mean some major changes, but it should make us a little more resilient in the face of the next impending disaster. Hopefully, it will also make us a better nation to share the planet with and that may allow us to begin to rebuild our standing and reputation in the world.

The pandemic’s finger in the US has already evolved with the constant nurturing from the republican party to CODs numbering easily into 6 figures over the next three months. The question now is does it stay in the low six figures or does trump’s evil drive it back into the high six figures of earlier projections?

We just have to keep living like we’re in a plague zone until he’s gone. The fact that he is both part and cause of our plague is occurring to more and more Americans

ACTIVE CASES in CHINA

1,031 Currently Infected Patients
  950 (92%) in Mild Condition
    81 (8%) Serious or Critical

And even with that low threat everyday precautions remain in place in Shanghai where everybody still wears masks, stays inside a fair amount, temp checks still relatively common, etc.

There's a minor outbreak around the remote NE border with Russia.
27 new cases today.  They're putting resources into it, and will likely contain things up there.  Keep it from the big cities up that way.

CHina trying to prepare for a possible 2nd wave.  To get on a domestic flight in China, besides the basics of a temp check, you have to scan 2 QR codes.  One permits the gov't to see your mobile phone location over the past 14 days.   The other registers which flight you were on for contact tracing purposes in case any passengers or crew or perhaps airport personnel come down with the virus later.  Then on arrival you scan another health code so the local gov't know who you are, how you arrived and where you've been the previous 2 weeks.

I don't know if that would fly in the US.  But that's flight travel in the age of coronavirus.  Is it a perfect system?  Of course not, but it's a coordinated nationwide system and will help limit transmissions if someone on a flight does contract the virus.

Other countries -- Australia, Austria, UK and probably more -- are trying to get people to voluntarily download a tracking app.  The idea is to have all the data anonymous, but if someone becomes infected, the system can pull out all the phones that were in close proximity within the past 10 days or whatever and send a warning message to each potential contact.  Somewhat of an untested method, but could prove useful.  Australai said that they'd likely need 40% of the pop to sign up to make it effective.

When Trump touts his early decision to ban flights from China, Biden needs to be prepared:

- The outbreak in NY/NJ came from Europe according to the viral strains/mutations.  Trump failed to safeguard the country form Europe in time, despite the North Italy outbreak in mid/late Feb.

- still 40K people came to the US from China after Trump's loophole filled travel restriction.  American citizens and Chinese green card holders waltzed in and started the Washington and CA outbreaks.

- and the US was unprepared and fumbled everything else before and after the China travel restriction.  Everything from testing to PPE.  January and February were utterly wasted as the Trump Admin failed to prepare.  And Trump constantly downplayed the threat.  And then half measures were undertaken in March when the spread could have been contained and lives could have been saved.

- there still hasn't been a coordinated national response, which the health emergency necessitated.   States left on their own and scrambling for PPE and teasing supplies. Just a failure of leadership from start to 700K infected and 40 thousand dead.

- the crassness of turning the daily Covid-19 press briefing into reelection campaigning.  That a real leader would leave it to the medical professionals, and come perhaps once a week to provide actual news and national policy.  And not only does Trump hog the spotlight, but also asserts that he takes no responsibility at all for his failures.

Maybe Biden should then slyly look at Trump and say You're Fired!

The US had 3042 deaths in March. We're looking at 57-60,000 deaths in April.

The Stanford-based study in Santa Clara that estimated that there were as many as 85 times the official count of cases in the city has come under heavy fire for flawed statistical methodology on a number of levels, with the kinder folks accusing them of incompetence and the less kind folks suggesting they had predetermined goals in their research and their numbers were cooked to match it.

People who actually care about folks other than themselves.

Clearly, I am not talking to you, even if I had thought I might be.

Given that you have already said you don't want to see my projections, why the fuck do you insist on replying to them?

The random sampling is so not random,  this should be ripped to shreds in peer review.
