CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we found no evidence that use of hydroxychloroquine, either with or without azithromycin, reduced the risk of mechanical ventilation in patients hospitalized with Covid-19. An association of increased overall mortality was identified in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine alone. These findings highlight the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing prospective, randomized, controlled studies before widespread adoption of these drugs.

Another great former resident of Newton,  MA.   Met him several times there - he occasionally attended the Unitarian church.

The GOP Congress hard at work, along with some greedy restaurant owners:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-chains-like-shake-shack-ruths-chris-potbelly-qualified-for-ppp-small-business-coronavirus-relief-loans-170921820.html

Brownie points for Shake Shack for their quick reversal.

That PPP loophole was huge.   Almost like someone meant for it to be there.   Grifters gotta grift.

In a nation with outstanding universal healthcare and elder care, thanks to its socialist system,  this might be workable.   Thanks for acknowledging the value of socialist democracy!

Or,  as my grandparents would say, Tack sa mycket  !

Yeah, Kid complained about this one when I posted about it a couple days ago, initially complaining that he could not understand what I was saying (pro or con) about it, then attacking the article because the study didn't have as many people as the study he claimed I didn't acknowledge from France, because I was "on the rag," still.

It needs peer review and it wasn't it's own set of patients which meant a lack of controls. Still, a chilling set of results when set against the claims out of that one doctor from France.

Is it really that difficult for you to put the actual story's link up, Ward?

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/22/no-lockdown-in-sweden-but-stockholm-could-see-herd-immunity-in-weeks.html

That would work better were it not for the story you seem to have skimmed over which suggests that having had the disease does not seem to be granting immunity...

Also, from the story:
Quote
But Sweden’s 1,937 deaths is far higher in number and proportionally to Denmark’s 370 and Finland’s 141.

Is that a good tradeoff in your opinion?

This is an interesting chart - it shows total cases, since 10,000, in the US vs. Europe on a day by day basis.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/worldwide-graphs/#europe-usa-cases

From the news, I would not have guessed at the relationship between the two paths of the graph.

It's not a fixed image, so I cannot just pain the pic here. It allows highlighting either path and seeing individual day's figure for one path or the other.

It's not like that at all.
RedWard is genuinely concerned about the poor who need to work, and he's concerned about domestic abuse and drug use.  He wants to lift restrictions so the poor can die quicker and avoid all those unpleasant pathologies.

Wow, Belgium really farked up.
Though half of that sounds like the US blunders.  And then they went ahead with more mistakes and incompetence.

I am waiting to see how countries who did little and took the virus lightly fare.  Turkey, Sweden, UK, Belgium, etc.

What's clear is that countries that had a poor, weak early response got hit hard.  Italy, Spain, US, Iran, China in Hubei.

Sweden's chief epidemiologist, as Ward reported above, thinks they are weeks away from herd immunity.

This would work better if the reports that immunity is not happening are wrong, but this is me not holding my breath. Sweden also reports more than 10x the deaths of their neighboring countries and that the virus is clobbering their elderly.

Belgium is highest of any country with more than 1,000 cases in deaths per million. The UK is 5th. Spain, Italy, and France are in the middle. Sweden is 7th highest. (I am pretty unclear how that qualifies as "working," but what do I know?!)

I don't trust Turkey to be an honest reporter. So, except for them, you named three countries and all are in the top 7.
