It's not like that at all.
RedWard is genuinely concerned about the poor who need to work, and he's concerned about domestic abuse and drug use.  He wants to lift restrictions so the poor can die quicker and avoid all those unpleasant pathologies.

Liberal democracy has always been hampered by its lack of Social Darwinists (who,  again,  should be called Social Spencerians).   Just think, if Norman Borlaug hadn't gone to India in the sixties and figured out how to increase their grain crop,  India would have kept its population at 400 million.   And still be able to plow fields and gather harvests with oxen,  in case of an oil shortage.  Of course,  they'd have had to skip mass literacy, prosperity,  having a middle class,  and not having mass famines every five years.

Clearly, when he wanted to go to India, they should have stopped him and said. "You shall not pass!"

Trials in process are called into question even before they have reported any results because of how they have been constructed - especially for comparisons to "standard of care," because there is no such standard extant to be compared with.

The GOP Congress hard at work, along with some greedy restaurant owners:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-chains-like-shake-shack-ruths-chris-potbelly-qualified-for-ppp-small-business-coronavirus-relief-loans-170921820.html

Brownie points for Shake Shack for their quick reversal.

That PPP loophole was huge.   Almost like someone meant for it to be there.   Grifters gotta grift.

A Republican Congress?
The stimulus packages passed by voice votes with democrats controlling the House and the Senate holding a slim GOP majority.

But before you attack Shake Shack  et al  remember that a bipartisan Congress may have done harm as well as good deeds.
Unemployment benefits now guarantee unemployed workers 15$ an hour PLUS standard unemployment compensation through July. Here is one take on what this means in the restaurant business.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.com/amp/articles/our-restaurants-cant-reopen-until-august-11587504885

And now we have President Trump bowing to his base and temporarily halting immigration for 60 days.
If the Government is paying unemployed workers $ 600 more a month than they can make on the job why would they work?
And if businesses of ANY size are not able to find affordable help( foreign or domestic)then who is left holding the bag?

Oh, and another thing you can take to the poorhouse with you.
Both parties will extend their massage of their bases through the election, or try to.

I am more than a bit confused.

They've adjusted their projected death toll up to 66,000 by August.

We're at 45,000 now and had 19,000+ in the last 9 days, with a new record high yesterday. If we merely match the last 9 days, we'll be at 64,000+ by the start of May and they're talking 66,000 in August?!

https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america

They're projecting that we'll drop below 1,000 deaths per day by May 1 and below 100 per day by May 18th.

Given that they think we are now 7 days past our peak in deaths per day, I suppose I can understand the rest of their beliefs - they're out of their minds! We had a new record high yesterday, suggesting that we are not past the peak.

One of your most incisive posts.   Yes,  I've thought this might be a problem for service businesses, especially ones that didn't want to close entirely.   If you are a restaurant or coffee shop that's doing delivery and/or curbside pickup,  you need someone with economic incentives to show up.   There are always problems with one size fits all relief systems.

I'd had that thought, but interestingly, none of those I know who've been on unemployment seems to have decided to stay when work opened up for them. I even explicitly pointed out to a couple of them that they would be making more with unemployment than employed.

I also know some who have chosen not to apply for unemployment who could have, though fewer of those.

Fox News actually reported those pre-print results on hcquine, and fairly evenhanded.  Wow,  maybe having Trump transfer his infatuation to OANN helped Fox to regain a little journalistic professionalism.

Well once numbers fall below a thousand a day.......

There will be quibbles over exact counts anyway - be sure the Dems will be tacking on to the total - saying there were X amount purposely "uncounted" or unincluded" .

This is why talks of body counts are not only morbid but downright stupid.

28% treated with just hydroxychloroquine died

A spokeswoman for the Department of Veterans Affairs said that the research findings should not be seen as definitive. "This was not a clinical trial. It is simply an analysis of retrospective data regarding hospitalized patients," she told Fox News, via email. "The findings should not be viewed as definitive because the analysis doesn’t adjust for patients’ clinical status and showed that hydroxychloroquine alone was provided to VA’s sickest COVID-19 patients, many times as a last resort."

Well, ok then.

The Whitmer for Biden Veep campaign seems to be on life support.

Forget her unpopular state lockdown orders that led to protests. ( her response was along the lines of Shut Up! Obey!)

(Now Consider that)
on Monday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a new project intended to trace contacts between people who were potentially exposed to the novel coronavirus.

Such a system could potentially help contain and slow the spread of the virus, though many have raised concerns over the intrusive nature of a program that would generate a lot of detailed, private data about people. But that wasn’t the only issue being raised.

As it turns out, Whitmer awarded the contract to Every Action VAN, described as one of the left’s biggest technology firms. The group was also a vendor on the payroll of Whitmer’s campaign. In addition, their parent organization has ties to both the Clintons and Joe Biden’s campaign, as well as having done work for hundreds of labor unions.

https://freebeacon.com/coronavirus/facing-criticism-whitmer-rescinds-contract-awarded-to-dem-consulting-firm/

The Beacon info went viral and Whitmer quickly canceled the contract.
