Some people are murdered for jogging while black.   How on God's green earth did these killers walk away with no charges in February, and only now,  because of the video,  is a grand jury convening?   If travesties like this can't be stopped,  there is no hope for this country as the expression of ideals of liberty and justice.   We might as well be a failed state.

Stephen Moore, a Heritage Foundation economist who informally advises Trump and other administration officials, said in an interview on Monday that he and fellow conservative economist Art Laffer had already sent their policy memo on opening states to the White House last week. The memo was based on a recent Laffer Associates study that Moore says was conducted over the course of “a couple weeks,” and is now in the hands of senior White House staff.

“Our model shows that if we start the opening of the country [right about now], by the end of the summer we could start to see a recovery,” Moore said. “But if we wait until, say, the middle of June, we might have to write off all of 2020. At that point, so much wealth would have evaporated.

Laffler? Why would he start being right now?

Just cause we’re failing now doesn’t mean we can’t pull our grade up if we turn ourselves around and get our act together. Of course that isn’t something that’s really possible nationally for at least the next seven months. It will have to be individuals, municipalities, and states leading the way in the laboratories of progress in search of a tomorrow that lives up to our promise....

Yep,  I think the process will be one of shifting to state-level initiatives and more consortium building between allied states.   Whether or not that leads to Balkanization  RTBS.

I wrote the below post on March 23rd.

We saw, Kid. We did not manage to make it more like the flu.

We did not manage to keep deaths down to a 'mere' 1,631 deaths per day. We're at an average of more than 5,700 per day. The world blew past that 128,808 figure almost a month ago (April 14th). 23 days later, we're more than double that.

The United States, alone averages substantially more than that 1,600 figure. Yesterday was 50% more, though the average is closer to 25% above the former world number.

Exactly

As Trump said today - "it's like nothing anyone has ever seen"

But as Oz said - "maybe we can get it to act more like the flu"

We'll see starting this week.

I edited my post with this analysis:

It stops for COVID-19 on March 18th.

Going into 3/23, we're at 14,638 dead, which is Day 82 to Day 83. The Swine Flu of 2009-2010 doesn't hit that many dead until Day 138 (14,571).

Day 138 for us is going to be May 17th.

So, Kid...

Do you want to bet whether COVID-19 still ahead of the Swine Flu pace by the end of May, when it's Day 152 and the SF was up to 23,129 dead?

The end of June (Day 182), when the SF was up to 43,628?

Day 213 (what will be the end of July for us) saw that the Swine Flu had tapered off - a mere 59,367 had died.

Day 244 (our end of August) was at 83,472, having picked up again, with a vengeance.

Day 274 (our end of September) was at 125,881.

Day 305 (our end of October) was at 185,851, a staggering 60,000 more dead in just a month.

Day 335 (Our end of November) was at ~225,500.

Yesterday, the world saw 1,631 new deaths. If we (society) can keep it from killing more people per day, that would see a 'mere' 48,930 people die per month. Day 70, the end of May, we'd have 128,808 dead... three months ahead of the Swine Flu.

If we have the proportion of new dead to cases stay constant, it's much worse.

Writing for a unanimous court, Justice Elena Kagan said that "for no reason" other than "political payback" the aides "used deception" to cut access lanes from Fort Lee, New Jersey, to the bridge.

The move "jeopardized the safety of the town's residents," Kagan wrote, but concluded that "not every corrupt act by state or local officials is a federal crime."

I find that a chilling conclusion.

They were guilty of what they were accused of, but using the public safety for your own personal vendetta is not a crime.

Unanimous is unanimous, so I accept their conclusion that under the laws of the United States, that is somehow okay.

But I am disgusted.

If you subtract out the NYC figures, the US new case tally is still increasing on a week over week basis.

And out comes Christie with the same spin that was used for Trump.  No crime was proven, therefore it was all a witch hunt.

Dead people don't buy shit.

The Laffer Curve has been misused by conservatives for decades,  and Laffer has been happy to let them do it.   He's always been a guy with more math than heart.   So his thinking is probably that grandparents are useless ciphers.

For those of us who still believe in considering possibilities, I thought you might be interested in the report on Finland's recently completed Universal Basic Income experiment.
