NBC has apologized for an editing error on Sunday’s Meet The Press hosted nowadays by Chuck Todd. The error came in the way Todd broadcast an edited version of a CBS interview with Attorney General William Barr.
Todd cued a video tape of Barr responding to a question by CBS reporter Catherine Herridge over what history would say about the Barr decision to drop all charges against Michael Flynn.
“history is written by the winner. So it largely depends on who’s writing the history.”
Todd live:
It’s a correct answer, But he’s the attorney general. He didn’t make the case that he was upholding the rule of law. He was almost admitting that, yeah, this is a political job.
But.
Meet the Press didn’t include Barr’s full answer to The question. Which was :
But I think a fair history would say that it was a good decision because it upheld the rule of law. It upheld the standards of the Department of Justice, and it undid what was an injustice.
So Barr actually said what Todd accused him of not saying.
Obviously the great journalistic days of NBC News with Huntley, Brinkley, and Russert are never coming back.
