restructure and re-brand the police.

in part its marketing.

cops have fairly or unfairly been sterotyped as being power hungry authoritarian bullies taking out their anger issues on the populace.

And hanging out at Dunkin Donuts

Maybe pyschological testing should try and weed out the bullies earlier in the process and screen for those more interested in safety and helping than carrying a big poweful gun, a long hard baton and getting freebies at Dunkin.

So maybe instead of "police" we call them "community help and safety squad"

Fuck it if they cant get the gun and baton, they get the Dunkin' freebies

Whats wrong with fixing and restructuring institutions paid for with tax dollars that need restructuring and fixing and made more responsive and accountable to their constituents?

Perhpas there are better approaches to public safety and police departments.

The sound bite "defunding police" on its face sounds like it could lead to chaos, so its probably not going to happen anytime soon or in an overly dramatic manner.

So perhaps Dem strategists should think hard about feeding Repubs talking points to unecessarily scare the populace and defflect and distract from the real issues like police abuse of power.

Because as shown by Reichs-corporal Red the Repubs are already weaponizing it to scare (mostly) white people.

And lets not fool ourselves the Repubs could give a fuck about large city populations or their safety.

They’re running the same playbook with an aging offensive line and a running back with a bum knee.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/08/us/brevard-county-florida-police-union-misconduct-trnd/index.html

The Fraternal Order of Police in Brevard County has offered jobs to police who have been fired or who resigned over misconduct.

They are taking some heat for it.

But remember... it's only a few bad apples.

Kind of like you on anything like the AG's claim that there is no systemic racism in the judicial system. Or about the shootings of unarmed black men and women. Or the targeting of media and medical members during the protests.

Or your own hypocrisy.

better to backstoke away from a dumb political issue than to crawl for years before a fascist wannabe dictatorDonnie

Red is desperate to change the issue to anything but the real issue of the despot who has infected decent America for the past 3+ years.

So he parrots  the new Repub-talking point propaganda.

So fucking predictable.

Red is highly invested in the KKK welfare aspect of modern policing. His brethren are otherwise unemployable due to how corrosive training has amplified latent psychosis. He’s worried that if these crackers have too much time on their hands they will find Islam or realize they are being deployed on the wrong side of a class war they could be winning if they went after the wealthy they way they gleefully hunt blacks.

George Floyd's Lawyer Asks United Nations to Intervene in Case

Ben Crump, the attorney representing George Floyd's family, has called on the United Nations to intervene and investigate the circumstances around the middle-aged black man's death and to make recommendations about law enforcement reforms.

"Among the reforms requested were deescalating techniques, independent prosecutions and autopsies for every extrajudicial police killing in an effort to stop further human rights abuses including torture and extrajudicial killings of African Americans to protect their inherent and fundamental human right to life," Crump said in a statement about the June 3 letter sent to the U.N.

"The United States of America has a long pattern and practice of depriving Black citizens of the fundamental human right to life ...The United States government has consistently failed to hold police accountable and did not bring Federal criminal charges even in cases with irrefutable video evidence. When a group of people of any nation have been systemically deprived of their universal human right to life by its government for decades, it must appeal to the international community for its support and to the United Nations for its intervention," Crump said.

First thing that should happen;

All death chambers in America should be bulldozed.

UN? now it is getting "bigger than Ben Hur."

Defund the Police?

democrats are struggling with this one.

What say you Nancy Pelosi?

That’s a local decision,” Pelosi said, noting that they would have “those debates at the local level.”

Oh.
How about Kamala Harris?

We need to reimagine how we are achieving public safety in America,” she said, noting that cities that direct “one-third of the budget to police” instead of “public schools, job training and job creation—come on. We have to be honest with this.”

LOL.
Jim Clyburn House democratic whip from South Carolina? he supports restructuring police departments to ensure resources are deployed to protect and serve all Americans equitably."

Thanks, Jim.

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said that he did not support the movement and said that while he understands “the sentiment and the substance behind the slogan” of “defund the police,” he said, “it’s not a slogan I’ll use.”

Not much of a Spartacus moment.

Rep. Karen Bass, the leader of the influential Congressional Black Caucus, came out against slashing police budgets.” No, I don't believe that we should defund police departments.

Memo to all democrats outside the beltway:
You are on your own on this issue!
Some of them at least understand what the policy is. Unlike you  - although it is sometimes hard to tell if you are stupid or lying. Harris is essentially making the point.

It is discussed at the very end of this:
