A retired police chief discusses the racism in his life, from 14 through his becoming police chief and then deputy mayor. It includes when, while chief, he got pulled over by one of his own cops who did not know who he was at first, because the officer "suspected the car was stolen."

If my uniform, badge and education cannot protect me from anti-black violence, what can? Now is the time to get to the heart of the matter: There must be a major effort to fundamentally restructure police departments so that they actually do what they promise: Serve and protect all people.

June 12, 2020 (Friday)

I kicked around on the internet for hours trying to find a way into today’s news, and at 11:23 p.m., Trump handed it to me.

He tweeted that he is changing the date of his June 19 rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Noting that the date is Juneteenth—the day celebrating black freedom since 1865—he said “Many of my African American friends and supporters have reached out to suggest that we consider changing the date out… of respect for this Holiday, and in observance of this important occasion and all it represents. I have therefore decided to move our rally to Saturday, June 20, in order to honor their requests….”

As White House reporter Jonathan Lemire put it, “Trump blinks. Which happens very, very rarely.” A strong majority of Americans oppose his handling of racial issues, and apparently his advisors finally concluded that holding a rally on Juneteenth would hurt his election campaign more than it would help.

Scott Morrison haD to admit that white Australia was built on the backs of forced indigenous labor. Bambi always did sound like he was talking from a slave state.

The looting continues in low income communities. Pay day lenders should be getting run out by the national guard.

Postal lending is Civil Defense.

Not quite, but it certainly happened.
It is well known, and has all been publicly documented, publicly addressed, and publicly apologised for at the highest levels of federal govt.

Every day we march, a little more progress.

Indeed.
Now you've got Seattle barricaded.
Double page spread in my paper today, the headline;

U.S. GOING DOWN IN HISTORY

MOB RULES STREETS IN COWED CITIES,
TRUMP VOWS TO RESPOND

Seattle.

YOU
ARE NOW
ENTERING
FREE GAP HILL

Photos of the barricades.
Barricades in Seattle in what is being called "Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone"

Seattle's police force said it had received reports that the protesters inside the so- called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone were shaking down businesses in the area, demanding they pay a fee to operate.

#####

Apparently there are armed protester guards inside the zone...[the cops all left]...at checkpoints.
The woman in charge of Seattle said on my tv tonight with a smirk, something about having a "Summer of Love".

*

Portland, Oregon, was expected to be the next area targeted for an autonomous zone. But police fear extreme protesters will quickly adopt the idea in other cities amid reluctance of officers to use force.

Trump isn’t prone to remaining silent, and don’t expect him to be a healer. Remember, the reality TV president once proposed producing a season of “The Apprentice” that would pit white contestants against black contestants.

Trump said on his own syndicated radio show in 2005 that although the idea was “fairly controversial,” he wanted to host “a team of successful African-Americans versus a team of successful whites. Whether people like that idea or not, it is somewhat reflective of our very vicious world.”

In early 2016, several months before Trump was elected president, BuzzFeed News unearthed an audio recording of an interview Trump conducted with radio and TV host Howard Stern in which he also explored the possibility of airing white-against-black competition on “The Apprentice.”

“On ‘The Apprentice’ there was a concept, OK, thrown out by some person, nine blacks against nine whites,” Trump said. “And it would be nine blacks against nine whites, all highly educated, very smart, strong, beautiful. Do you like it?”

I’m sure kidcarter8 would have.

What I mean when I say Fox News lies:

Got an example like that from the so-called liberal main stream media, Captain?

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/fox-news-runs-digitally-altered-images-in-coverage-of-seattles-protests-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone/?amp=1&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=article_inset_1.1&__twitter_impression=true

Fox News published digitally altered and misleading photos on stories about Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in what photojournalism experts called a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.

Both sides do it my ass.

Fuck off, Captain.

Very good read.

You're welcome.

I was quite struck by it, as well as by the more recent piece by the retired police chief.

There is thought-provoking stuff out there.

If only some of those who need to read it would... and if some of those were capable of thinking after reading. Or perhaps I should wish for them to have feelings/empathy.
