The decision in Bostock v Clayton County, GA LGBT workplace case:
https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/19pdf/17-1618_hfci.pdf

This is big. And the 6-3 decision makes it look a lot stronger than the all too common 5-4 results.

It included two other cases, one of which had not previously been consolidated into the case, but heard separately:
Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda, R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The latter two had been decided one way, while the 11th Circuit had decided the other way, for the defendant.

President Donald Trump is coming to town this week for a campaign rally.

It will be his first since such events were suspended earlier this year because of the COVID-19 shutdown.

We don’t know why he chose Tulsa, but we can’t see any way that his visit will be good for the city.

Proactive Police Union

https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/06/14/california-largest-police-unions-unveil-reform-plan-in-joint-statement/

SAN JOSE — In what could signal a major shift in law-enforcement attitudes toward longstanding complaints about its use of violence, California’s largest police unions called Sunday for a reform agenda aimed at lessening the use of force, increasing accountability and rooting out racist police officers.

In full-page ads in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, the Mercury News and the East Bay Times, the San Jose Police Officers Association, the San Francisco Police Officers Association and the Los Angeles Police Protective League announced the national reform proposal after weeks of protests and marches against police violence, even as new deaths have happened at the hands of police.

In Atlanta, police department officials announced Sunday that an officer had been fired over the fatal shooting Friday of Rayshard Brooks, 27, outside a Wendy’s restaurant, the latest flashpoint in a nationwide upheaval over police violence. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Saturday that she had accepted the resignation of Police Chief Erika Shields; the officer who shot Brooks was fired hours later.

“No words can convey our collective disgust and sorrow for the murder of George Floyd,” the unions said in the advertisement. “We have an obligation as a profession and as human beings to express our sorrow by taking action.”

Vestigial.

Great vocabulary. Get that one while contemplating your navel? Or sitting too long on your tailbone?

Be well.

If you say so.

Meanwhile, if you're still a lawyer, or even if you've hung up your briefcase, any thoughts on this?

Whatever happened to the idea that police could shoot in a situation "Not to kill"?  These people are Trained to shoot, presumably, to hit what they are aiming at and should have some level of
marksmanship.  If someone is fleeing, and in this case with really nowhere to go or hide, isn't it perhaps possible to wing 'em in the thigh or shoulder?

The question is why should law enforcement be shooting a deadly weapon at any part of a human being who is not guilty of lethal violence. Any bullet wound can maim or kill - people can bleed out from legs, as well as torsos.  Discharging a firearm in any urban setting in extremely dangerous.  We need to stop thinking armed paramilitaries are the answer to most social problems, period.
