Republican congressman who just announced he has the coronavirus refused to wear a face mask on the House floor

Rep. Tom Rice, a South Carolina Republican, announced on Monday that he, his wife, and his son had been infected with the coronavirus.

But just two weeks ago, Rice appeared on the House floor in Washington without a face covering.

The conservative congressman said he was able to maintain 6 feet of distance from everyone on Capitol Hill and didn't need to wear a mask.

Rice said he came down with relatively mild symptoms of the virus on June 7 and that his son suffered from "a high fever and really bad cough."

OTOH, maybe the IHME prediction is reasonable.

France reverses ban on use of chokehold after police protests

They accused the government of failing to understand the daily dangers they face.

If Mr Brooks had been put in a choke hold/head lock, maybe he wouldn't have broken free, and would still be alive today.

Coronavirus USA.

I saw on my tv Americans protesting against lockdowns, one placard reading "Better to live in risky freedom, than to live in communist lockdown"...which seemed to be the theme of the protests in more than one place.

Huge numbers of population in America made/make social distancing near impossible.
Covid-19 ultra contagious.

Trump maybe could be blamed for some of it, but so could WHO and China, who seemed to know about it months before the rest of the world did.

The only way to beat the virus is to make it homeless.

Not so many population in NZ and Australia, social distancing much easier.
Australia's international borders were closed [should've been done sooner], people flying in locked up in hotels for 14 days.
State borders closed.
Pubs, clubs, stores 'all' closed [no customers anyway, everyone isolating at home], except supermarkets.
'Everyone' working from home, including valuable radio and tv hosts...others social distancing.
Not allowed to leave one's home without a 'valid reason'...no travel allowed except to/from work.
'All' the schools closed...only kids of emergency workers and people who absolutely could not stay home could attend.
Learning done online, live classes with usual teacher.

Eventually virus was made homeless, no new cases each day achieved, things now slowly being opened up, and the positive case numbers increasing...a few every day, acceptable level trade off for the 'economy'.

What can be done in America, I don't know.
American people don't seem to want to rush inside their homes, lock the door, and put a big sign on their door "GO AWAY!"
American people have to get to work, on crowded public transport...9 people on a bus and 11 in a train carriage simply won't work.
2 in an elevator in skyscrapers, wait 3 hours to get from building entry to office.

Lots of tut-tutting from the Trumpists here about the CHAZ/CHOP in Seattle when in the news today there is a shooting by militia members in New Mexico, the Proud Boys are causing violence at protests, and its now confirmed by prosecutors that the suspect for the killings of two policemen in the Bay Area during protests was a right-wing Boogaloo member.

Disgusting.

Oddly enough, I don't believe you'd have posted the story had Williams called it a murder.

The ME said it was a homicide. The mayor called it a murder. A police higher up (the sheriff) called it justified.

I think it's not justified as nobody was in danger. But I wasn't there, I am not a criminal lawyer or judge, and I am sure other folks will decide it.

I asked all along what police protocols are

We don't know.  The mayor of a city does not always know.

Sheriff usually does

Lawful, but awful best describes it.

First of all, anyone come on tv in that jacket has no credibility and what’s worsenthe situation he described left out one important detail... THERE WERE TWO COPS! That bullshit about he could have been incapacitated and his weapon taken or have his head stomped is total bullshit.

He’s a cop and he’s toeing the thin Blue Line.

Y’all love trotting out your Stephens.

All skinfolk ain’t kinfolk, ya dig?

Australian $50 notes printed with Chinese characters spark wild 'invasion currency' conspiracy theories

Businesses have been warned to be on the look out for counterfeit $50 notes with Chinese writing printed on them.
Two of the fake Australian $50 notes were used over the weekend at stores in the town of Murwillumbah, northern New South Wales.

The notes have blue and white Chinese characters printed over the clear window in the corner.

Made of paper, not plastic.

Could be 'invasion money' of the future though...Australia needs nukes, now. A few subs would do, just to keep the enemy guessing.

Lawful, but awful best describes it.

"We don't know" was where you should have left it. This Sheriff is from a county 160 miles east of Atlanta and might well not know, either.

But we do know, Kid, and you would too had you bothered to look at it instead of pretending knowledge after admitting none.

"Employees will only use that force, which is reasonable and necessary to affect an arrest, prevent an escape, necessarily restrict the movement of a prisoner, defend the officer or another from physical assault, or to accomplish other lawful objectives."
...
"Neck restraints or carotid artery holds are not taught and are not approved for use by the department due to the potential for serious injury or death."

(On deadly force, the manual states an employee may only use it as noted below.)

"1. He or she reasonably believes that the suspect possesses a deadly weapon or any object, device, or instrument which, when used offensively against a person, is likely to or actually does result in serious bodily injury and when he or she reasonably believes that the suspect poses an immediate threat of serious bodily injury to the officer or others; or

2. When there is probable cause to believe that the suspect has committed a crime involving the infliction or threatened infliction of serious physical harm (O.C.G.A. Section 17-4-20) and the employee reasonably believes that the suspect’s escape would create a continuing danger of serious physical harm to any person."

By the time he was shot he presented no immediate threat of serious bodily injury to anybody.

USA Today op-ed re:  mail in voting

Democrats would flood the postal system with unused ballots and open the door for bad actors to manipulate the election.  Widespread voting by mail also risked severely delayed voting results... many states offer bloated rolls that include millions of ineligible voters; tabulation of ballots that takes weeks instead of hours; and with ballot harvesting. substantially increase the risk that ballots are coerced from voters, misdirected or completed fraudulently.  Until states bring their election systems up to date and make them secure, automatic vote by mail will continue to pose significant risks of election fraud, delay and lack of finality

The case is quite unfortunate.  (I will again say)

You seem to have trouble with interpretation.

Sounds like you wish to seriously overcharge this case.  Careful.

No, the GOP would, then would claim the Dems did it.

We have several states already doing mail in ballots and they do not have this problem (yet).
