Flag- burning laws are always the last bullet in a losing arsenal.

They don't have to be.
Burning the flag should be a serious crime. The first bullet in a winning arsenal.

And to hell with Freedom of Speech.

Why should it be a serious crime?

Burning the flag is not words/speech.
The flag represents the nation...burning it, is like burning the nation.

It is speech. Your narrow view of the word notwithstanding, symbolic speech is still considered speech.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._Johnson
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_Protection_Act - The last time Congress did as Trump is suggesting, following the result in Texas vs. Johnson, which President Bush did not care for.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Eichman - The SCOTUS decision immediately following the Flag Protection Act.

In the past, it got through the House and not the Senate. I think currently it would have a hard time getting through either chamber. And I don't think this Court would approve of it, either.

The flag is, itself, a symbol. It is not the country. It is not the Constitution nor is it mentioned in the Constitution, for all that it predates the Constitution.

We do have the Flag Code. Guess how closely it is followed!

Horrible loss yesterday for Arsenal.  Liverpool nil-nil at half.  2 wins from title.

Really?  Doofus.  The prescribed way to dispose of worn and tattered flags is.......Burning.

Go tell it to the US Marines.

That is different from protesters burning the flag in public.

Nowhere does it say anyone was black.  Other than the chief of police.

The president and the governor of Arizona visited a Phoenix mask factory back on May 5th (without masks, of course). The governor, wanting to please Trump, announced that they were opening up.

This is through June 11th.

Their cases have more than doubled since then.

But that's testing, right?! Nope. Deaths on Friday were the 3rd highest ever, all coming after they loosened up their restrictions. I figure the first of those was too close to the loosening to be a result. But the whole stretch since then is substantially higher than before.

In the USA we need to have tolerance of people with other cultures, and with other religions, and with different political views, we are a free nation, and our Constitution protects all of us.

Salute,

Tony V.

Bo --

Mayor of KC is also thinking about some drug decrim....

Mayor Of Kansas City, Mo., Wants To Eliminate Marijuana Offenses

https://www.npr.org/sections/live-updates-protests-for-racial-justice/2020/06/19/880944857/mayor-of-kansas-city-mo-wants-to-eliminate-marijuana-offenses?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=nprblogsliveupdatesprotestsforracialjustice

It's a start.   The present law is enforced very unequally, and mainly lands on you know who.

What control over pot arrests does he have as mayor?

(a) wanting to eliminate them doesn't mean he is exercising personal control, necessarily - it could involve working with the legislature.
(b) or it could be directing the city constabulary to not arrest for it.

And yes, Trump's message is consistent.  But not the content.

"We're going to reduce the deficit!"

"We're going to rebuild our infrastructure!"

"I'm going to be the best president for the gays!"

"Mexico is going to pay for that wall."

"Peace in the Middle East will be easy!"

Consistent.

Uh huh.

Nope

None of that heard last night.  Though Mexico was in fact mentioned.  As was the 212 miles of wall completed.

Terror  attack  in  England...3 people hacked to death in a park.
Libyan national arrested, reportedly.
" known to authorities for 12 months."
25 yr old refugee.

 Tolerance...don't ya just love it?

Good luck "getting the guns" in America.

We have a couple problems, folks.

https://www.technologynetworks.com/immunology/news/mutation-of-coronavirus-is-significantly-increasing-its-ability-to-infect-336067?fbclid=IwAR2FAfVP_AQVkbitDGq2kF9TMIm852L5vxWjjm6nv6QvGG-t4tlRXVmip5E#.Xued9nrVt0c.facebook

That one's from June 10th.

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/06/19/880912184/younger-adults-are-increasingly-testing-positive-for-coronavirus

Previously, the profile for COVID-19 patients has been of older people. Is this going to change for illness and deaths or just for cases? We don't know. But we do know this... Our understanding of what does and does not occur with the virus is changing - for example, we knew that diabetics had a 1 in 10 chance of dying from COVID-19 if they got it. Now we know that COVID-19 can cause the blood sugar spikes we associate with Type 1 diabetes and then kill.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/19/health/teen-death-coronavirus-wellness-partner/index.html - this is about an April case.

More recently, this:
https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/os-ne-coronavirus-pasco-county-boy-coronavirus-20200621-kkq52lhrnbe67k6uytj4yqjlzu-story.html

Quote
As of June 21, nearly 6,000 Florida kids under the age of 18 have been infected with COVID-19 since March 1. About half of them are in the 12-18 age group.

The first teenager (in that age group) died on June 18th.

If more kids are catching it, then it is likely that more will die from it. This is not a matter of increased testing.
