You never admit liability in traffic accidents...it's what insurance companies tell you.
You never apologise, that is an admission of guilt.

Maybe the man didn't know he hit anyone...maybe he diid know.
Maybe he hit someone, maybe he didn't.

That's not why the gun was drawn.

In the movies, when people feel physically threatened, they draw their guns, tell those threatening them to back off, then get in their cars and drive away.

"In the movies..." is movies. In the movies, people come back from the dead more often than in real life. People successfully kill dozens and hundreds of people who are trying to kill them. Using your "logic," there are superheroes flying around in the sky and aliens from space among us, not to mention a few vampires.

"Maybe the man didn't know he hit anyone..." has to be among the lamest things you have ever said. The man stopped the car.

But even if all he knew was there was a loud noise right behind him from somebody thumping on his car, he could see (once he looked) that he at least almost hit her.

When that happens, in civilized society, the driver apologizes. Why? Because the driver is at fault, with or without an admission of guilt, Bambi, and because he owes an apology. (It is true that according to the movies, if you hit somebody while backing up your car and you offer to take care of them in their pain, they may end up becoming an advisor to the president, but like I said, that's the movies!)

Your view of how the law works, how life works, and how people work is so broken it is a wonder you can breathe and eat and type.

Banks

“Damn the torpedoes” is what Farragut said at the Battle of Vicksburg.

I wasn’t playing a game I was making a historical reference about bold action leading to victory.

kNICKS-I USED YOUR TORPEDO REFERENCE AND THEN YOU CHANGED TO MINEFIELD, ITS NOT A BIG DEAL-EITHER WAY IF YOU WANT TO TAKE BOLD ACTION AT SEA I'M JUST SUGGESTING YOU  ASSESS THE RISKS. THE WATER'S COLD AND SHARKS AWAIT IF YOU DO NOT ASSESS ACCURATELY.

Historic voting patterns aren’t reliable metrics in this most “unusual” year.

KNICKS i WAS GIVING YOU HISTORICAL DATA THAT SHOWS WHAT LONG TERM VOTING PATTERNS ARE. AND THEY DON'T DEVIATE THAT MUCH. YOU ARE FREE TO IGNORE THE DATA.

Banks, you never acknowledge I see the world from a different frame of reference.

KNICKS-I RESPECT YOUR DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE AND I ESTIMATED WE ARE IN AGREEMENT ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME. BUT GUESS WHAT-I SEE THINGS THAT YOU DON'T AND I CAN COMMENT ON THEM JUST AS YOU CAN. AND WE CAN DISAGREE. AND WE DISAGREE ON DEM STRATEGY FOR 2020. AND THERE WILL BE TIME TO DISCUSS IT.

Our families live in separate universes within the same world.

My kids grew up immersed in the world of politics. They used to hand out campaign swag and say, “Vote for my Mommy!”

My wife is on the board of the ACLU-DC so she’s still up front with the activism.

In the 90s when I was with Sojourners my family would go on the road with me on organizing trips, to conferences and festivals.

Last month my son was elected to the Actors’ Equity Association’s National Council representing actors and stage managers across the country and he is an organizer with a GOTV campaign in Milwaukee.

My daughter is a MSW with DC Child and Family Services and is a fierce advocate for kids in the system.

My sister says we have continued in the family business as our parents were extremely active in leadership roles with LI NAACP throughput our childhood and our Mom won multiple national awards for the branch’s newsletter.

I still have good friends and contacts on the Hill and in media so I don’t make up shit.

I think I’m a little closer to what’s happening on the ground than most.

KNICKS ALL THE ABOVE IS VERY COMMENDABLE AND YOU SHOULD BE RIGHTFULLY PROUD OF YOUR WONDERFUL AND ACCOMPLISHED FAMILY. BUT SEE THE COMMENT ABOVE RE YOUNG PEOPLE VOTING VS OLDER PEOPLE AND SMALL SAMPLE SIZE

I ALSO THINK NYC, DC, BOSTON PHILLY SF CHI ETC IS NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENTATIVE OF LESS URBAN AREAS OF THIS COUNTRY.

YOUR PERSPECTIVE MAY NOT BE ENTIRELY REPRESENTVE OF THE VAST MAJORITY OF THIS COUNTRY. I JUST WOULD NOT DEDUCE TOO MUCH TOO QUICKLY FROM PEOPLE PISSED MOSTLY ABOUT GETTING SICK, BEING QUARANTINED SEEING FRIENDS AND LOVED ONE DIE, AND LOSING THEIR JOBS

AND I WONDER IF THE MORAL OUTRAGE OVER POLICE ABUSES/RACSIM/FLOYD'S MURDER WOULD HAVE BEEN AS PRONOUNCED WITH A LESS OUTRAGED POPULACE

Things are happening and us geezers need to get on board to do the work or at the very least get out the way.

I AGREE THAT THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THE NEXT GENERATION AND WE'RE OLD BUT OUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE AND PERSPECTIVES STILL COUNTS AND LESSONS CAN STILL BE LEARNED AND FROM BOTH ENDS

Wonder if she still cares about other people

Still?

What the fuck do you mean "still?!" She didn't care about the teen who got hit. Did you hear her ask if the kid was all right?!

There is zero human compassion in that woman's behavior.

And in the vast majority of movies, when one person yells at another, nobody pulls out a gun.

And if one does, then the other does, and they start shooting.

Even your movie analogy is broken.

Ahh yes, the "In the movies" defense.  So if we reverse the gun holders and a black woman pulled her gun on the unarmed white woman in that scenario that would be fine then, right?

Everything exactly the same?
Everything.
Yes, all fine.

Except that in real life, if the black woman does that the police kill her or claim she hung herself in prison. Or gets thrown in prison for a long time.

So what do you watch now?

skynews.com.au

The 'heavy hitters' new line-up starts on Monday. [ex-no1 radio host on 4 nights a week for one hour a night.] :)
Check in on Fox News sometimes...maybe twice a week, or more, just to see what's happening.

She told the Black woman she cared about her.
I wouldn't have been talking with her at all...not because she was Black, but because she was abusive...and because she was "other people".
There's no talking with "other people" today.
"Other people" are the enemy...maybe she's learnt that now, too late.

White people would've been better off staying home, shopping online and having everything delivered.
Now look what's happened to them...and they didn't even shoot anyone.

I've looked at other news websites in the past, easy to see what they were selling.
msn.com I look at now every day.
I read other news websites locally and abroad sometimes...nothing much ever changes.

Too funny Qasim Rashid calling the most diverse country in history racist and xenophobic. Sexist, violent, homophobic, and promoting child sex?

The United States of America is not the most ethnically diverse country in history.

The United States of America is not the most culturally diverse country in history.

The United States of America is not the most religiously diverse country in history.

The United States of America is not the most linguistically diverse country in history.

And the United States of America is not the most racially diverse country in history.

"where's a MAGA hat on Fox"

MAGA hats are everywhere on Fox.

I think MAGA hats are required and part of the Fox News dress code.

Fair and Balanced.

Indeed.
Just balancing the scales.
Amazing! That's just what Fox News says!

True though.

If you ignore that its watchers come out knowing less truth than people who watch nothing.

IOW, no, not even close to true.

Just went to Fox News;
and saw this;

https://www.foxnews.com/us/florida-14-percent-coronavirus-positivity-rate

Florida reports 14 percent coronavirus positivity rate, Miami-Dade and Broward County reach record high level of cases

Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber says residents are "not listening" as numbers soared to 2,418 new cases in his city.

That's something new and factual I've learnt.

You do understand that those of us who live here do not have the experiences that you think are commonplace, don't you?

That we go out. We talk to "other people" without incident. We speak up and do not threaten. We disagree and people don't point guns at us, nor do we point guns at them.

We help others and they are grateful. We allow others to help us and are appreciative.

Threatening with a weapon is illegal. Threatening with a gun because somebody is angry you hit them with your car is dumb.

She drew the gun because she was being advanced at physically by an angry woman/group.
I say self defence. "Don't verbally abuse someone and walk aggressively towards them and you won't have a gun pulled on you".
The law says she did wrong.
It was a dumb move to get out of the car.
We'll just have to disagree.

And maybe the national garden needs some left-wing fascists,  like FDR?

And  Eisenhower, well known LW fascist who hatched crazy conspiracy theories about the "military industrial complex" and such.
The three names standing out in Trump's proposed garden of greats for me were Graham, Serra and Scalia. The first because of the danger of recency bias. A few years ago, I was wandering.Central Park, killing time, when I saw the statue of Fitz-Greene Halleck. Now, while I imagine the reaction of most people to a statue of Halleck would be "who the fuck was Fitz-Greene Halleck?" For the rest of us I think the reaction would be, "Why?" If you immortalize someone shortly after their deaths you wind up with a lot of statues of people no one has heard about. And while sending people scurrying to Google has a benefit in 30 years people will not only not know who he was, they will not find him all that impactful to history.

Serra points out a second issue. He was an important historical figure, even if you have to look him up - I crawled under the alter at the Mission church in Monterey to look at his relics - but there is a great deal of historical debate about the impact he had, and there is a segment of the population that views his impact as negative. And not just a fringe group. You are giving government imprimatur to one version of his legacy, but how we view history and historical figures changes over time.

Finally, Scalia? That is a blatantly political choice made solely to appeal to the base of the party in power. There are dozens of justices - especially Chiefs - more historically important than he was. But Reps put up Scalia, Dems enshrine RBG and Brennan, Reps put up a statue of Rehnquist, Dems counter with Marshall and Chief Justice Obama. The only way the concept works is if politics is out of it.
