Here is an interesting counter-point to the Harpers letter.  Some of the signatories are expressing dismay about signing the letter.

Some good points there,  and I'm not happy about Rowling signing on so she can blow smoke over her own missteps in the realm of Ignorance Tweeting.   This paragraph....

Quote
Perhaps more than anything else, it has struck many people as disingenuous to advocate for open discourse by complaining that one's public tweets on a public platform are being publicly disagreed with...

...is mostly right on,  except for skipping past the more severe cases of massive dogpiles,  where people aren't respectfully disagreed with,  but shunned,  vilified, and threatened in a manner that seems more Trumpian, more about driving them into the wasteland than giving real and useful criticism.   I think that's the phenomenon that brought people like Pinker and Chomsky with their pens.

Also,  the article had a sort of omniscient sheen to it that was reflected in its title --

Here's What You Need to Know About That Harper's Letter....

Not "here's what I think is important to know... "  The author has already determined what I need to know.   That phrasing is an intellectually smothering one IMO.   It is exactly what bright folks like Chomsky dislike,  and it's way too common in a lot of electronic media.

Birx says U.S. underestimated community spread of coronavirus, spurred by young people

And understandably so.

New strain seems to like the younger folk - and thankfully also seems somewhat weaker.

Of course it would be helpful to see the numbers for the 18 and under sect - since that is the next big decision - schooling.

Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told CNN, "There were literally no health precautions to speak of as thousands looted, rioted, and protested in the streets and the media reported that it did not lead to a rise in coronavirus cases. Meanwhile, the President's rally was 18 days ago, all attendees had their temperature checked, everyone was provided a mask, and there was plenty of hand sanitizer available for all. It's obvious that the media's concern about large gatherings begins and ends with Trump rallies

No evidence to support your latter point and at least one piece of research claiming it is neither weaker nor stronger.

Also, unclear on your first point vs. that the bars, beaches, and partying is why younger people are getting it.

"Everyone was provided with a mask," as they sat crammed together with the campaign having removed the signs on seats to cause spacing out, and they overwhelmingly sat there without masks and were screaming!

I don't know who is the bigger asshole --> Murtaugh for uttering that crap or you for quoting it like gospel.

And the reason the media said the protests didn't cause the spikes is (a) as previously noted the protesters mostly wore masks and (b) THE RESEARCH.

Oh, yeah, that whole science thing, again. You really hate it, don't you, Kid?! Facts. Damned stubborn things.

99% are perfectly fine, said the president.

Sounds like just the thing Kidcarter8, our chief resident sadistic fuckwad, wants to subject our children to in mass.

I'd need access to the site code to install a mod which would allow it and I am pretty sure our fearless owner won't let me do it.

You could try downloading the video and then attaching it, but I doubt that would do it. (Otherwise, I would have done it when I posted that link.)
