ScoMo and Donald spoke by phone yesterday...compared notes on managing Covid-19 and the need to safely re-open their economies.

Also spoke about boosting Australia's defence capability ..'amid increasing global uncertainty'.

Former Aussie general...the  other day was urging nuclear power and nuclear weapons.
At last.

One hospital in Hidalgo County was saying that their ICU was full.  So an ICU bed/care was only opened when someone died.

Unbelievable that the virus was allowed to rampage uncontrolled across the US.
In terms of health, safety, economy a strong 2 month lockdown and public mask wearing were all that was needed, and people's lives could have gradually returned to normal.

This is complete nonsense.  Deadly nonsense.  We know how to stop transmission of a respiratory virus.  Such a pathetic and historic failure.  Trump will go down as infamously inept and callously chaotic.   W Bush and Donald Trump, that's what the modern GOP has become.  Extremely incompetent and dangerous.

Quote
John Bolton wrote Trump "despised" both Bush presidents, and people familiar with the conversations say Trump has lambasted George W. Bush as "stupid."

Quite a competition.

Two questions

Did they discuss beachfront property?

Who the fuck would trust you people with nukes?

Iran is one thing, but you guys are all fucked up.

Wouldn't be allowed to build there today.

Australia needs nukes...must be allowed to have them.
China is on the 'warpath'.

You think China is going to attack Oz?
Geez.  You might want to get an MRI to find what is causing all your fears and stupid ideas.  It might be treatable.

In any case, Australia is under the US and UK nuclear umbrellas.

China more likely to just slowly buy up your country.
But the PRC has branched out and now gets plenty of raw materials from South America and Africa.

Hey Bart, any thoughts on the Montana senate race between incumbent Sen. Daines and his Democratic opponent, Gov. Steve Bullock?

If Trump tanks as anticipated he could bring down a lot of GOPers with him.  It's possible that Trump, a NY libertine, was really a Dem plant the whole time ...

But seriously, any chance for a Dem pick up there, or never mind the Bullock?

Not anymore buying up much...and the People want the govt to reclaim the things China has bought already.
China now seems hated by much of the population...after what it's said and done recently.

Foreign affairs makes no difference if humankind is nearly wiped out by the virus. We are all in this together. Open schools to help the economy, what! Wagging the dog. Clearly the prez cannot cope with the pandemic.

Farewell to a true American hero. I’m blessed to have known him. The nation is blessed to have had him.

https://twitter.com/repjohnlewis/status/1011991303599607808?s=21

He was a hero.

And a real good man.

2020 keeps on getting worse....

Glad for his merciful release.  Pancreatic cancer is extreme misery.

He was an American mahatma - a great soul.

Have not followed Montana closely.   I know Bullock's prez primary run was to get some exposure, warm up for the Senate contest.   He's a smart guy, I wish him well.   Montanans seem fairly free thinking,  in the sense of not being terribly party-centered.   And it's full of Hollywood liberals (JK)...

China now seems hated by much of the population...after what it's said and done recently.

Boo & hoo.
Better get some nukes.

Historically expanding powers overpay for foreign assets since they're new to the game, get ripped off by the locals, are flush with cash so aren't too careful, etc.
And for many Chinese companies, they have state backing  and cheap loans and loan forgiveness which likely precludes caution.  Often China has a long term plan and these are often strategic national assets, even if nominally belongng to a company.

But, to engage in a little stereotyping, the Chinese are usually shrewd and careful with money.  (they will proudly call themselves the Jews of the East, and it's hard to persuade them that a positive stereotype just keep alive the associated negative stereotype).

I'd be interested in seeing some evaluation of their overseas purchases.
Probably fluctuates according to gov't policy and cheap loans (also gov't policy, as the major banks here are all gov't owned).

Eloquent and oozing sincerity.

I wonder what the president will tweet tomorrow.
