The U.S. has agreed to pay Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech  nearly $2 billion to secure 100 million doses of their experimental Covid-19 vaccine to provide to Americans free of charge.

Under the $1.95 billion agreement, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Defense Department will receive 100 million doses of the vaccine should it be cleared by regulators, and can also acquire an additional 500 million doses. The vaccine, which has shown promising preliminary results in small groups of patients, is set to enter late-stage testing this month.
Socialist cocksuckers.  Right, Red?
Just the opposite.
The opposite?
If it was socialism the government would own the production of the vaccine.
Instead the government is buying the vaccine from a private producer using tax revenues from its citizens to improve their lives. This represents the consent of the governed to let government act for them. This is what democracies do in a capitalist society.

Hard to tell the truth when you don't have the foggiest what it is and cannot bring yourself to admit it, Ms. McEnany.

Quote
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump said he doesn't know of a time he's taken more than one coronavirus test in a day, directly contradicting his press secretary in the first question of his press briefing Tuesday.

"I don't know about more than one," Trump responded to a reporter who asked why he was tested more than once a day. "I do probably on average a test every two days, three days, and I don't know of any time I've taken two in one day, but I could see that happening."
Speaking during a morning briefing just hours earlier, press secretary Kayleigh McEneny described Trump as the "most tested man in America" who doesn't risk spreading the virus to others.
"He's tested more than anyone, multiple times a day," she said. "And we believe that he's acting appropriately."

Clearly misspoke - and she would admit it

Happens to the best - even C J Cregg one time.

CJ never misspoke.

She is a fictional character.

Ah.  So that's your definition of socialism.  This time.  I'll keep this in mind, "the consent of the governed" thing, the next time you call a (Democratic) Congress and/or a (Democratic) President  "socialist cocksuckers."

When Red agrees with spending taxpayer money it's "consent of the governed"; when he disagrees it's "socialist cocksuckers".   That'll be easy to remember.

Existing-home sales exploded higher in June as home buyers took advantage of record-low mortgage rates and fled city centers beset with anti-police protests, riots, looting, crime, shootings, stay-at-home orders, shuttered businesses, closed schools, and a loss of amenities such as restaurants, theaters, and museums.

It’s almost like some moronic cabal tanked the economy with an endless stream of looting and terrible policies so the only tool left from keeping the ship from going under was lowering interest rates to zero or there about.

The economy was in recession before cases of Covid-19 were reported here.

Trump sucks so bad my recent refi bought me a motor home to vacation in without raising my payment.

That's helpful.  My dictionary says socialism can be either government ownership of the means of production OR government regulation of.  If that latter, then every modern democracy has some socialism.  And we've been socialist in that sense, since the Hoover administration ended.

Someone should ask Trump to explain why 5 months into the epidemic things are getting worse.

Also, any bets on how long this new reasonable, and reasonably honest, Trump lasts ... ?

Next week on "Word Pedant," I explore the definitions of fascism.

Can you also explore “cult”, “fraud”, and “scam” in future episodes?

The base rate has dropped another .1 since I closed. I’ll probably shop the loan again in September, once republicans get truly desperate and numbers as low as 2.3 and 2.2 start cropping up.

"We will NOT shrink from our duty!"

-  Chad Wolf, re:  Portland issue

Wolf in an interview on Fox said his forces are making “proactive arrests” in Portland.

Tell me a way to interpret that statement that doesn’t point to it being a blatantly unconstitutional abuse.

Those arrested have made moves on officers or on the federal property

Assuming those "made moves" are illegal and not just people protesting (and to be clear, you have no idea if what you say is true) then this wouldn't be "proactive" would it? It would be an arrest of someone doing something against the law.

So I'm still asking you to interpret that statement in a way that doesn't point to an obviously unconstitutional arrest.

If you have information that contradicts this let us know.

Sure:

Cline says "you're probably talking about the van," and goes on to give the government's account of what happened.

The agents, Cline says, were interested in the man in the video because, earlier, they'd seen him "in a crowd and in an area" where someone ELSE was aiming a laser at the eyes of officers.

I don’t know if shining a laser at someone is a federal crime.

It doesn’t matter.

The police do not have probable cause to arrest you just because you are standing near someone else who may have committed a crime.

Cline goes on to say that the agents followed the man in the video—whom they had no basis to arrest—to a calmer location, away from the courthouse, because they wanted to question him.

So far as the Fourth Amendment goes, if that’s all they’d actually done, there wouldn’t be an issue. The police are allowed to walk up to you and question you, in a “consensual” encounter, so long as a reasonable person in your shoes would think it's ok for you to walk away.

Maybe these agents planned to execute one of those “consensual” encounters, maybe not. But in any event, Cline admits—and the video is clear—that they did something very different: they forcibly removed the man from the scene.

1. Cline admits the agents NEVER had probable cause to arrest this person. That’s why they let him go. They didn't have probable cause when the lawyers showed up. They didn't have probable cause when they put the man in the van. They never had it. And they aren't saying they did.

2. This man was arrested.

Full thread here:

https://twitter.com/AndrewMCrespo/status/1285738001004482561

And this describes similar incidents, not a one-off:

https://www.opb.org/news/article/federal-law-enforcement-unmarked-vehicles-portland-protesters/

Pettibone and O’Shea both said they couldn’t think of anything they might have done to end up targeted by law enforcement. They attend protests regularly but they said they aren’t “instigators.” They don’t spray paint buildings, shine laser pointers at officers or do anything else other than attend protests, which law enforcement have regularly deemed “unlawful assemblies.”

...

Pettibone said he was put into a cell. Soon after, two officers came in to read him his Miranda rights. They didn’t tell him why he was being arrested. He said they asked him if he wanted to waive his rights and answer some questions, but Pettibone declined and said he wanted a lawyer. The interview was terminated, and about 90 minutes later he was released. He said he did not receive any paperwork, citation or record of his arrest.

“I just happened to be wearing black on a sidewalk in downtown Portland at the time,” Pettibone said. “And that apparently is grounds for detaining me.”

So if these are the "proactive arrests" Wolf is talking about, it is confirmation that he is describing unconstitutional police action.

I fear Oilcan's next episode of "Word Pedant" is being upstaged by Elba links to current events.

I find it ironically amusing that Trump and his "GOP" is now attacking Biden as soft on crime and urban unrest, where earlier the "GOP" wanted to attack Biden as an overzealous and militant co-author of the VCC Act of 1994.
