AMERICAN CARNAGE

But GOP divisions have also been in the spotlight after several senators trashed their own party's package, which was unveiled Monday. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) called the bill a "mess," while Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) argued that the negotiations were being carried out by "two big government Democrats."

McConnell, asked why a sizable portion of his conference is opposed to another bill, noted the growing size of the country's debt after Congress has already appropriated nearly $3 trillion in the previous four coronavirus bills.

Schools closures in spring were linked to reductions in Covid-19 cases and deaths, study says

"Let's go!"

Indeed.

However, the researchers note their findings can not necessarily apply to current debates around reopening schools since the conditions in the spring -- when fewer people may have been wearing masks and social distancing -- differ from now.

For instance, "it is unclear how COVID-19 spread would be affected if schools remained open while states enacted other policies to restrict movement," the researchers wrote in the study. "It is possible school-related spread may be mitigated with infection-control interventions recommended by the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics, including frequent handwashing, universal mask policies, physical distancing measures, and increased sanitation procedures."

Key word: possible.

You're prepared to bet the lives of the children and teachers, as well as their families, that it will be happen, even as the president has decided it is too dangerous to hold a substantial convention and too dangerous to vote.

That makes sooooooo much sense.

I will ask you, again: how many children's deaths is this worth to you, Kid? How many teacher's deaths is this worth to you?!

Because that's the gamble you are asking them to make on your behalf - that the growth in economy is worth a certain number of deaths, but not more than that number.

Its been two weeks since trump announced he’d reveal the republicans’ health care plan in two weeks.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5f24788bc5b6a34284baa79d

It must be around somewhere.

Republicans wouldn’t perpetrate another complete hoax, would they?

I can’t wait to review the plan...

Little Sir Echo echoes ignorance.
No adult has been infected ANYWHERE by a child.
And children are not infected by other children.
Science( the usual fall back of Sir Echo, the dumb, )puts it this way;

Now, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending K-12 schools reopen this fall, saying the health risks should be weighed against the detriment of being kept home—which disproportionately impacts low-income and minority children and those with disabilities who may rely more on programs like school lunch and after-school care. When those children are kept from school, their grades grades slip, mental and physical health suffers, key times to socialize are lost, and many are falling behind on their routine vaccines.

Kids are more at risk by NOT going to school.

Look at all the people playing the race card today.
Some with good reason, most with no good reason.

Oh? And what careful piece of unbiased research supports that declaration?

That's what happens when arrogant, selfish, disrespectful people lie to their mothers, lie to the govt, put the lives of thousands of other people at risk, then whip out the race card when discovered.

There are many more white people doing it than PoC, Bambi. Many of them are in our government.

There’s no way to discern “with good reason” from “no good reason” when one is stuck under the table. It makes certain posters’ ramblings quite muddled.

Indeed.

Case in point.

Yes there is a way.
"With good reason" is clearly some of the obvious racism P of C are subjected to in America, detailed in this forum.

"With no good reason" is a woman treated as equal, given a nice wedding, but is crying 'racist' because she was told off by a white woman for being rude to the white woman's staff, and little girl.
Also because the Head lady told her No when she was acting like a spoilt brat demanding things she had no right to demand, given her place in the pecking order.

"With no good reason"  is the case of the 3 women who lied to their mothers etc.
One mother, who seems like a nice lady, was defending her daughter, thinking her daughter was somewhere else as that's where her daughter had told her she was going. Made a fool of her mother too.
Then, instead of confessing, apologising profusely, assisting health officials with tracing etc,  they played the race card.

Boy, are you a fool. I thought you only played one on TV.

The CDC offered a set of guidelines. The president rejected them. The Director of the CDC said he was sticking by them, then he changed them.

There's no mystery here, Ward. The changes were not about science. They were about power politics. Trump wants the schools open, regardless of safety of the children OR THE TEACHERS and STAFF.

You claim that no adult has ever been infected by a child. Further, no kid has been infected by another kid.

I posted a story about this study about a week and a half ago:
https://www.sciencealert.com/older-children-transmit-covid-19-as-much-as-adults-do-new-evidence-suggests

Quote
households with older children (index patients of 10–19 years) had the highest rate of infection spread to household contacts, with 18.6 percent of household contacts later showing the infection.

By contrast, young children (index patients 0–9 years of age) seemed to confer the least amount of spread of the virus, with just 5.3 percent of household contacts contracting the infection, which is less than half of the 11.8 percent average of all age groups (most of whom represent adults).

The kids 10-19 spread the disease as much as adults do.

The kids under 10 seem not to, but "young children (index patients 0–9 years of age) seemed to confer the least amount of spread of the virus, with just 5.3 percent of household contacts contracting the infection, which is less than half of the 11.8 percent average of all age groups (most of whom represent adults)."

Not "not at all," as you claim. LESS.

And there is this more recent piece that you ignore because it does not suit your position:
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2768952

Quote
Our analyses suggest children younger than 5 years with mild to moderate COVID-19 have high amounts of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in their nasopharynx compared with older children and adults. Our study is limited to detection of viral nucleic acid, rather than infectious virus, although SARS-CoV-2 pediatric studies reported a correlation between higher nucleic acid levels and the ability to culture infectious virus.5 Thus, young children can potentially be important drivers of SARS-CoV-2 spread in the general population, as has been demonstrated with respiratory syncytial virus, where children with high viral loads are more likely to transmit.6 Behavioral habits of young children and close quarters in school and day care settings raise concern for SARS-CoV-2 amplification in this population as public health restrictions are eased. In addition to public health implications, this population will be important for targeting immunization efforts as SARS-CoV-2 vaccines become available.

About the first study:
Quote
"I fear that there has been this sense that kids just won't get infected or don't get infected in the same way as adults and that, therefore, they're almost like a bubbled population," infectious diseases researcher Michael Osterholm from the University of Minnesota, who wasn't involved with the study, told The New York Times.

"There will be transmission. What we have to do is accept that now and include that in our plans."

Sir Echo the Dumb will take any such insult from you as a compliment, Ward. As you noted, I rely on science. You rely on reworked, warmed over political policy.

Nothing new.

Let's try this again, jerk.

What evidence do you have that what you describe happens MORE OFTEN than acts of racism agains PoC?!

Not a story of a singular incident that, when compared to killings by police, uneven sentencing, refusaed housing opportunities, and denial of job interviews without cause are pimples.

EVIDENCE.

It must be the demon semen and alien DNA that is infecting all the children causing camps and daycares to close down with infection rates that make prisons, meat packing plants, and fulfillment centers feel like they got off easy.

You’re still too dumb to find real news, red. It’s hindering your ability to contribute constructively to this conversation.

"The best available evidence indicates that COVID-19 poses relatively low risks to school-aged children," the guidelines read.

I will ask you the same question I asked Kid.

How many school children are you prepared to sacrifice on the altar of reopening schools?

How many teachers and staff are you prepared to sacrifice?

Another repost:
Quote
On July 16, the state had a total of 23,170 children ages 17 and under who had tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Florida Department of Health. By July 24, that number jumped to 31,150.
That's a 34% increase in new cases among children in eight days.

And more children in Florida are requiring hospitalization. As of July 16, 246 children had been hospitalized with coronavirus. By July 24, that number had jumped to 303.

There can't and won't be sufficient proper safeguards, Ward. You cannot run an elementary school the way you do an office or a factory. They don't do "social distancing." They are even harder to keep masks on properly than a gathering of Republican Officials (though I grant it's close). They wipe their noses and their hands on everything.

And the teacher to student ratio is not small enough to even begin to provide the logistical support to make something close to adequate happen.

If it isn't in the class, it's on the bus to and from or the walk to and from.

"And?" asks the asinine one.

And that tells us that children are more vulnerable than you would like to believe. We already went through the long term hazards posed by the virus. Now you're saying you don't give a damn how sick the kids get, so long as you can have them back in school.

You are one sick puppy.

Turns out, you have never set foot in an elementary school as an adult. Nor been on a school bus.

That makes a lot of sense.
