In short, stripped “of any pretense of governing philosophy, a political party will default to being controlled by those who shout the loudest and are unhindered by any semblance of normalcy”. The first casualty is the truth. “Large elements of the Republican party have made a collective decision that there is no objective truth” and that a cause or simple access to power is more important.

Rather than saying the sky is green, the new strategy is “to build a world in which the sky is in fact green. Then everyone who says it is blue is clearly a liar.” Sadly, it has worked. Stevens notes that once “there is no challenge to the craziest of ideas that have no basis in fact, it is easy for Trump to take one small bit of truth and spin it into an elaborate fantasy.”

“To willingly follow a coward against your own values and to put your own power above the good of the nation is to become a coward.” People know better – including Republican members of Congress – but will not speak. Yet Stevens recalls that the “story of Faust is not just that Mephistopheles takes your soul, he also doesn’t deliver on what he promised.”

The remedy is simple. “You can always say no. I so wish Republican leaders would try it”.

Yes. All Trump supporters are cowards

White folks losing their minds...

Agreed. Not cool what's happening in Germany. Meanwhile, here in America we have
Black folks embracing firing someone on the basis of race.

Yeah.

Totally the same. Totally.

Positively Pavlovian.

And I didn't argue they were "the same". That's an inference that you made, but nothing I implied.
The parallel is the zeal with which the ignorance is purveyed.
Fair-minded individuals can see that.

If it's a Black women's dating site,  what's a White woman doing  there, seemingly 'hiding' ?

Ask the black woman that hired her. Oh, wait. She answered that.

Uno, you are painting some reader responses (blackfishing charges)  as if these are probative of black views on hiring practices.   But the article doesn't seem to support that.   Some readers felt the white writer was not disclosing her identity and therefore tacitly presenting some of her work as a black perspective.   I think it's quite a leap from that request for transparency on writing staff to "we believe in racial discrimination."

But then again, we have twits like this, taking to the airwaves and presenting their conspiracy theories:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/29/sport/michael-porter-jr-coronavirus-nba-basketball-spt-intl/

I wouldn't worry too much what one 22 year old NBA bench player thinks.
He managed one year of college as a student athlete.
I'm sure a lot of young people feel indestructible and have hormones telling them to socialize and seek sex partners.  And a lot are misinformed.

Meanwhile a little population control would be a good thing.  Though not by coronavirus death.  I keep worldometer open on my computer all day long.  And now and then I scroll down a few countries and try to guess the population (off the screen to the far right).  Nigeria has over 200M people.  Mexico 130M.  Philippines, Egypt and Vietnam around 100M.   India set to pass China any year now for most populous around 1.4B.  Bangladesh 145M.  Indonesia 273M.  Tanzania 60M.  Uganda 45M.  Afghanistan 40M.  Nepal 30M.
Some crazy numbers.

Spiders and insects -- just waiting for people to get off of their planet.*
But the human infestation is pretty tenacious.

I think he meant population control, not in the Malthusian sense, but in the sense of social control.

Most non-Whites in America roll their eyes at Candace Owens.

Its not about the most

Its about the "some" which could make a difference.

What is the upside for either political party regarding school opening?
Will people really be more likely to vote for Trump if the schools are open?

Probably not

Dems will use every COVID case - every school pause or closure to their advantage.

Trump isnt doing it for votes

The CDC projects 20,000 deaths in 21 days.

It's conservative. We've just had 5 consecutive days over 1,000, including three above 1,400, with an average of over 1,100 per day in the last 8 days - with no sign of its reducing and some of its increasing.

Gooooo, virus.
