Wonder how Sturgis is gonna turn out...

30 minutes from me.   Rapid City already getting more traffic.   Urgggg.   If you want a crowd most likely to sneer at masks,  distancing,  and sanitizer,  then have a biker rally.

Be careful, sir!

Remind folks that even during this terrible epidemic Trump and the GOP are still trying to kill Obamacare in the courts, which would take health insurance away from around 20M people, when many most need it because their jobs have ceased or they get sick.

This is a big point that the Biden Campaign should hammer on, and I have no doubt Trump will give him that opportunity in the debate.

Trump has been historically unpopular but he has never been more unpopular than when he supported Congress trying to take away the health insurance of tens of millions of Americans.

(born 3000 years ago, you couldn't be Christian; born in India you'd likely be Hindu or Jain or Muslim if you had a religious impulse).

I meant for those to be two separate hypotheticals.
That is, born in a different time or a different place, you'd almost certainly not be Christian because that wouldn't be a realistic option.

Born 1000 years from now, Christianity might be a faded relic nobody believes in anymore.

[fortuitously, Kinky Friedman's They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore just kicked in on my playlist]

Anyway, the idea that you happened to be born into the one true religion seems rather implausible given all the religions that exist now and those that have come and gone.   While devout Hindus believe they belong to the correct religion, as much as Christians do.  A billion somebodys are wrong.  Almost certainly 2B.

I guess I could have made it clearer by writing:
(born 3000 years ago, you couldn't be Christian; born in India today you'd likely be Hindu or Jain or Muslim if you had a religious impulse).

I used to go to the Lone Star to see Kinky... Jesus I’m old.

Trump likes to brag about the number of tests conducted in the US.  But the truth is most of those tests were largely useless as the results have been delayed an average of 7 days.  If results are not available with a day or two, it becomes impractical/impossible to effectively contract trace.  And those people who are positive won't isolate quickly enough.  So receiving a positive result a week later means that transmission has likely already occurred and spread greatly with no way to contain that.

(Biden should have figures on what % of US tests provided results with 2 days, which is when epidemiologists say is the effective range).

In China by late March, test results were available within 4 or 5 hours, though some areas provided next day results.  They used a cheap, quick test, not the highest reliability but fast results, so that a 2nd test could be administered easily as needed.

Biden and the Dems should be ready to counter Trump touting the number of tests, a misleading and useless metric.

Trump has a solid 40% regardless what he does or says.

During the debate he could reach in his pants pull out a lump of shit and throw it at Martha Raddatz and his base would claim it a superior debating technique.

Fuck trying to change anyone’s mind.

Just help the 60% get their votes cast and counted.

Trump has a solid 40% regardless what he does or says.

This is why the healthcare issue is so important.  Trump lies and says people with preconditions will be covered because these are issues that even his base cares about.

And when Trump was working with McConnell to take health insurance away from 30 million people that included those supporters, his support was down to 35%.

Forget that an Attorney General has no business basing the actions the Administration takes on issues of law on political considerations, but there is a reason Barr was telling Trump to put this off until after the election.

I can only imagine that CV-19 has made it even more clear how important health insurance is.

Kid, it's decreased pretty sharply.

But the point at which the numbers started decreasing matches to the day when HHS took over the gathering of stats.

The timing raises eyebrows and not just mine.

"The schools can handle the social distancing. And the kids will wear masks. They know what they are doing." And so what if two teens died of COVID-19 complications yesterday, they don't get sick or transmit or die!

Georgia, today:

Thanks, but you don't need the hint if you watch the news vs. a feed that is exclusively content from fox.com.

7 Day average has actually been going down for over a week now.  But this is expected as it has been the pattern.  Major population centers get hit (in this case, in Arizona, Texas and Florida) and then start to see a decrease in cases over time when those places clamp down.  You know, that "curve" you may have heard needs to flatten?

The problem is the US unlike most developed nations (or possibly any developed nation) has had two curves and six months out from the virus hitting is still seeing almost 50,000 new cases per day.  This is crazy.  And with Trump pushing to open certain segments back up again (like, I don't know, schools) the possibility of a third curve upward is very real.  Hence the warnings from Birx and Fauci that your favorite death cult leader wants us to ignore.

And then there is this too, yes.  Can't toss out the possibility that the numbers are fudged.
In the United States of America.   Which is just crazy.

Agree with Bo and Need on how Biden should stick to facts,  and I think Joe can do that,  but have doubts that facts really mean all that much to anyone who might be swayed by a debate.   The people who still care about facts were never going to vote for Trump or leaning anywhere his direction.  But we need the debates to maintain some vestiges of life before the Post-Truth Era.   And if Biden can conjure even a faint memory of America before unreality TV, web silos built on mythologies,  and the big lie,  then he will have achieved something.   If he can just help people to remember what bipartisanship is,  and how it sometimes worked,  that might help sway a few moderates.

Now I read the 18 posts since I looked in here a little while ago.
