A group of Black Lives Matter protesters in Seattle marched through a residential neighbourhood this week demanding[/b] that white residents give up their homes, dramatic video shows.


In this case, what is the right thing for the White people to do?

They should educate themselves on the history of the neighborhood, try to support black-owned businesses, and learn if deed theft occurred there
 -- but they don't owe their homes to the previous occupants.  That's not how this works.  Those folks need to take their megaphones to the homes of those who are responsible.

Deed theft?
What is that, please.

Deed theft has become a common tool of career criminals and unscrupulous real estate developers to illegally obtain real estate so they can sell it at a huge profit in high-demand housing markets like Brooklyn. This illegal scheme especially affects people of color, the elderly, and other vulnerable homeowners who are being scammed into signing over the deeds to their homes to con artists. Deed theft usually happens when scammers forge deeds to look like they purchased the home, or when homeowners are tricked into signing their homes over to a scammer without knowing what they are doing. Scammers then seek to evict the homeowner and sell the house to a third party at a significant profit.

New York City received around 3,000 complaints about deed theft between 2014-2019, 45 percent of which came from Brooklyn. The Office of the Attorney General receives 3-4 reports of deed theft a week, predominantly from Brooklyn, Queens, Northern Manhattan, and The Bronx.

In addition to deed theft another tool that has been used to displace longtime residents of homes is called Third Party Transfer where co-op shareholders (residents of a building who collectively own and maintain the building) are informed that their properties are being repossessed due to them being in arrears on tax or water/sewer payments.  This disproportionately affects low income homeowners who tend to also be minority homeowners.

Sounds like a better deed system is needed.
A better real estate legal system.
Maybe nobody much cares because it's only the poor and vulnerable being ripped off.
But crime is crime.
New buyers would be purchasing stolen goods, bad title.
NY needs better governance.

Some nurses downunder are flatly refusing to work in aged care homes, and in Covid wards etc...frightened of getting the virus.
College student daughter, whole life ahead of her?
Tell her to live in your home for 12 months, isolation, until a vaccine arrives..."defer study".
