Anyone notice the latest news from Sweden on COVID ?


Sweden's infection rate, once the highest in Europe, is now lower than in UK, Spain, France, Italy or Denmark

Curve was flattened without a lockdown as government trusted Swedes to take necessary hygiene measures

Falling cases and deaths have led Britain to regard the country as safe and remove it from quarantine list

Swedish economy has seen a milder downturn than in much of Europe as shops and restaurants stayed open



And it doesn’t  mandate masks

At last,  a post to which I can respond with authentic knowledge handed down through my family!   (I'm positively giddy)   My father,  a first generation child of Swedish parents,  was sent by his newspaper to Sweden to learn about their innovative approach to elder care and write a series of articles.   On that trip,  and others he took simply to visit,  and also from his parents,  aunts,  uncles, et al, he learned much about Swedish society.   One aspect,  of relevance to this topic,  is an overall approach to health that means hygiene and social distancing are somewhat "built in" to their society.   And it meant that assisted living for elders was already more prepared for safe bubbles,  where caregivers did not travel between facilities or have much outside contact.   

This means that Sweden is atypical,  that its particular social structure did allow a less mandated approach to the pandemic.   And,  like other Scandinavians (and,  say,  Canadians)  Swedes are more willing to follow social rules that foster community safety even without express legal pressure.   

America is quite different in this regard,  as everyone has surely noticed.   So the Swedish approach wouldn't yield the same results here.

A reminder to the lockdown/mask nannies that fighting COVID is not a zero sum proposition.

Gullible Trump was manipulated by Netanyahu’s Deep Fake Video of Mahmoud Abbas to Cut off Palestinians $5.5B

Bob Woodward’s new book due out tomorrow, reports that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu manipulated Donald Trump with fake video of Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas.

Netanyahu allegedly resorted to dirty tricks.
He had a deep fake video manufactured of Mahmoud Abbas calling for the killing of children, and showed it to Trump on May 22 of that year, as Trump visited the Holy Land.

This is the second deep fake video we know that Trump fell for. The other, according to the CIA and NSA was made by the United Arab Emirates, whose hackers broke into a video feed in Qatar and tried to make it look as though Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani had advocated terrorism. The emir is a secular-minded, Western-educated ruler and graduate from Britain’s Sandhurst military academy who hosts a US airbase at al-Udeid in Qatar that has been key to the US struggle against ISIL and other Muslim extremists.

Trump gullibly believed the UAE propaganda and tweeted his relief that the cause of terrorism in the Middle East had finally been identified, seeming to give support to the Saudi-UAE attempt on June 5, 2017, to overthrow the Qatar government by placing it under a blockade.
