Some universities kept the course for students to take voluntarily — but increasing numbers replaced it entirely with a World Civilization course. Three times as many students take the College Board’s World History Advanced Placement examination as take European History. Our students never have the chance to learn about the sequence linking Athens and Jerusalem to America, the continuous history from Plato to NATO.

1.  All info on phones is backed up on Government Servers (unlike, say, the Whatsapp exchanges being conducted by certain people int eh Trump Admin)
2.  Wiping phones before returning them to service is totally routine.

and 3.  The Congresspeople raising this as a story know the above two points perfectly well, but also know that some Americans are easy marks who will take their stupid conspiracy theories and run with them.

"Led by the nose" might be an appropriately used term here.

Countries that do a good job teaching History and Civics do not have organizations like our current republican party. They understand the dangers of letting a nexus of power and crime that feeds on racism, cultism, lies, and self-destruction persist and grow strong. The republican cycle of repression, grifting, collapse, and famine can only be stopped by destroying fascist platforms where ever they are found.

If we survive trump, hopefully we can inoculate ourselves against future similar infections.
