Instead he picks the one whose views on reproductive rights are most likely to alarm vast swaths of voters.

What exactly is a “ reproductive right”?
For nearly fifty years the democrats have used “ fear” of overturning Roe v Wade as a cudgel to raise money for their party’s “ fight for reproductive  rights” which is a lie.

Corporate personhood is a lie.

Money equating to speech is a lie.

Republican claims to support law and order are all lies.

If your Gilead Gang wasn’t putting so much sweat and capital into overturning Roe v. Wade and dismantling reproductive rights, it would not be a very convincing issue to raise support over and wouldn’t result in much interest or cash.

But we (and they) know how to sharply reduce abortions and they perpetually refuse to even consider it, fighting it tooth and nail. Free access to contraception.

And they know how to increase the willingness to go full term, but they refuse to do it. Improvements in adoption systems and foster systems.

It's not about "right to life" and never has been. We know it. They know it. It is about control of women.
What is  A reproductive right?
A sardine.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/25/politics/william-perry-pendley-ousted-federal-judge/index.html

Head held high.

Just illegally appointed, like so many others.

Quote
Morris wrote that, by law, the position of Bureau of Land Management director is required to be confirmed by the Senate. The Trump administration argued that Pendley did not officially have the title of acting director, so the requirement does not apply.

"Such arguments prove evasive and undermine the constitutional system of checks and balances," Morris wrote, adding that the administration referred to Pendley publicly as the agency's director.

Interior Department spokesman Conner Swanson told CNN in an email the administration will appeal "immediately."
"This is an outrageous decision that is well outside the bounds of the law," Swanson said.

Bullock, who is challenging GOP Sen. Steve Daines in a competitive Senate race, tweeted, "Today's ruling is a win for the Constitution, the rule of law, and our public lands."

It looks based on the photo tweeted out that Ron Paul may have gotten very lucky.

I wish for him a full and rapid recovery. And I hope the video will prove useful in training folks what to watch for!

How gullible are American voters? I suppose we will find out:

Quote
During his remarks on health care policy yesterday, Donald Trump used the word "plan" 39 times. Indeed, the point of the president's plan was to ostensibly unveil a new governing blueprint, which the White House has labeled the "America First Health Care Plan."

The problem, however, is that there's still no actual plan. What Trump unveiled are two executive orders that literally don't do anything.

President Donald Trump announced two new health care executive orders Thursday on protecting pre-existing conditions and preventing surprise billing as the president seeks to shore up his support on an issue that remains top of mind to voters amid to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The actions, however, have minimal impact.

To be sure, preventing surprise billing is a worthwhile goal with bipartisan support, but to address the issue, policymakers will need legislative solutions, not a hollow press release from the White House with no force of law.

Similarly, protecting Americans with pre-existing conditions is clearly worthwhile, but (a) Trump signing an executive order to create a benefit that already exists in the Affordable Care Act is ridiculous; and (b) the president is currently fighting to take these protections away through a case at the Supreme Court.

This isn't governing; this is a joke masquerading as policy.

At one point during his event in North Carolina yesterday, the Republican declared, "The historic action I'm taking today includes the first-ever executive order to affirm it is the official policy of the United States government to protect patients with pre-existing conditions. This is affirmed, signed, and done so we can put that to rest."

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/09/hidden-immune-weakness-found-14-gravely-ill-covid-19-patients

Quote
"From the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists baffled by the disease’s ferocity have wondered whether the body’s vanguard virus fighter, a molecular messenger called type I interferon, is missing in action in some severe cases. Two papers published online in Science this week confirm that suspicion. They reveal that in a significant minority of patients with serious COVID-19, the interferon response has been crippled by genetic flaws or by rogue antibodies that attack interferon itself."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/09/24/correcting-misinformation-about-breonna-taylor/

A good summary of the mistakes made and the systemic flaws-- from judges just signing any old cut-and-paste warrant to police routinely announcing themselves and battering down the door a millisecond later.  Also unclear why for a low level target they conducted the raid at 12:30 AM or why the police were all in street clothes.

Yeah, WaPo, but I just stop it from loading before the firewall rears up.
