As America locked down this spring during the worst pandemic in a century, inside the Trump White House there was the usual defiance.

The tight quarters of the West Wing were packed and busy. Almost no one wore masks. The rare officials who did, like Matthew Pottinger, the deputy national security adviser, were ridiculed by colleagues as alarmist.

President Donald Trump at times told staff wearing masks in meetings to “get that thing off,” an administration official said. Everyone knew that Trump viewed masks as a sign of weakness, officials said, and that his message was clear.

“You were looked down upon when you would walk by with a mask,” said Olivia Troye, a top aide on the coronavirus task force who resigned in August and has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden.

Troye was fired.

No, that's just spin, after she walked away.

But clearly, you didn't keep reading.

Troye was fired.

That’s the only positive credential possible from this White House, however little it may be worth.

Self. Wife. Place of business. Publicly funded care unit. Country.

There’s not much left for the guy to mess up.

On ABC's "This Week," Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller dodged questions about why Thursday's fundraiser in Bedminster, New Jersey, was not canceled after the White House learned that senior counselor Hope Hicks had tested positive for COVID-19, and pushed back against the notion that the campaign hasn't taken the virus seriously -- despite holding indoor events and not requiring facemasks.

Attendees had to test negative for Covid-19 on Thursday, complete a wellness questionnaire and pass a temperature screening, according to a Republican National Committee spokesman. The event site was professionally cleaned and sanitized before the event, and every guest stayed at least 6 feet from the president at all times, the spokesman said.

For the first of two events, which began at 3 p.m., a group of about 20 people sat around a rectangular table for a conversation with Mr. Trump.

During that portion of the event, Mr. Trump spoke about the pandemic, said Rich Roberts, who is 63 and the former head of pharmaceutical company URL Pharma, who said he has contributed about $900,000 to Trump re-election efforts including Trump Victory, the joint effort between the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee.

The president said four or five vaccines could be approved in the next several weeks, and there is “great progress” on therapeutic drugs with several potentially up for approval in the near future, Dr. Roberts said. Mr. Trump also complained that federal administrators are trying to block or slow down approval of coronavirus vaccines for political reasons

I don't know dexamethasone, but have taken another cortico-steroid, prednisone which is kind of a miracle drug.  As immuno-suppressant and anti-inflammatory drugs, they both are good for severe allergies, arthritis, etc.  The trouble is prednisone has lots of side effects associated with long term use, so it can't be used vs. chronic conditions (such as arthritis).    I assume the same is likely true of dexamethasone and most other cortico-steroids.

Dexamethasone is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood/hormone/immune system disorders, allergic reactions, certain skin and eye conditions, breathing problems, certain bowel disorders, and certain cancers. It is also used as a test for an adrenal gland disorder (Cushing's syndrome).

This medication is a corticosteroid hormone (glucocorticoid). It decreases your body's natural defensive response and reduces symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions...

Am familiar with Dex,  as a former job required me to be.   Much more potent than prednisone,  and generally not used unless one is pretty ill.   Among corticosteroids,  it's the nuclear option.  I had a couple clients who developed acne from it,  one of its weirder side fx.  Trump could be getting it for breathing difficulties, but could also get it for adrenal insufficiency --  JFK suffered from it.   Both of the clients I mentioned had to avoid salt and eat potassium rich foods,  due to the steroid.

I think actress Kathleen Turner may have been on Dex for a while, which caused a change in facial appearance that was quite stark and impacted her career.   A drug to watch out for.

The joy ride was total insanity,  and total presidential selfishness, yes.   "Hey,  they pledge to die for me... guess I'll take them up on that."

Even the pro-Trump NY Post knows that Troye resigned.

https://nypost.com/2020/09/22/white-house-attacks-fired-pandemic-aide-olivia-troye/

"Fired" it says in its headline.

Quote
Speaking from the briefing room podium, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, national security adviser to Vice President Mike Pence, trashed Troye almost a week after she cut an ad for Republican Voters Against Trump.

Trump failed to protect his own body.

Trump’s body is now a Petri dish of experimental medicine and disregarded medical advice.
