In fact the bulk of my understanding of this conflict has come from my own googling after seeing the march and your posts.
This is sadly a non-story here.
It's a small corner of the world, and the larger powers continue to manipulate the small transcaucasian countries, as they have for centuries.
Nagorno-Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan but had a mixed Azeri/Armenian population during the USSR days. the Armenians basically ethnic cleansed the Azeris in the early 90's when Armenia won the war.
Of course a lot of Azeris all fled. Azerbaijan started the recent war to regain the territory lost 27 years ago. And got more than half of its lost territory, maybe 2/3rds. Armenians still control most of Nagorno Karabakh proper, but lost all the surrounding buffer land.
For those keeping score at home:
Georgia = US-aligned democracy. Somewhat messy country with lots of grey market activity. Two frozen conflicts with Russian troops maintaining de facto independence on Georgia territory. For all practical purposes Abkhazia, the former Georgian Riviera, is part of Russia and Georgia will never reclaim it. Being strongly anti-Russia, pro-America in that region is tough. Good thing the Turks come to Georgia's Black Sea resorts to gamble and drink.
Azerbaijan: Turkish-backed dictatorship, with oil money. Father and son only two rulers since 1991 independence. Azeris are a Turkic people with a language and culture close to Turkish.
There's a large Azeri population in northwest Iran, which has more Azeris than Azerbaijan.
Basically in the mid-19th C, the Azeri lands were split between Russia and Iran. Azerbaijan is the Russian northern half.
Armenia: mostly-Russia supported. Though Putin doesn't like the current leader who came to power via huge opposition protests (against the corrupt Russia-friendly ex-leader).
Dry, dusty north, and lush green highlands in the south.
Enemy of Turkey.
The western half of traditional Armenia is in present day Turkey. The Armenian genocide at the end of WWI was about ethnically cleansing the Armenians out of the region (and punishing them for not their supporting colonial Ottoman Empire rulers).
