The Congressional Budget Office calculated that "roughly five of six recipients" were getting more from unemployment insurance payments than they would from working.

We all support a safety net for people who lose their job during the pandemic through no fault of their own. But paying people more for not working is no "stimulus" for the economy.  Moreover, getting the schools reopened so kids are in the classroom would allow three or four million more Americans (mostly working mothers) to go back to work.

Catching up with last eight pages, saw that.   Saw the article in the NYT -- one connection, which jumped out at me,  was that something like a million college students work in health care and/or elder care.    This is a vector that's really hard to fix -- there's already staff shortages.

Up to seven percent in the US,  and projected available plots of land (so,  just onshore installation) show total energy potential at around 120% of present total US electricity use.   Networking with solar, hydro,  geothermal,  tidal,  plus battery storage,  solves the irregularity issue.   Wind installations are now the cheapest new infrastructure on a per megawatt basis,  so it's going to happen.    My state (a Red State,  btw) has gone all out on the wind power,  and now gets 24% of its power from wind.   It's also an economic lifeline to farmers and ranchers.   You know, the people who feed us.

If Biden does what he's promised to do, and cancels coal, gas, and oil, the Right won't have to look far for new voters.
If Biden turns the US into a net importer of energy instead of a net exporter of energy...he will surely be in for a rough ride. Lots of jobs in those industries, including very well paying ones.

The Dems have to put in the work to make sure that trump is viewed as the worst president ever.  By all rights, W Bush should have had the title, but the Dems acquiesced in the cultural amnesia that Bush never existed.  A blown opportunity to tarnish the GOP long term. 

How come no Dems are talking about how W Bush and Trump represent the GOP and were disastrous Presidents who set America on the road to decline and hate.  Then go on to make whatever other arguments, such as Republicans are incompetent at governing because they don't believe in gov't.  How all the money shifts to the Rich with tax cuts for the wealthy, and then the Dems are handed a bankrupt country, so the GOP can claim there's no money to aid the poor and working class.

Catching up...Fac's school reading list --.if my HS had such, I might have read Gravity's Rainbow.   At this point,  I feel like that window of opp is gone.   Maybe.   The other Tom (Robbins) is quite readable - still grateful for his observation that the first amoeba is still alive.   

Outright book banning is a powerful stimulus to curious young readers -- sort of an offshoot of what psychs call The Streisand Effect.
