A federal judge just ruled that it’s unconstitutional for transgender people to be required to show proof from a doctor that they’re undergoing transition-related care in order to get a passport with the correct gender marker on it.

The State Department “has provided no explanation, let alone any evidence, of why [it] has an important interest in verifying a transgender passport applicant’s gender identity, nor a cogent explanation of why the Policy requiring a physician’s certification increases the accuracy of issued passports,” U.S. District Court Judge Gloria M. Navarro wrote in her ruling.

Despite no evidence in the complaint that police made efforts to independently verify the informant’s tip, such as conducting any surveillance or additional checks as required by policy, the search warrant was approved by an assistant state’s attorney and a judge.

But CBS 2 quickly found, through police and court records, the informant gave police the wrong address. The 23-year-old suspect police were looking for actually lived in the unit next door to Young at the time of the raid and had no connection to her.

Michelle Obama faced misogynoir, a vicious and specific kind of racialized sexism targeted at Black women, and received mountains of criticism for simply asking people to (gasp!) “move” when she traveled around the country doing controversial things like planting gardens, improving school lunches and having a dance-off with Big Bird.

Watched a YouTube video yesterday from the.Jimmy Kimmel show.
They set up a map of the world in the street...complete with a pointer stick.
They asked people, all Americans, who confessed to being Republican supporters, to name one country on the map.
One.
The countries all the one colour, borders drawn, oceans/water a different colour.
All the people interviewed were aged about 35-60, all White people, the White men about 50-60.
One guy got Africa, to be told that was a continent, did he know any countries there. He said no.
None of them could name one country, not even US.
One guy said he knew Mexico...and pointed to India.
Another guy pointed to Australia as Africa.
The women had no clue either.

Remember the post how the states with the most "highly educated" did not vote for trump and how mad that made you?

You claimed that higher education did not matter.  That you could raise goats instead.

These are the goat people you love!   They vote Republican.   They can't name one country on a map.

A friend of mine was in DC today and her path took them too near the MAGA White Supremacist Rally.

A group of them surrounded my friend, then who was then chased down the street.

Had my friend been counter-protesting? No. Shopping.

What did my friend do to offend them? My friend is a diminutive Chinese woman by appearance, with glasses.

That was enough to set this part of the mob off.

"Deplorables" is too kind a term for them.

On the issue of the police...

There needs to be more programs to deal with things, and the police should be responsible only for law enforcement and peace keeping. There can be social workers to deal with the homeless people. There can be crowd control to deal with crowds. There can be mental health people to deal with mental health issues. There can be special people for drug issues, and special places where drug addicts can get help, etc. And there can be more Crisis Intervention Specialists, etc. There can be specialized people who can take the pressure off of the police. The duties of the police can be reduced to law enforcement and peacekeeping.

This guy actually seems reasonable and smart,  which is what makes the interview so surreal to me.   He truly believes Trump is all about protecting the Constitution and our election process.
