Time to lock the thread and let that be the final word ...

I disagree. We're going to have Trump Administration stuff coming out for a while and having a good gathering place for it strikes me as appropriate.

But I can pretend we're democratic, if folks would like.

Oh, I don't really think any threads should be locked.

But that seemed like a fitting epitaph...

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — One name missing in President Donald Trump’s flurry of pardons was “Tiger King” Joe Exotic.

His team was so confident in a pardon that they had readied a celebratory limousine and a hair and wardrobe team to whisk away the zookeeper-turned-reality-TV-star, who is serving a 22-year federal prison sentence in Texas. But he wasn’t on the list announced Wednesday morning.

Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, was sentenced in January 2020 to 22 years in federal prison for violating federal wildlife laws and for his role in a failed murder-for-hire plot targeting his chief rival, Carole Baskin, who runs a rescue sanctuary for big cats in Florida. Baskin was not harmed.

Maldonado-Passage, who has maintained his innocence, was also sentenced for killing five tigers, selling tiger cubs and falsifying wildlife records. A jury convicted him in April 2019.

The Trump legacy continues to expand.

38 Capitol Police have tested positive for COVID-19 after the riot.

Trump is threatening to create a new political party, reported The Washington Post.

He plans to use the Patriot Party as leverage over GOP senators, so they don't convict him in his impeachment trial.

Seems Trump has actually created an incentive for the GOP Senate to convict him.

One of his spokesmen today denied Trump has any such intention.

I am sure he has said both things.

Soliciting donations for a political movement sounds a bit better than panhandling, which is what he will really be doing.

Plausible deniability. That's all. Follow the money. Big GOP donors don't want to give money to Trump, so they'll put the squeeze on the GOP Senators to convict or lose their cash flow.

Follow the $$$$$!!!!

From 4 years ago.

But it turns out, only one of the endings was possible.

America's COVID response ranks among WORST in world: US in 94th place out of 98 and just above IRAN in shocking new study

The US came 94th out of 98 countries ranked on their handling of CV-19:

98. Brazil in last place in the study by the Lowy Institute.
97. Mexico
96. Colombia
95. Iran
94. Trumpistan (fka USofA)
.
.
For the most part, small countries and island nations with smaller populations, cohesive societies and competent gov't did best:
1. New Zealand
2. Vietnam
3. Taiwan
4. Thailand
5. Cyprus

6. Rwanda
7. Iceland
8. Australia
9. Latvia
10. Sri Lanka

Though Vietnam has close to 100M people; Thailand 70M.
Surprised to see Rwanda on the list.

Two theories on why Africa (aside from South Africa) didn't get hit too hard by CV-19: most of the population is young & there aren't many travel links with the rest of the world (and most got shut down by Northern countries before the Virus spread).

Though South America got hit hard and I'm not sure what the differences are -- maybe SA is more urbanized, a bit older and more connected to the US and Mexico which did terrible jobs of handling the virus.  The latter point is probably key/decisive.

You are on the money on the age factor.
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/mapped-the-median-age-of-every-continent/

3% of Africa are seniors. Average age is 18.

There are more people over 65 in Europe than under 15, the only continent for which that is true. 41% of Africa is below 15. Second highest is Latin America at 26%. They're tied for 2nd youngest continent with Asia, at 31. Not even close to Africa.

Transportation is another good guess. This is from 2012, but the observation has consistently been that transportation increases as wealth increases and a quick look at this chart shows where Africa is on both counts. Also note where China is. Australia and New Zealand are far higher on both counts, but the 'island' element is strong for both of them, even if Australia is really a continent.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/28/politics/josh-hawley-interview-objection-election/index.html

Senator Hawley is even less clear on how the internet works than Representative Green.

He wants to pretend he didn't talk about the Senate's being able to keep Trump in office and claim his moves against electoral college votes had nothing to do with keeping President Trump.

1/28/2021: "I was very clear from the beginning that I was never attempting to overturn the election."

1/4/2021:  Asked by Fox News: "Are you trying to say that as of January 20th that President Trump will be president?" Hawley responded to anchor Bret Baier: "Well, Bret that depends on what happens on Wednesday. I mean this is why we have the debate. This is why we have the votes." Hawley repeatedly declined to say Congress wouldn't be able to change the results of Biden's win.

The man is a liar and a weasel, in addition to the rest of his problems. Should I feel better that at least he doesn't think the Jews are starting the forest fires in CA with their giant space laser?! Or worse?
