In reality! Got to hand it to you, Red.  You go "scoreboard" in every single discussion here.  Never what's right or wrong, never what's good or bad.  Only what numbers, and likely flawed numbers, dictate and what the majority has the "power" to do.  And yet you have the gall to call others amoral.  You are one piece of work. MIGHT MAKES RIGHT!

The numbers I referred to come from all walks of life, rich and poor, black and white, etc. in Voter ID laws the percentages favoring them are about 80 in total and large majorities in all demographics. You may have a different idea of what’s right or wrong but that doesn’t change the numbers. Democratic governments need the consent of the governed to enact laws. We count votes to determine their consent. That is neither amoral nor moral. It is a fundamental of democracy.

The numbers.  Right the wisdom of the majority.  You've confirmed exactly what I've said.  "Right" is only dictated by the majority (or what you think the majority) wants.  No thought, no analysis, no right or wrong.  I wonder if this is same majority who made "Don't Stop Believing" the most downloaded song of all time.

You have yet to offer a justification for Voter ID laws beyond "that's what the people want."  If that's enough for you, so be it.  Every issue, every discussion, every problem, we take a poll and we give the folks what they want to solve it.  REDSTATE WARD: populist!

It remains amusing to me how a small government guy such as yourself is perfectly happy with using the power of the government to address a non-existent problem.

You are an amoral SOB, who, hypocritically, has the smugness to call majorities you disagree with "socialist cocksuckers."

Those are the same people who wanted Obama to have his SCOTUS pick, but your anti-democratic stalinist party passed on those demographics, just like they take a pass on the majority of Americans who say to enact stricter gun laws.

Dope.

Red is why we will pass an amendment mandating fair and transparent elections with paper ballots with the abolition of the electoral college added on in a nod to freedom and modernity.

Red has been letting Newt Gingrich deposit his poxy semen in his gaping rectum for so long he can no longer see anything but skewed poll results. He represents a large caste of dead white men who’s decomposing hands need to be pried from the tiller since all the do now is crash the ship of state and emit a ferocious stench.

I would never be expected to have the right to vote if I didnt have proper identification and a permanent address.

Of course here in Whackadoo County they dont even make us show ID

heh

No doubt an easy place for one of the (just) 2 voter frauds that YG notes to have occurred.

Trump got something right.

That he fails to understand the implications of his being right is problematic, but what else is new?

Trump makes no comment today on McCain, given three opportunities to do so.

What’s your take on “We the People”?

Are you suggesting we run all laws by you first?

Doesn’t have anything to do with right or wrong. Just the fact, taking your word for it, that it is the most downloaded song.

What is your alternative ?

Using ID pictures adds nothing to the size of government. In fact it reduces the amount of provisional ballots and the cost of checking them out.

Trump got it right..."Make America Great Again"..."Take our country back".
Trump won the election.

Conservative Australians [bambu-ilk] just want what Conservative Americans were able to get.
Took their country back...and made it great again....
. More secure borders, no more sanctuary cities, a wall in progress [as in Saudi Arabia], etc.
. The brigades of political correctness/appeasement/tolerance etc being less relevant.
. Took country back from the grip of the UN and climate change brigade...'Paris' dumped.
. Immigration more selective...travel and immigration bans from certain places.
etc

Fine. A government by polling. Another word you like to use but clearly don't know the meaning of: "feckless."

You should probably read the article that Bankshot posted.  You'll be the BENEFICIARY of the information he provided.  But do what you want.  I know Voter ID laws are your hobby horse.  We all are BENEFICIARIES of such laws as they're designed to protect all of us from the two to three cases of voter fraud that occur every election cycle.   No other reason.

Talk to the voters in the 30+ states that enacted Voter ID Laws then, and those polled who endorse the laws including a majority of minorities. In reality the voters themselves highly favor ID’s to vote and do so by wide margins in all sections of the country.

From a 2014 paper:

Media Representations of African Americans and the Support for New Voting Laws: Does Watching Television Affect Support for Voter ID?

Abstract:
Recent polling data has shown widespread support for the proposal and enactment of new laws changing voting procedures in many states controlled by conservative legislatures. Supporters of these new laws contend they are necessary for electoral security and to prevent in-person voter fraud, while opponents state the new laws are designed to suppress the increasing voting power of racial/ethnic minorities (primarily African Americans) and to maintain the status quo in regions that are experiencing demographic shifts in the voting populations.

The purpose of this study was to try and understand why there is support for these new laws in the face of evidence that voter fraud is extremely rare and the specific target of these new laws, in-person voting fraud is statistically non-existent. This effort examines the relationship between perceptions of African Americans and support for these new voting laws and whether those perceptions are reinforced by exposure to television and television news. Cultivation theory states people who spend more hours watching television than others perceive the real world to be an accurate reflection of the world they see on television. This study was an attempt to determine if the support for these new voting laws has been influenced by the amount of television people watch and the results indicate that this may indeed be the case.

To examine if there was a correlation between the representations of African Americans in the media and the support for new voting laws a cross-sectional survey was distributed through social media networks on the Internet to two hundred fifty participants with one hundred ninety fully completing the survey.

Participants who reported a negative perception of African Americans indicated their support for laws eliminating early voting periods and support for stricter voter identification laws. Participants who reported watching more television than others were more likely to believe portrayals of African Americans on television were accurate and also indicated their support for strict voter identification standards and support for laws eliminating early voting. As such people who watch more television may be exposed to more negative racial imagery in television programming and that may wield influence over their decision making process on issues concerning local and national politics as well as society in general.
