Of course the GOP is standing up to it.

Why is it a given that they “stand up” to the allegations by denouncing them as made-up and/or politically motivated, when they don’t have any idea that this is the case?

Why can’t they say “These are serious allegations that need to be considered if true, but they do not match-up to the character of the Judge Kavanaugh we know.”

The “every man should be scared” angle is absurd and has been justly lampooned.  As has the direction of empathy (demonstrated by Trump himself) to be with Kavanaugh.  You feel sorry for him?  Even if its found credible that he tried to commit a rape?

Ok, in Trump’s case we know the answer to that…but why should we assume all Republicans are similarly lacking in moral character?

Australian mother facing death penalty in US for alleged murder of stepdaughter

COPS in the US say a mum from Adelaide murdered her mentally ill stepdaughter. Now she could be given a death sentence.
Lisa Cunningham, 43, was raised in Adelaide and moved to the US after marrying an American serviceman just over 20 years ago.

Overnight, a Maricopa County judge ruled after a two-day hearing that she and her husband, Germayne Cunningham, were eligible for the death penalty if convicted at their upcoming trial.
The Phoenix Times newspaper reported Cunningham’s daughter, Sanaa, died of pneumonia and complications such as sepsis in February last year.

The court heard Sanaa was afflicted by schizophrenia and other behavioural disorders.

“There were many warning signs with regard to her need for medical attention,” Judge Michael Kemp said at last week’s hearing, according to the Phoenix Times.
“This was more than reckless behaviour. This was more than a failure to provide care and it led to the child’s death.”

However, the defence have pointed to the Sanaa’s autopsy report, which was inconclusive as to whether she was killed or died by accident.]
The couple’s lawyers say the Cunninghams were only trying to stop Sanaa from harming herself and others.

Cunningham is the first Australian woman to ever face the death penalty in the US, and the first Australian since the hanging of a man in California in the 1850s gold rush era.

Australia doesn't execution-exterminate Americans.

Should never have left Australia's shores.
Now look what's happening/could well happen to her...walked into Arizona's chamber of death alive and wheeled out dead.
Indonesia got away with it, so why would Arizona give it a second thought.

In America, if you have a child "afflicted by schizophrenia and other behavioural disorders", can you put the child into care with the state, free?

Her lawyer is calling it attempted rape.
Saying that he was too inebriated to be successful.

Things are so charged with partisan strife right now that I truly don't know what to think, but I do know there's something really wrong when the admin doesn't have the FBI look into this.

The FBI is not an investigative body into alleged state crimes that were never reported.
What is the FBI supposed to “ investigate” 36 years after a “ event” that has only one complainant?
We have an account from one person with scant details strongly denied by her alleged “ attacker” and a third party who says there was no such “ event”.  The only “ corroborating “ evidence comes from the alleged “ victim” contained in notes by a marriage counselor dictated by the “ victim”.

So....

what do we all think?

Is Kavanaugh toast?

I didn't think so. I was pretty sure that the combination of lack of witnesses to support her story and his having the supposed nd guy there say no such thing happened ever - not even anything consensual with this woman - was going to take care of it for him.

Then I read this:
https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/17/politics/mark-judge-brett-kavanaugh-high-school/index.html

Quote
Judge wrote the book "Wasted: Tales of a Gen X Drunk," where he details his experiences of extensive drinking while attending Georgetown Preparatory School.

Judge writes that he is "shocked" about what he got away with in high school -- recalling beach parties that hundreds of people would attend.

At another point he describes his high school as "positively swimming in alcohol."

Judge also references a "Bart O'Kavanaugh," who he writes vomited in someone's car. It has not been confirmed whether this is a reference to Kavanaugh.

And this:
Quote
In 2015, Judge writes in Splice Today about what he calls "damseling," which he describes as "making a woman a passive damsel in distress who needs rescuing."

"Of course, a man must be able to read a woman's signals, and it's a good thing that feminism is teaching young men that no means no and yes means yes. But there's also that ambiguous middle ground, where the woman seems interested and indicates, whether verbally or not, that the man needs to prove himself to her. And if that man is any kind of man, he'll allow himself to feel the awesome power, the wonderful beauty, of uncontrollable male passion," he wrote.

I think Kavanaugh is toast.

I think if they let Mark Judge speak to the Senate Judiciary Committee, he is burnt toast.

A blackout drunk who wrote that kind of stuff and was Kavanaugh's "alibi" and wingman? Burn toast with a picture of Elvis on it.

Could be

The yearbook sure doesnt work in his favor.

If a new appointee is needed we will see if Dems were being honest in their just worrying about Roe v Wade

Likely not.

They likely go after the new nominee just as hard.
The "new nominee" will more than likely look just as unfavorably at Roe v. Wade.

heh

In your eyes? I am sure

You can repeat your bullshit all you want. This is not a case for a court of law, this is the equivalent of an investigation for a security clearance. This is not an exercise in a prosecution so drop your ersatz “legalese” and find a different tack. Sorry you got the wrong set of talking points today.

and she was 15.
The reaction from some conservatives was swift -- and appealed directly to male fears and male interests. A lawyer close to the White House, speaking anonymously to Politico, said that the nomination would not be withdrawn because "If somebody can be brought down by accusations like this, then you, me, every man certainly should be worried. We can all be accused of something." Ari Fleischer, the former White House press secretary to George W. Bush, asked on Fox whether committing sexual assault in high school should "deny us chances later in life." Conservative blogger and radio host Erick W. Erickson declared on Twitter that "If the GOP does not stand up to this character assassination attempt on Kavanaugh, every judicial nominee moving forward is going to suffer last minute sexual assault allegations" -- as if sexual assault allegations are all simply some kind of plot against our boys.
Tom Nichols, a conservative professor at the US Naval War College and author of "The Death of Expertise," initially sided with Kavanaugh — and then, reconsidered. As he perceptively explained on Twitter: "Listen, I'm a middle-aged man seeing a middle-aged man get nuked w/accusations from high school. It put me in a defensive crouch."

Because every guy does this sort of thing.

Got it.

Of course the GOP is standing up to it.

And of course there could be defections.

But, Kiid, you fail to understand (unsurprisingly):

Backing up Kavanaugh's claims of innocence is one thing. Claiming that all guys are vulnerable to this sort of claim is totally another.

No need to assume, regardless.

They are insisting on proving the point.

Well there are two parties, a witness, and notes.indicating Ford talked to her therapist in detail about the event six years before any motivation to fabricate arose. Tbat would be a starting point.

You act as if investigations into similar circumstances are not routine. They are. It is not a question of he said/ She said, but of using normal methods of determining credibility.  Like discussing the matter with someone when there was no motive to fabricate.

I hope your party continues to use those implied air quotes in discussing the situation. You are already underwater with suburban women. Wonder how low that number can go.

Actually, yes, the FBI investigates allegations that were never previously reported. So sad, Red.

I already answered what they are supposed to investigate - but fortunately, since I said that it turns out that Mark Judge, the alleged alibi, has previously provided a ton of evidence to support the allegations. Just as "Bart O'Kavanaugh!"
