Kavanaugh made the strong point during his statement that no connections got him into Yale

This point is only lost on you.

likely took other drugs at times

I'm from the exact same generation.
At least two of my high school classmates went to Yale with Kavanaugh (same class).  I didn't hang around with the athletes in high school, but was aware they were up to much of the same as we were.  The heavy drinking and music and trying to get girls.  It was a mostly beer drinking culture, but we also had parties specifically with mixed-drink themes (my Alabama Slammer parties were legendary).  It didn't take much to realize that girls drank more with mixed drinks, and was a fun change of pace.

I would be very surprised if Kav's buddies didn't have alcohol parties at times.  I think one of the girls in or around his HS circle from back then mentioned Everclear, which is undiluted grain alcohol.  Knowing what I do about the time and culture, I find it exceedingly unlikely that Kav and his friends didn't smoke weed.  Which was exceedingly commonplace.  And probably at least dabbled in other drugs.  They were readily available, common and considered cool/edgy.

I guess its mildly plausible they stuck to drinking, but I think the vast majority of middle class suburban teenage heavy drinking buddies circa 1983 also engaged and experimented with other drugs.
It's too bad he wasn't asked about other drugs under oath, because that's certainly on various gov't forms he would have filled out in the past.

I wonder if Mark Judge's book talks about smoking dope or taking other drugs in high school, because it would then be very likely Bart O'Kav did as well.

Kavanaugh said he had no connections.  His grandfather went there.

Whether or not that legacy connection was needed to get him in is a point important only to you, when the applicable facts are not in dispute.

Look, I can google too:

However, if an applicant’s legacy relation is more distant, such as a cousin, a sibling, a grandparent, or an aunt or uncle, the increase in acceptance chances he or she receives drops to 13.7%. These applicants are called secondary legacies, and are still given some special consideration over applicants who have no relation to the college, but nowhere near as much given to the primary legacies. The exact amount, again, varies with the closeness of the relation. Grandparents who went to Yale are more valuable legacies than a first cousin twice removed.

https://blog.collegevine.com/legacy-demystified-how-the-people-you-know-affect-your-admissions-decision/

And all signs point to this kind of legacy being more important in the 80's, not less.

Kavanaugh's father was born in New Haven, the same Grandfather buried there.

To say "no connections" to Yale...it's an obvious lie.  Whether or not those connections got him in.

At the very least it would be a statement that a person who is aiming to be as truthful as possible would steer away from.  Kavanaugh did not go into that hearing with that intention, and he showed it right off the bat.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/kavanaugh-classmate-tell-fbi-nominee-s-violent-drunken-behavior-college-n915326

Charles Ludington, a classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at Yale University, will provide information to the FBI Monday, he confirmed to NBC News.

News of Ludington's involvement was first reported by The Washington Post, which said he planned to give a statement to the FBI at its field office in Raleigh, N.C., "detailing violent drunken behavior by Kavanaugh in college."

In a copy of his statement given to The Post, Ludington, a professor at North Carolina State University, described Kavanaugh as a "belligerent and aggressive" drunk.

You can keep saying that kiidcarter8, but that reflects on you, not the info on hand.  A grandfather that went there (and apparently maintained a lifetime connection to New Haven) is a connection.  A strong one.  Kavanaugh lied.

And as I said, the fact that we are even having to sit here parsing this out is telling, when Kavanaugh didn't even have to say it.

Former FBI Agents speak to the White House/Congressional Republicans limiting the scope of the Kavanaugh investigation:

Former FBI agents I spoke with questioned the apparent limits on the renewed background check.

“It’s not an investigation if the FBI is going to accept the dictates of the White House in terms of who you can interview and who you can’t,” John Mindermann, a former FBI special agent who investigated the Watergate break-in, told me. Mindermann added that the idea of such a limited investigation is “ridiculous” and that if this holds, “it would be unprofessional, it would be grossly incomplete, and it would be unfair to the American public.”...

ndeed, Mindermann told me that a “complete investigation” would include talking to more people “in all of the venues in which Kavanaugh interacted — private school, parties, law school.” Mindermann added that if the FBI “did the job they should and can do, I would be very surprised if they did not find relevant, very significant additional information about Kavanaugh.”

“A complete background check investigation will not be possible without the ability to interview classmates and associates and anybody with knowledge of the circumstances in the time frame in question,” Dennis Franks, a former FBI agent with two decades of experience, added in an interview with me. “The circumstances in this matter deal with allegations of extensive drinking and behavior while intoxicated. This would normally be an issue that is addressed.”...

Franks told me that a proper FBI investigation would nail down whether Judge did work at Safeway “during the time frame in question,” and when. If he did, that would seem to enhance Ford’s credibility — though it wouldn’t prove anything — yet this, too, is reportedly off-limits for the probe.

I don't think anyone is pursuing this avenue, except me.
An opportunity missed imo.

Kavanaugh tried to keep everything limited to beer.
In which he was largely successful.  While he also managed to keep everything limited to alcohol (which no one seemed to notice).

Not sure why they have to investigate if Judge worked at Safeway at any point

I dont think anyone is saying Ms Ford lied.
