Trump has been "backed off" all along.

The press initially attributed stances to Trump and "The White House" that were not accurate.

False.  The "White House" blamed congressional Republicans for the limits in methods and scope trying to (falsely) give the impression they had no influence over it.

There he goes again - exaggerating his crowd size.

There he goes, campaigning instead of running the country.

I suppose I should be grateful.
If you think about it you should be. Economic growth has been revised upward to over 3%: unemployment rate is at 3.9 and headed down t o 3, inflation is well under control, wages are up,
Consumer confidence is through the roof, and Americans are buying steak again.

I think that is Josh's point.  That with Trump's absentee "Presidency" the economy has been allowed to flourish (largely) without his interference.

Michael Gerson's politics are not mine and I certainly am not a man of faith like he is, but there is no stronger advocate for the separation of church and state than he is and today's column is, I think, the best he's ever written.

I know it might well be a paywall for you, Kid, but don't worry.  It's longer than 280 characters and there are several big words used.  You can skip it.

Excellent.   I'm passing this along to a religious friend.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's favorability with U.S. adults is unchanged from last November -- remaining at a record low (36%).

GALLUP POLL

And people say there is no good news anymore.

Which office is she presently standing for election?

Oh, yeah. None.

So who gives a shit?

Not sure I've ever followed the polling on losing presidential candidates two years after the election.  I mean, what is the median here?  Do we have comparative figures for all the other losing candidates for the same time period after their loss?

If it is indeed the lowest (which the poster doesn't support with any stats), I can think of a several reasons:

1.  Polling trends in the past decades have shown more Americans disenchanted with politics generally and more convinced that politicians are corrupt, a sentiment that extends across party lines.  Any hint of corruption, proven or unproven, makes a pile-on easy.

2.  Many voters simply vote their pocketbook, so if they like (with their usual myopia) the current tax break that they believe they're getting, then that will tend to translate into a lower opinion of the past rival candidate.

3.  We don't know how the question of approval was framed exactly?  Does the wording naturally tend to favor the winner?

4.  The winner of this most recent election has been notable for enlisting his supporters in a continuing denigration of Hillary, as part of an intensely partisan platform that is constructed on what people dislike (Muslims, immigrants, LIBERALS, LGBTQ, etc.) more than what they hope for.  So she remains a pinata and a boogeyman, even though she is currently not politically active.  Compare this to Obama, or any other president in the past.  How often did Obama rant about locking up JOhn McCain or Mitt Romney or otherwise use him as a whipping boy?

5.  A large contingent of Millenials remain who dislike Clinton for what they see as shabby dealing toward Bernie, their chosen candidate.  She remains as a symbol for them of something they are mad at, just as she does for the Right.

“An increasingly diverse society no longer accepts the God-given right of white males from the right families to run things, and a society with many empowered, educated women is finally rejecting the droit de seigneur once granted to powerful men.

And nothing makes a man accustomed to privilege angrier than the prospect of losing some of that privilege, especially if it comes with the suggestion that people like him are subject to the same rules as the rest of us.”

Kavanaugh caught in another lie. He was trying to silence/influence classmates ahead of the Ramirez story (as early as July) when he told the Senate he didn’t know about those accusations until the story came out in the New Yorker:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna915566?__twitter_impression=true

Not only that, but in his testimony he complained that Ramirez was contacting old friends and he thought that was wrong.  And then it comes out that he did the same.

Quote
[Ludington] said that the altercation happened after a UB40 concert on Sept. 25, when he and a group of people went to Demery’s and were drinking pints. At one point, they were sitting near a man who, they thought, resembled Ali Campbell, the lead singer of UB40.

“We’re trying to figure out if it’s him,” he said.

When the man noticed Ludington, Kavanaugh and the others looking at him, he objected and told them to stop it, adding an expletive, Ludington said.

Kavanaugh cursed, he said, and “threw his beer at the guy.”

“The guy swung at Brett,” Ludington continued. At that point, Dudley “took his beer mug and smashed it into the head of the guy, who by now had Brett in an embrace. I then tried to pull Chris back, and a bunch of other guys tried to pull the other guy back. I don’t know what Brett was doing in the melee, but there was blood, there was glass, there was beer and there was some shouting, and the police showed up.”

Demery’s, which closed in 1994, was a well-known local bar that served big slices of pizza, and cheap beer, especially after 9 p.m. It drew a crowd that included “older Yalies and younger ones with good fake IDs,” according to thepolitic.org.

How perfectly Republican is it that Dudley was trotted out as one of Kavanaugh's character references after the last hearing...

Documenting/keeping track of all of Kavanaugh's lies is becoming a media typology all its own, but here is another good summary:

Kavanaugh was asked, under oath, if he’d ever gotten aggressive while drinking. His response was: “I think the answer to that is basically no.”

Apparently, throwing beer in another man's face while drinking and then being in a brawl, such that you got questioned for it by the police qualifies as "basically no."

Good to know, Judge Kavenaugh.

Kiid, like I said: he's a liar.

You probably mean he HAS at a point in time "lied"  Ok, rock on.

Last Thursday, to be exact.

Multiple times.

Kid only likes dishonest judges without morals or backbone. He prefers the rule of force to the rule of law. It’s not his politics, it’s his character. Kid is a through and through asshole which is why he makes only bad choices.

Red is concerned that 2 years after the election Hillary is 5% more popular than donald currently is. She only won the election by 3%. The erosion of support for don and all things GOP owes a lot to how GOP policies have stripped wages and other protections from American workers.

McConnell has been referred to Mueller. He seems likely to finish his current term in prison. Can turtles get re-elected from behind bars?

Bambi needs to stop assaulting his food processor after pouring a few drinks in it. He is seriously going to hurt himself.
