Well.........this is the plan of attack, right - not to actually show he assaulted Ms Ford.

If in defending himself against one allegation, Kavanaugh lied and misrepresented and blustered, showing that he isn't honest and doesn't have the right temperament, then that can be disqualifying on it own.

It seems pretty clear at this point that Kav drank a lot and could be belligerent when drunk.  That at least backs up Ford's story to a degree.  The Ramirez incident and the bar brawl also in general back up Ford's story.

The Yearbook paints a fairly ugly picture of a heavy drinking, horny jock.  And disrespectful to women.

While otherwise, Kav is a very political figure, tied in with Ken Starr and W Bush and disgraced Judge Kozinski.

Add all that together -- lies, a bit of a hothead, very partisan, and possibly involved in a pair of sexual assaults --  and he should be rejected (or withdraw) and a new nominee chosen.

Documenting/keeping track of all of Kavanaugh's lies is becoming a media typology all its own, but here is another good summary:

I know that it can be hard to keep track of all of Kavanaugh's disqualifying qualities, but I assure you they can all coexist without contradiction.

And just to make the point; Kavanaugh was criticized as a partisan operator in judge's clothes who is willing to lie for political gain from the start, but his defense against Ford is only the most visible confirmation.

Given the challenge of proof in the assault  it does make sense to point out Kavanaugh's lies under oath.   Lying under oath does seem like a seriously disqualifying habit in a prospective SCt justice.   Whatever your partisan stance,  the truth still matters in a democracy.   It's in everyone's interest to have a truthful person occupying a seat in our highest court,  wouldn't you agree?

Its as though Republicans have never heard of the phrase "the cover-up is worse than the crime."  I guess in this case it isn't, or at least the crime at present is only alleged.

But the position that going after wrongdoing (like, say, lying under oath) that was in defense of wrongdoing is somehow alien or contradictory is an absurd one for anyone to take.  Particularly absurd to take it in defense of one of those who went after Bill Clinton.

Law and Order 101

Zero evidence - thus go after the defendant's character.

Doesnt often work, especially when for the last 30 years the defendant has been as upstanding a citizen as you could imagine.

Decent drama, I guess.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices your reference to Kavanaugh as a defendant.

1) Lying to Senators is inappropriate behavior by a potential Supreme Court Justice.  You can't possibly raise an argument against this, but you think somehow the nonsensical post above gives you one?

2) By Law and Order are you referring to the TV show?  I haven't seen it.  If you are referring to how law enforcement does their job, "going after a defendant" without evidence is not a common practice that I would imagine is being taught in introductory classes.

3) A witness account is evidence.  Its why prosecutors call witnesses in trials.  We have the testimony of at least one witness, and will not know if there are others until after the FBI issues their report.

4) You have no idea how upstanding a citizen Kavanaugh has been in the last 30 years.  Certainly he and his Republican handlers have presented him that way.  But a month ago we all would have also thought he was a focused and studious high school student who greatly respected his female classmates, before people came forward to let us know otherwise.

5) The lectures on the rule of law from the same crowd that chanted "Lock her up" before Trump's rally last night ring hollow.

Issues of character, honesty, temperament and partisanship.

Just need two GOP senators to flake off.

Quote
In early 1995, however, Kavanaugh offered his boss, independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr, the legal rationale for expanding his investigation of the Arkansas financial dealings of President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary, to include the Foster death, according to a memo he wrote on March 24, 1995. Kavanaugh, then 30, argued that unsupported allegations that Foster may have been murdered gave Starr the right to probe the matter more deeply. Foster’s death had already been the focus of two investigations, both concluding that Foster committed suicide. “We are currently investigating Vincent Foster’s death to determine, among other things, whether he was murdered in violation of federal criminal law,” Kavanaugh wrote to Starr and six other officials in a memo offering legal justification for the probe. “It necessarily follows that we must have the authority to fully investigate Foster’s death.”

Fine.  Upstanding.  And one of the most dishonest partisan witch hunts in recent history.

Number of Dollars Trump is said to have fraudulently acquired by cheating on his taxes: 413 Million.

Number of people surprised that Trump is an (alleged) tax fraud: Zero.

Number of Congressional Republicans who would be surprised to hear that Trump is still committing tax fraud:  Zero.  Which is why they are shielding his tax returns from public view.

Hello everybody (oily and otherwise)

There probably isn't anything about Kavanaugh that I could say that others haven't said. I will say that if the Republicans do appoint him, well that's fine with me.

Not that I want him there but that I want the fucking Congress to do their fucking job and make laws that don't run afoul of the Constitution. A law of the land that says "A woman has the right to choose what to do with the fetus in her body up until the fetus decides it is time to leave it." PERIOD!

"No corporation or other business entity shall use domestic resources without full and fair compensation to ALL those who have been affected by said usage." You make acid rain? You pay for it! PERIOD.

Make laws. Make them Constitutional Amendments (yes, that is a tall hill to climb. You don't want to climb it, go do something else! We're trying to run a country into the 23rd century here.) and bypass the Supreme court altogether. Supreme court says "It's Unconstitutional!" say fine, then fix the law and make it Constitutional, or change the Constitution to make it reflective of the will of the people!

But that's just me saying Hello.

Brett K is the grown up version of Robert Chambers, the Preppy Murderer. He is the product of the worst eras in American History (the 1980s) "The 'ME' generation" writ LARGE! Complete with Alex Keaton wannabees. Reagan Republicans running rampantlessly! Guys like him have always made me want to puke.

Oh and let us not forget that after the appointment, we found out that Clancy Thomas was INDEED a porn hound, and yet he lied in his testimony that he was not at all familiar with porn (which was false on the face of it given that he was in legal circles as the porn industry was being transformed and scrutinized by politicians and the judiciary.

Nice seein you all.

I'm in a different head these days, and As far as I'm concerned, bygones be bygones.

Meanwhile, in Trumpland, we have another bit from the Liar in Chief to try to downplay his stupid remark to the reporter.

And the NYT found inappropriate dealings and likely fraud in Trump's handling of his father's estate.
