Do all Australian schools have metal detectors?

No. I believe no schools do.
But, 'no one' in the general public in Australia is allowed to carry guns.
So far...only the bad people carry illegal handguns and illegal assault rifles/shotguns etc...and have only been shooting each other.  [SW Sydney mostly]

Another gun amnesty recently...8000 guns were handed in, seems by the good people not wanting their families to be harmed at home...after a spate of such massacres nationally [mainly in rural areas].

Someone is gunned down in the street or in a café...the cops are quick to assure the public "it was a targeted attack".

How does a metal detector really help?

Someone armed walks through the metal detector.  Someone comes over to see what the beep is and gets shot to death.  Rampage begins.
Or if there is a security guard near the metal detector, he gets shot and killed first then the perp walks through.

Also, think how impractical it is for everyone going in (or in and out) to have to empty their pockets of keys and coins, and take out their mobile phone.  Not to mention various jewelry or clothes with metal such as belt buckles and certain shoes etc.  How many employees would be needed for such operations at large venues?

You just can't turn every bar and dance hall into airport security without large inconvenience needlessly.
Even if you managed such an improbable feat, you still have the problem I outlined above.  Plus then the next killer would just go to large outdoor gathering spots such as Times Square or free outdoor concerts or wherever hasn't been turned into a fortress.

Absolute security doesn't exist.
These mass shootings rarely or almost never happen in countries that restrict guns.  There was one incident about 15 years ago in Beijing where a soldier snapped, took his rifle and started sniping at people as he walked down a street.  When the armed police and military came out in force he ducked into some wooded area where he was shot to death.  Mostly you get someone with a knife, and that causes a lot less damage and is much easier to flee and to disarm.  The worst was one guy who stabbed to death over a dozen primary school students a few years ago.  But usually with a knife 2 or 3 victims is the maximum.

And so much for the myth that an armed good guy with a gun will prevent mass shootings.  In Cali, the first officer to respond went in and got shot up.  He's dead now.  The highway trooper (armed responder #2) could only pull the moribund officer's body out and wait for the SWAT team.  At the Parkland school, the armed officer didn't dare go in and waited for the police and SAT team.  In Pittsburgh, 4 officers got shot.  Most of these shooters have significant firepower, substantially more than the handgun most police/armed guards carry.  And they usually have the advantage of being suicidal.

Can't make this stuff up. Jason "Target Rich Environment" warns that Democrats an "insatiable.desire" to 9nvestivate Trump:

This is drawn from facts about the 2018 Georgia election.

Yes, the climate change panel will return in January - finally returning science to consideration of scientific issues.

By firing Sessions and trying to plug in a replacement,Trump is ignoring Constitution. He has no authority to replace AG.

So sad he has support for this. Once they are enabled to break the Constitution, this is where it can lead: https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/guides/zwmdfrd/revision/4

Do not "shut up" and "let him'lead'"!!!

Comments about personal petards and the hoisting on them seem appropriate here.

The Central American caravan [to be featured on my tv news tonite] is an invasion...just like Trump says.

An invasion just like in Europe until countries there built fences to stop people calling themselves refugees just walking into/thru countries ...and 'country shopping'.

The what? Oh yeah! The Caravan! The Invasion of the Brown Wave...

The one thing Trump didn’t say much about in ninety minutes.

He should have...his whole future depends on it.

Black, Brown, White, Brindle or any other colour, it matters not.
What matters is the integrity of the nation's borders.
"Cheap labour" is no excuse.

Utley,  it's reaching that point where Godwins Law seems binding.   Hundreds of protest rallies across the US,  at 5pm today, against Trump's latest DOJ machinations.  I had the luck to attend the one in South Dakota,  by the Black Hills,  where it was already down to about 20 F.  with a stiff breeze blowing across the downtown park.   On the Indivisible website,  it said 170 had promised to show.   There were about 25 of us.  Quite a few support honks from passing cars,  so there's hope for SD.

Democrats have an insatiable desire to investigate DT,  the same way that firemen have an insatiable desire to spray water on burning buildings.

http://dctribune.org/judge-orders-trump-to-reveal-secret-business-details-after-potus-scrambles-to-get-out-of-it/

Trump tried to claim that he would be adversely affected by the emoulluments lawsuit. The judge cited a Trump tweet from last year in denying the motion to quash the suit.

Quote
The judge in the emoluments clause case cited this tweet from @realDonaldTrump to reject Trump's argument that any lawsuit would impose undue burdens on the presidency.
In this tweet, Trump actually invited a lawsuit from one of his enemies! He's got time, it seems.David Fahrenthold added,

Quote
@realDonaldTrump
I hope John Brennan, the worst CIA Director in our country’s history, brings a lawsuit. It will then be very easy to get all of his records, texts, emails and documents to show not only the poor job he did, but how he was involved with the Mueller Rigged Witch Hunt. He won’t sue!
