12/21/2018

For the second time in a month gasoline was selling here for $1.95 a gallon.

USA Today reports that almost one in five gas stations in the country are charging less than $2 a gallon. As many as eight states could soon have an average price of under $2, the paper said, citing data from GasBuddy.

The national average for gasoline last week was under $2.40, according to the Department of Energy. In the Midwest and the Gulf Coast, it's barely above $2.

Remember when the gone-and-forgotten President Obama insisted that $2-a-gallon gas was a thing of the past. "We can't just drill our way to lower gas prices," was his constant refrain.

Or earlier this year when Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer blamed " the reckless decision to pull out of the Iran deal caused "soaring gas prices, something we know disproportionately hurts middle- and lower-income people."?

Hmm. Try to find either one of them today acknowledging we HAVE drilled and fracked  our way to energy independence and middle -to -low -income people are reaping huge benefits.
Gas prices were at 2.14 on average for 2016.
LOL!
That makes Obama and Schumer sound even dumber!

You can serve both Trump and America.

America must build the wall...it's the only way to get true border security.
Trump keeps saying it, but all the Leftists do is laugh and deny funding.
Leftists seem to love things the way they were...'sanctuary cities', 'illegal immigrants waltzing over the borders at will' [and working...Sheriff Joe seemed the only one able to catch the illegal workers with raids.]

Mattis resigns...just get someone else...plenty of fish in the sea.
US envoy to anti-IS coalition resigns...just get someone else...plenty of fish in the sea.

Taliban reportedly controls 80% of Afghanistan...waste of time risking the lives of US troops there now.
Another failed war...as it was always going to be...Rambo3 showed all.

Syria...waste of time and risked lives having US troops there anymore.
Trump is 100% correct to pull out US troops.

True border security is not provided by something that can be beaten by anyone with access to either an extension ladder and 30 feet of rope or a shovel. Or for drugs, a drone or a boat. It is a solution from centuries.ago. it is like trying to provide national defense by investing in catapults.

Arpiao was and is a grandstanding publicity whore. He.made sure cameras went for the ride along. That is all.

Spending for border security should be a smart use of funds: effective and commensurate with the risk posed by the problem. The wall is not because it is neither.

Except of course why they resigned is the issue. I was.against the Mattis appointment for philosophical reasons related to the civilian control of the military, but he understands the importance of alliances and the interconnectedness of actions. Trump does not.seem to understand either.

5. Not all that much risk. They were in non combat support roles. Our air strikes, directed by our on the ground troops coordinating with the groups doing the actual fighting was effective at defeating ISIS as a coordinated military presence.

There is a reason why our only ally that thinks our withdrawal is a good idea is Turkey, but all of our rivals and.enemies are happy.

Low fuel prices are fine for motorists but they result from global economic problems. The price of oil reflects that investors fear a long slump.  Also,  summer blend fuel is more expensive to make,  so production cost of gas always tends to drop as we move into the colder season.   Those two factors are driving the recent drop in pump price.

Energy independence and shale extraction  have been supported by every recent administration.

What's also saddening is to have popular public intellectuals like Jordan Peterson engage in the dog whistling.   He doesn't overtly deny the Holocaust but has said stuff in lectures (widely followed on YouTube)like Zyklon B was primarily used in work camps as a delousing treatment, most workers died from overwork and there wasn't enough nourishment because the Allies had blocked food supply lines,  etc.   IOW, he drops lots of breadcrumbs to lead listeners to think it wasn't that bad and few were deliberately killed.

It's mindbending that Peterson is a respected clinical psychologist and Jungian theorist,  and chooses to go down this road.

Prices drop at the pump when crude prices drop and supply is plentiful

LOL. Demand for gasoline distillates has been rising, diesel, jet fuel, and heating oil for the winter. All three come from refining gasoline which adds to the supply.

Except of course Obama, in lpaying to the leftists, burdened the industry with executive orders restricting  fracking on public lands. He wanted it both ways. When he left so did his restrictions.

You were giving figures on gasoline prices.  Summer blend is more expensive.  Whenever there is a drop going into the cold season, part of the drop is due to the lower refining costs of winter gas.  Also demand for gasoline drops, relative to the summer vacation season.

I have no idea what "gasoline distillates" are.  Diesel, kerosene and heating oil are not gasoline distillates, nor was I addressing them.  Did you mean petroleum distillates?  There are different market forces on those, than on gasoline, in terms of seasonal demand.

Obama supported fracking.  The restriction of fracking on public lands was not in opposition to fracking generally, and his administration saw great increases in fracking on private lands in such states as Oklahoma, North Dakota, et al.  The restrictions were actually seen as "toothless" by Green opponents of fracking.

Quote
The U.S. was pumping just 5.1 million barrels per day when Obama took office in January 2009, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Fast forward to April 2015 and the U.S. produced 8.9 million barrels per day. That's an incredible 74% increase. In fact, in 2015, the U.S. pumped the most oil in 43 years.
- CNN Business

Also...under Obama and the GOP-led Congress, the U.S. also removed the 40-year ban on crude oil exports, potentially allowing production to increase once prices rise.

So your negative picture of Obama regarding fracking is not congruent with the facts.

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Sunday that he would remove Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who issued a stinging rebuke of the president when he announced his resignation last week, from his post by Jan. 1, two months before he had planned to depart.

Mr. Trump, in a Twitter post, said that Patrick M. Shanahan, Mr. Mattis’s deputy, would serve as the acting defense secretary.

Aides said that the president was furious that Mr. Mattis’s resignation letter — in which he rebuked the president’s rejection of international allies and his failure to check authoritarian governments — had led to days of negative news coverage. Mr. Mattis resigned in large part over Mr. Trump’s hasty decision to withdraw American forces from Syria.

When Mr. Trump first announced that Mr. Mattis was leaving, effective Feb. 28, he praised the defense secretary on Twitter, saying he was retiring “with distinction.” One aide said that although Mr. Trump had already seen the resignation letter when he praised Mr. Mattis, the president did not understand just how forceful a rejection of his strategy Mr. Mattis had issued.

Vindictive, two-faced, stupid, and lacks reading skills.  The leading edge of American politics!
