The Australian national anthem, one of the great anthems

last stanza for brevity

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,
Tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde,

And that's it hanging on the shed.

All together now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Never been heard since the once-revered artist was tossed in prison in disgrace.

Isn't being tossed in prison in Australia superfluous?

They don't play this one of his on ANZAC Day anymore either;

Two Little Boys - Rolf Harris

………………………………
…………………………………

When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys

Long years had passed, war came so fast
Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
Wounded and dying lay.
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew

Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two.
Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

Do you think I would leave you dying
There's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying
Back to the ranks so blue
Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

LOL

These days they often don't sing this 2nd verse of the Seekers song 'I Am Australian';

I came upon the prison ship
Bowed down by iron chains
I fought the land, endured the lash
And waited for the rains
I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife
On a dry and barren run
A convict, then a free man
I became Australian

A response to the Gillette ad.

I don't think the author understands that he is illustrating the ad's points, rather than countering them.

They do.
They usually play the Eric Bogle version though;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUwDHNJlJ2I

eric bogle and the band played waltzing matilda   [with scrolling lyrics]

…………………
…………….….

So they collected the cripples, the wounded and
Maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The legless, the armless, the blind and insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla

And as our ship pulled into circular quay
I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
And they turned all their faces away

#####

The real world...cruel to the core.

And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
And the young people ask me, "what are they
Marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all.

#####

Veterans march because the People want them to march.
They march for "Lest We Forget".
They march to honour the fallen, and all who served and are serving today.
Some ancestors march in place of their deceased relatives...medals on right breast.
Some ancestors wearing medals march at the rear of the parades.

With terrorists now hacking us to death in the streets, and China blocking the South China Sea, etc...The ANZAC Day Dawn Services and Marches nationwide are like beacons of freedom. The crowds are increasing every year.

And the band still plays Waltzing Matilda...

If only each one of those many national flags represented a nuclear missile...and we had something substantial with which to defend ourselves.
Commandos in canoes probably won't be much good against China.

Is it every 2nd Leftist American woman or every 3rd who'll be running for President in 2020?

Saw a 'procession' of female Dem candidates on my tv news tonite.

News said "With nominating comes scrutiny"...one candidate was then seen apologising for anti-gay comments she made a decade ago.
Yes...as 'Anna Scott' said in the movie 'Notting Hill' …"Newspapers last forever".

I would've selected Kamala Harris as my choice for President out of all the ones I saw tonite...if I'd been the Dems backroom guy.

Elizabeth Warren - Senator from Massachusetts - invited Americans into her home on a live Instagram video to interact with voters. It was admittedly, a little cringeworthy.

She cracks open a beer, pats her husband on the backside and gives him a hug, then takes a swig of the beer.

#####

Oh dear.

Backroom boy bambu did not select her.

Under 2 billion for wall, additional personnel and facilities money at another 2 billion, no fucking with asylum laws, for 5 years of DACA and TPP protections, wrapped up by Jan 26.

At least there is an offer on the table, unless some of the Russian agents pretending to be republicans move the goal posts.

And assuming the Hostage-taker-in-Chief doesn't just flat change his mind again, as he did the last time he agreed to almost this exact deal, last year!
*IT

Which part, bullshit artist?

The part where he changed his mind last year was well documented and very public.

The offer on the table was just made publicly by the Hostage-Taker-in-Chief.

(JTA) — Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said she “must walk away” from the national Women’s March organization over the alleged failure of its leaders to condemn anti-Semitism.

You can't denounce Farrakhan?  He's your GOAT? WTF?

All politics is local.

Farrakhan has the juice of a 25 watt bulb these days. His influence peaked with Million Man March in 1995... but he is still strong locally and in pockets around the country especially in cities where black communities face economic and enforcement “challenges.”

Forcing black activists to publicly denounce the motherfucker is akin to saying, “well you for sure ain’t going to organize the folks in Clifton Terrace!” because in places where the citizens were caught between the police and the criminals without distinguishing who is who, the young men in the suits, ties and haircuts is what allowed ordinary people to get through the day to day.

That was twenty years ago, now there is one guy selling bean pies and the NOI newspaper at the corner of East Capitol and Benning NE and he’s been at it for FIVE years.

But as Farrakhan has done with every black activist since Jesse Jackson, he is making hay out of this attention.

Bullshit. Because the excuse you contrived us akin to Trump saying "both sides" were to blame in Charlottesville.

There is right and there is wrong. You can't be both.

From nearly twenty years ago...

https://sojo.net/magazine/may-june-2002/new-farrakhan

from earlier this year...

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/03/nation-of-islam/555332/

But let’s equate murder with some octogenarian spouting bullshit to a limited audience...

If Farrakhan artist wasn't black, you would not fefend him.

Bigot.

“Fefend him?”

I’m pretty sure I’m defending the activists who are required to repudiate a Depends wearing charlatan whose sphere of influence is practically non existent except in those areas of communities most bereft.

You can’t work to elevate people if you first insult their grandpa figure.

Wait a minute. Barton opined earlier that economic growth was akin to a “ cancerous growth”. So if it slows down why would that be bad?
As to Reich’s assessment if the economy he has it all wrong.
