Hmmm, Dr Romero and ACLU.

ACLU = American Civil Liberties Union.

The American Civil Liberties Union is a non-profit organization whose stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."

Questions I would ask Dr Romero and ACLU are:

1. "Do you think there should be any physical border at all between the US and Mexico, US and Canada?"

2. "Do you think anyone and everyone around the globe who wishes to seek asylum in the US should just be able to walk in, sail in, fly in over US borders and apply for said asylum once on US soil?

The questions I would ask you are:

1. Why the fuck do you think anybody cares what you think?

2. Given how expensive the proposed wall with Mexico is, how expensive do you think it would be to build one along the Canadian borders? (Plural borders)

3. How expensive do you think it would be to eliminate the physical borders that already exist along those borders? (Hint: It makes erecting additional ones look cheap.)

Assuming you are a Dr Romero and ACLU supporter...you've answered Question 1...'No'.

Care to have a go at Question 2?

The answer to your second question is, yes, that is what the law says.

You seek asylum from reality every time you post, Bambi. It’s lonely in that distopian fantasy you’re always conjuring. The rancid bad ideas and false notions you’ve festooned it with make your fake world repulsive.

Gov. Newsom Says California Will Sue Trump Admin Over National Emergency Declaration

POSTED 11:29 AM, FEBRUARY 15, 2019, BY LOS ANGELES TIMES, UPDATED AT 12:34PM, FEBRUARY 15, 2019

Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday that California will sue the Trump administration over its declaration of a national emergency on the southern border with Mexico, delivering on a promise state Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra made last week “to reject this foolish proposal in court the moment it touches the ground.”

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/feb/15/the-beginning-of-great-change-greta-thunberg-hails-school-climate-strikes?CMP=fb_gu

Change may just be coming.

The governments of the world cannot hold up against a strike by the children.

Australia was one of the first countries to mobilise. Last November, organisers estimate 15,000 students went on strike. Last Friday, students lobbied outside the offices of the opposition party. On 1 March, they will target the federal treasurer’s office. Two weeks later, they will join the global strike.

#####

Maybe the Federal Treasurer should tell them "everyone wants 100% renewable energy, but it's not possible right now".
Tell them they'll just have to wait a while...that the govt cannot yet run Australia on "windmills and solar panels" without going broke, and the electricity going off.
He could also tell them that Australia exports $60billion worth of coal to other countries who are building new coal-fired power stations.
Japan for example...to keep the country in business/lighting/heating etc is building many new coal-fired power stations using coal from Australia. Tried nuclear, didn't work out so well.

Treasurer could also tell them that the govt uses taxes/income from the $60billion to fund their 'student loans, schools/universities etc.

Was hearing something earlier this week about there being no evidence of collusion?

The answer to your second question is, yes, that is what the law says.

Thanks for that.

Question 3 is;

"When the asylum seekers arrive, possibly by the million, until their claims are processed what happens to them? Where and how do they live etc given that no identification/background checking would likely have been done on many of them...and processing could take years?"

If the ACLU, and the State of California, and hopefully others, cannot win straight out by declaring that the emergency does not exist, then in the least we can keep the wall tied up in court until we can elect a new President in 2020, then we can elect a new President who puts a halt to all of Trump's foolishness on the border issue.

NO WALL! We need teamwork with our neighbors, not walls. And we should all be free to travel, and to live wherever we want.

In a nutshell;

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/John_Howard

"It's about this nation saying to the world we are a generous open hearted people, taking more refugees on a per capita basis than any nation except Canada, we have a proud record of welcoming people from 140 different nations. But we will decide who comes to this country and the circumstances in which they come.

Which was fine, bambu -

until it got complicated.

It only got/gets complicated downunder when new 'generations' of idealistic Leftist youth 18+ and their mentors vote in Leftist federal govts [which is likely to happen again in May 2019]. "Racist and too harsh" they cried in 2007, then opened the floodgates again.
Good luck getting a budget surplus out of a downunder Leftist govt.

In America it's different...land borders, no offshore processing in detention centres, failed asylum seekers can access the courts, etc.
