We’re trying to keep out white ISIS, so extra scrutiny for Australians especially ones who get nutty about borders.

That's the majority of them.
That's why their processing of asylum-seekers is done in offshore centres on Nauru and Manus Is PNG.
Lessons were learnt previously, when processing was done onshore, where the asylum-seekers had access to the courts.

Australia [some 2018 Christmas gifts were still going to Austria by mistake]...drew a line in the sand, and said, para;

"Any asylum-seekers from now on who pay people smugglers and attempt to land in Australia by boat will never be resettled in Australia, never.
They will be detained on Manus Island and Nauru, where they will be processed by the UNHCR. Any asylum-seekers deemed to be genuine 'refugees' will be resettled in a 3rd country."
The boats stopped arriving.

US could do the same.
Haiti could do with the money.

Great recipe for a shithole country. Did you get that from your no 1 radio host?

What, having secure borders...ones with integrity...an orderly immigration system...where the rule of law prevails...is a shithole country?

You've been arguing against the rule of law for a couple years now.

https://gritpost.com/trump-administration-immigrants-bridge/

Detained families being held under bridges because the detention center is full.

And this is not a crisis

It's a crisis, Kiiid.

But the crisis is not the refugees and asylum seekers, it's the way our government is mishandling the situation.

A big wall isn't going to fix this.

Still.

An impenetrable wall will fix it.

An impenetrable brain seems to keep realism and facts out.

As you keep ignoring that these people did not all cross illegally, your conclusion is logical...

so long as ignoring facts is logical.

They crossed the border uninvited/unknown...so into detention they go...whether or not seeking asylum.
Simple scenario...'national security'/'border security'/'sovereign borders'/border integrity'...they could be anyone, terrorists for example.
No degree from anywhere needed for this one.
I'm saddened about how jealous you remain of people with degrees.

Don't be, because I am certainly not jealous of people with degrees.
I love people to have degrees, proper degrees mind you, not ones where someone else did the exams for them.
Not ones they "got out a corn flakes packet."

When looking for an eye surgeon I search for ones with as many relative degrees as possible...preferably with 'first class honours'.
Same as vets.
Same as any professionals....incl nurses, accountants, anyone interacting with me.

Hate speech makes democracy fragile: Wong

Australia's democracy has become more fragile because of the normalisation of hate speech and extremist views in parliament, senior Labor figure Penny Wong says.

Senator Wong will on Friday deliver a speech in honour of being named the McKinnon Political Leader of the Year for promoting a more tolerant and inclusive Australia.
"Racism is not only unethical, it is antithetical to the values which underpin democracy," she will say in Melbourne.

Politicians from all sides must stand together against ideologies of hate and prejudice, the senator will say.

"Our weight amongst nations is greatest if we can truly reflect who we are - an inclusive, independent, multicultural nation confident of our identity and of our place in the world."

She should explain that to her side, because those on her side have not always been 'angels'.

And in America, the speech against Trump has not always  been kind.

Bambi, when we are discussing "hate speech," we are not talking about invective that is aimed at an individual for that individual's stupidity, corruption, or evilness.

So, when we attack you for having no clue or Trump for his being corrupt, this is not "hate speech."

This is as opposed to when Donald J Trump talks about not wanting blacks handling his money or refers to countries as shithole countries based on their being filled with people of color.
