The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is burning, it likely will be a total loss.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-notre-dame-fire-paris-20190415-story.html

How was this allowed to happen? This should never have been allowed to happen.

It's pretty devastating, Tony.

But how would you have proposed preventing it? Tear out its innards and put pipes through with sprinklers? Replace all the wood inside with flame retardent furniture?

I am sure that the keepers of other great iconic structures around the globe are going to face scrutiny following this conflagration, but for all that I wish it were otherwise, I am not sure how they can both preserve these places as they are and protect them from fire.

I am crushed, I wept, this really is devastating.

The way that the fire could have been prevented would have been to have keepers protecting the building twenty four hours per day, arsonists can be stopped, and fires that are started can be put out.

Then too, are the things such as fire hoses, and stuff like that to put out fires. I understand that there are problems when it comes to putting fire sprinklers in a building which was completed in 1345.

There needs to be human protectors on watch at sites such as Notre Dame, twenty four hours per day, seven days per week.

And it is bad now that we have terrorists who would destroy Christian churches, and other meaningful sites. And now you need to keep moving vans and stuff away from the buildings because of truck bombs.

I do not know yet how this fire started, but I do know that many churches here in the USA have burned, and I am sure that many times these fires are the work of arsonists. There needs to be guards on duty protecting the beautiful old churches, etc.

Notre Dame should have had people protecting the church, there should have been people who their jobs were to protect the church.

Salute,

Tony V.

“It hurts to watch this,” said Pierre-Eric Trimovillas, 32. “The cathedral is the symbol, the heart of Paris.”

The crowd gasped and cried in horror as the spire fell, Mr. Trimovillas said, adding, “Paris is beheaded.”

NYTimes.com

Sad. So glad that I went there in 2014.

"As ye sow, so shall ye reap"

What, no one knitting and cheering as the head fell?

Revenge of the beheadeds...seems to me.

Seems to you, with you being one who has already apparently lost his head.

Now.....

should the asylum process be altered?

Maybe.

And if it is you need to be OK with this - given that the proper process was followed.

Asylum seeker process be altered?
Yes.
Should be;

"From this moment in time, anyone who enters USA without having applied for asylum first, will be transferred to an offshore detention centre where their application will be processed by the UNHCR...and if successful, they will be resettled in a third country, never in the USA."

See how many want to charge the borders and enter the country illegally then.

Will never happen of course, because the majority of Americans seem to love illegal immigrants and asylum seekers just being able to waltz over the borders and make themselves at home, without censure and checking.

Trump's sending asylum seekers to sanctuary cities makes perfect sense.
The sanctuary cities can give them sanctuary.
Where else would they be made more welcome?

Missing just a couple details, there, Bambi:

He wasn't planning on sending them - he was planning on dropping them off without any preparation or planning, leaving the social services to scramble on insufficient notice.

Oh, that booming economy! That brilliant tax plan!

And that plan to reduce the trade deficit? Masterful. China's at an all time high, too!

America is full?!

Tell that to the folks in the darker blue areas on this map:

Trump doesn't give a fuck about reducing racism, whether here or anywhere.

McDougall has been critical of Trump, but Politico noted that it is "not clear whether the White House was aware of those statements."

Anyone see the Fox Bernie Town Hall?

Sanders and Martha McCallum went at it pretty good.

What the fuck?

You seem surprised or upset about something.

You don't think Trump needed those statements to choose to block the reappointment, do you? All it took was "Obama-era" appointee and he was gone.

The key, which you have chosen to ignore, is that nobody is going to replace him. It is unimportant to "President" Trump.
