And maybe Detroit.  Forbes tends to see things through the macroeconomics lens, but microeconomics (like the small business loans Tony alluded to) might work better.  Detroit's urban farming movement is also a ray of light.  Loans to "green demolition" companies might help clear more land of dilapidated housing and open up useful tracts.

A few weeks into Trump's "Presidency" I posted here how important it is that we not let his behavior and attitude toward the office be normalized.  That for the good of the country's future we need to at every turn call out how crazy and unacceptable and unqualified Trump is.

This piece is absolutely right.  The past few weeks have shown how we, the media specifically, have failed spectacularly at this task:

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/4/16/1850699/-A-chilling-reality-media-s-not-equipped-to-deal-with-Trump-s-ramped-up-war-on-democracy

There is no telling how much damage this is doing.  Forget how much worse the next two years (or six) can get, Trump doing this and getting away with it makes it 100% more likely that we will face the possibility of another authoritarian President in the near future.  And what if he/she takes it to another level?  What kind of Democracy are we left with?

That’s among the reasons that justice demands he receives a very public evisceration, pillorying, and pelting. We’ll come as close as we can within our framework of laws and politics.

Trumpism at its very highest…

Michele Bachman:

He is highly biblical, and I would say to your listeners, we will in all likelihood never see a more godly, biblical president again in our lifetime. So we need to be not only praying for him, we need to support him, in my opinion, in every possible way that we can.

Trumpism is that you can’t just say something that is manifestly untrue…cheating on multiple wives, paying off porn stars to cover up the cheating, bragging about sexual assault, wishing your military can rough up women and children coming to the border for help, rarely even attending church services, are not the hallmarks of a godly person, can we agree on that?...your lie needs to be amplified to eleven.  He is the most godly President we will ever see!

The total shamelessness of the Trumpists clearly knows no bounds.

And there is something even more malevolent at work here.  It is true that she and his supporters will stay loyal to him because they will never see another President like him in their lifetimes.  But it is the racism/white nationalism that they know they will never again see supported so openly at the highest office that they are looking to support.

That in Bachman’s mind that can be equated to Godliness is so telling.

Not to mention his noting that his battle to avoid STDs was his personal Viet Nam.  Godly!!!

Bachman had to write that on April 1.

Correction:   Authored by Eric Boehlert, a prizewinning journalist who also writes for Salon and other websites.  The moniker for Shareblue that Ward mentions was given by a campaign consultant to Sanders, so perhaps not an objective POV there?  Here is more context, from the wiki on Shareblue....

Quote
Brock said that the main goal of the website was to get presidential candidate Hillary Clinton elected.[11] During the primaries, the website endorsed Hillary Clinton and was critical of Bernie Sanders, posting stories like "With Bernie Sanders As Their Nominee, Democrats Can Kiss The Presidency Goodbye" and "Why does Bernie Sanders keep denigrating Hillary’s supporters?" Tad Devine, a Sanders campaign consultant, called it “the pond scum of American politics.”[9] Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Clinton, viewed Shareblue more as a necessary voice in a world teeming with conservative radio, television and internet outlets that fire up the Republican base.[12]

After Clinton won the primary Shareblue focused its attention on Donald Trump "exposing what it considers to be news coverage stacked against" Clinton. The group's major message was "that a shameful false equivalence was causing the media to soft-pedal Mr. Trump's many transgressions and overplay the few it could find on Mrs. Clinton."[11]

Climate change activists at it again ...this time in London.
Blocking streets, painting large graffiti on buildings, etc.

If you asked them what percentage of the atmosphere is CO2  and what percentage of that is man-made...they probably wouldn't know.
The deputy Labor leader downunder rabbiting on about "climate change" was asked that question by no1 radio host the other day...she didn't have a clue.

Not worth much, unless you can point to something in the article that is untrue or misrepresented.

Good article - seems to present a cogent argument based on the facts.  I don't see Ward  discrediting any of the "hysterical fiction."  All I hear from him is the faux
logic of innuendo...

Author has written for a media outlet that was pro Clinton.
A Sanders supporter called said media outlet pond scum.
Therefore author is wrong on all his points, regarding general media coverage of Trump.

Worst syllogism ever.   A philosophy professor, or law professor, would give it an F.

Anywho.  Very disturbing and thought-provoking piece.

Why it's vitally important to thoroughly background check/assess/properly identify/fingerprint/facial scan ID etc all asylum seekers/immigrants/illegal immigrants, including all "Spanish-speaking" ones.

Mum gang-raped by thugs who torture and beat her as four-year-old son slept in car

Changing a flat tyre at the side of the road as her little boy slept in the car, Charise Thompson was abducted by thugs who tortured, beat and gang-raped her in an act of unimaginable brutality — even drilling into her ankles in an attempt to hang her upside down “like an animal”.

Left for dead in a ditch, the brave mum fought to survive, crawling 4kms to get back to four-year-old James.

Finally, after desperately crawling on her elbows for hours, dragging her broken legs and with devastating internal injuries, she found help. Mercifully her son was discovered unhurt and still sleeping in the back of the car in Texas, The Sun reports.

“They beat and tortured me with their fists, their boots and a tyre iron, tied me to the bumper of the truck and dragged me, then ran over me with the truck,” Charise, now 61, recalls.

“They tried to drill holes in my ankles and had a gambrel [a rod or hook used to suspend animal carcasses] they were apparently going to hang me on, like a slaughtered animal, but they couldn’t get the drill all the way through either ankle.

“They stabbed me with a knife, repeatedly raped me and used the tire iron, telling me that they were the last thing I would ever see.
“After the last time I was hit in the head with the tire iron, I was perfectly still and tried to not even breathe,” recalls the mum, who has since moved to Wyoming.

“I didn’t understand much Spanish but heard one of them say ‘ella esta muerta’, or ‘she’s dead’. They picked me up and threw me into a drainage ditch, like trash.
