Bernie  Sanders says we need  more regulations on existing charter schools and a moratorium on federal funding for new ones.

The proliferation of charter schools has disproportionately affected communities of color.

True ,but for the better not to the detriment of black kids.

What Bernie doesn’t get  was reflected in a in a poll released earlier this month by Democrats for Education Reform, 58% of black party primary voters expressed a favorable view of charter schools, while 31% opposed them. Among Hispanics, the breakdown was similar—52% to 30%.
But among white Democratic primary voters, only 26% supported charters, while 62% viewed them unfavorably. The same divide exists if the question substitutes vouchers for charter schools.

Consider the close Florida Governor’s race where democrat candidate, Andrew Gillum, campaigned on closing charters and ending a tax-credit program that allows underprivileged kids to attend private schools. He lost to republican Ron DeSantis, who supported school choice.

According to the  James Madison Institute, a state think tank, it was the backing of tens of thousands of black school-choice supporters that helped put Mr. DeSantis over the top.

Remember that  Obama’s education secretaries, Arne Duncan and John King, were vocal proponents of charter schools who now have been succeeded by an even stronger school-choice proponnent , Betsy DeVos.

Bernie Sanders was far from a darling of black voters in 2016.
His views on school choice won’t help him with blacks in 2020;

Bernie’s right, though.

What's fascinating is that you put that bolded statement in without a shred of evidence to support it, merely evidence to support that it is preferred by a couple of the major minority populations.

Got any on how well the charter schools are working?

An opinion that the IRS needs to turn over the tax returns unless Trump claims executive privilege.

And that won't hold up, either.

Interested to see how you can claim executive privilege for documents created when you were a private xitizen.

G’day Abbott! G’day Anning! Two feckless bums dumped in the dust. Two sad sacks who won’t be missed.

The young, and climate change brigade voted for a candidate other than former Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
Tony also didn't do himself any favours by phoning George Pell, a friend, after his conviction.

So certain were they that Labor was going to win, they voted for an Independent female candidate.
Labor lost, they voted an experienced member of the returned govt out of the seat...so now they have no one of any power representing them.  lol
'Be careful what you wish for' comes to mind.

Tucker Carlson: Immigrants Have ‘Plundered’ Our Wealth and Are Coming for More
‘The American piñata has been getting pummeled for decades and now it has finally come apart,’ Carlson said Tuesday night.

Heh. Do you think the article you posted supports Carlson's no doubt well-researched assertion?

First dem to express her stance on immigration.

Gillibrand Says She Would Not Detain Illegals at All — Just Release Them into the Community

https://www.lifezette.com/2019/05/gillibrand-says-she-would-not-detain-illegals-at-all-just-release-them-into-the-community/?utm_source=below-article-related

Brilliant! Liberal elitist run amok. Little chance of winning the nomination why not make a splash?

Nothing like a Laura Ingraham internet 'zine as a source for accurate information.  Particularly on Immigration!

Trash masquerading as news is a serious problem, though curiously, not for the people who complain the most about it.
Your citation was an accurate description of Gillibrand’s position.

No, trash poster.  luee's citation isn't accurate on her position on illegal immigrants (on any of them, including social security mentioned later), the question was re: families requesting asylum.  And the position she articulates was US policy before Trump.

Not bullshit.  REDSTATEWARD isn't capable of backing his statements with fact, and his motivation for the post is to poke eyes, and make snide comments about the horse race on the Democratic side.  But I can have a real convo about this if you wish:

Our findings show urban charter schools in the aggregate provide significantly higher levels of annual growth in both math and reading compared to their TPS peers. Specifically, students enrolled in urban charter schools experience 0.055 standard deviations (s.d.’s) greater growth in math and 0.039 s.d.’s greater growth in reading per year than their matched peers in TPS. These results translate to urban charter students receiving the equivalent of roughly 40 days of additional learning per year in math and 28 additional days of learning per year in reading.

https://urbancharters.stanford.edu/

And the students attending those charter schools in urban areas are predominantly African American.

Not all Charters are as successful, as with non-urban schools in states that don't properly regulate them, or for-profit schools. But there are enormously successful non-profit schools that are doing good work eliminating achievement gaps in cities with school systems that are unfortunately effectively segregated by race.

Not saying that Charters are a cure-all.  But a blanket ban on funding vs. figuring out what works and what doesn't is a bad idea.
